Job description

Role purpose

To generate and maintain support for Voice 21 by strengthening our marketing, communications, events and outreach activities.

As Communications & Engagement Coordinator, you will work within the External Relations team to help generate school and supporter interest through high-quality marketing, digital communications and events. You will be the first point of contact for new enquiries, building strong relationships from the outset and communicating in a personal and purposeful way.

You’ll be responsible for the day to day activity on our website and social media channels, regularly spotting and securing new opportunities beneficial to our mission, creating compelling content to improve our engagement with target audiences and overseeing digital analytics.

You’ll support Voice 21’s external-facing communications, provide end-to-end oversight of External Relations events and engage with a range of stakeholders - students, school leaders and sector influencers.

Key responsibilities

  • Marketing, business development and events

    • Be the first point of call for schools and supporters enquiring about our work

    • Create new and compelling content for marketing and awareness raising aims

    • Support the organisation of public-facing events

    • Spot new opportunities, events and relationships and flag to the wider team.

  • Digital engagement & communications

    • Create and maintain a strong social media and online presence for Voice 21 by:

      • Suggesting new ways to attract schools and supporters

      • Developing an optimal posting schedule, considering web traffic and customer engagement metrics

      • Reporting on online feedback and insights

      • Facilitating online conversations and responding to queries

      • Supporting team members to use social media in a cohesive and beneficial way

      • Designing posts to sustain readers’ curiosity and create buzz around events, activities and opportunities

      • Developing engaging text, image and video content for our website and social media platforms

      • Researching audience preferences and discovering current trends

      • Support the success of our monthly newsletter by writing articles and posts and commissioning content from across the organisation and externally where necessary.

      • Monitor education media for press coverage of oracy or related subjects, and spot and suggest additional press opportunities for Voice 21

      • Coordinate our [email protected] inbox, tracking email types, adding new contacts to our database (Salesforce) and responding in a timely and consistent manner.

  • Administrative support

    • Apply experience of CRM systems to help manage and update our database on a regular basis; spotting issues and reporting these in a timely manner

    • Ensuring the data we collect on external contacts is accurate and appropriate, updating and monitoring our form collection, database and mass mailout systems as required

    • Support Director of External Relations in coordinating our team’s work plan.

  • Be an invaluable part of the ER team, demonstrating our values of trust and integrity and contributing ideas, energy, proactivity & drive.

Essential knowledge and skills

  • Excellent verbal, written & interpersonal skills
  • Experience of managing social media platforms/creating multimedia content and/or experience of multi-channel marketing and/or experience of events and stakeholder management
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Knowledge about what it takes to deliver high-quality communications
  • Experience of using design software, ideally InDesign and Illustrator (desirable)
  • Experience of using a CRM, ideally Salesforce (desirable)
  • Previous work experience within education, a membership organisation or not for profit (desirable).

You’ll love this job if...

  • You are a confident, compelling and empathetic communicator, both in written and verbal contexts

  • You enjoy developing relationships, making new connections and building communities

  • You enjoy working across and with a wide range of digital communication tools and approaches

  • You are proactive in spotting new opportunities and prioritising forward-planning to enable the most successful outcomes

  • You are reflective and will constantly reevaluate how Voice 21 are communicating with our schools and how this can be improved

  • You want to look for ways to improve our work and take ownership and accountability for doing so

  • You enjoy working as part of a fast-paced, fast-growing team with big ambitions and are excited to use your initiative to help us achieve these.
