Mission

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Lebanon.

Job Purpose

Providing oversight for MAP’s Community and Challenge event department, event management of international events and management of the community & Events fundraising officer

Hours

Full time (35 hours)

SMT, All departments; Trustees; Volunteers; Interns

Key External relationships

Challenge event participants, community fundraisers, overseas challenge partners, event organisations, printers and creative agencies

Duties and key responsibilities

Oversight, Strategy & Planning

  • Lead the Community & Challenge Event team, providing exceptional management, oversight & reporting of International & UK Community & Challenge events
  • Develop and implement an effective Community & Challenge fundraising strategy which incorporates key fundraising campaigns throughout the year, in addition to growing the mixed portfolio of UK & International events

Stewardship

  • Develop strong relationships with community and challenge supporters; enabling life-long connections to MAP whilst maximising income opportunities
  • Oversee the delivery of MAP’s champion fundraisers programme

Management

  • Manage the community fundraising officer and help develop the role
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the systems and strategies in place in order to develop efficient high-quality administration of MAP’s events
  • Ensure the Community & Challenges officer regularly reviews the stewardship experience
  • Create a supportive and inspiring culture within your team and have a mentality to support both the wider fundraising team, and other MAP departments in London and overseas
  • Management of MAP overseas challenge events

Operational Planning

  • The post holder will be responsible for achieving short and long term financial & non-financial targets and ensuring places are filled on targeted challenge events
  • To monitor, review and evaluate performance against plan and report forecast financial and other results on to an agreed timetable
  • Any other duties as required commensurate with the post
  • Ensure MAP complies with all charity regulatory requirements, charity law, data protection, codes of practice and other relevant fundraising standards

Reporting

  • Provide regular written reports, KPIs, updated budgets and finances to the Director of Fundraising

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience of

  • Managing officer level or higher roles in fundraising (or equivalent)
  • Planning, managing and delivering multiple challenge and community fundraising events
  • Developing relationships with event participants, community supporters, and recruiting new contacts for events
  • Track record of growing income from challenge and community event fundraising activities
  • Developing fundraising strategies in line with organisational strategy and team KPIs

Skills and abilities

  • Able to communicate clearly, motivate, inspire and influence supporters, stakeholders and colleagues
  • Proactive and able to take initiative in solving problems and making decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience of forming and maintaining effective relationships
  • Excellent relationship management, project management and budget management
  • Excellent ability to multitask
  • Excellent written, verbal, proof reading and copy-editing skills
  • Team player. Someone who is open, able and willing to deliver beyond a personal brief
  • An ability to steward community & challenge relationships and work across teams/events to achieve the strategic objectives
  • An excellent ability to distil event feedback, results, information analysis and market intelligence into clear, usable and compelling written and oral reports
  • Strong IT skills particularly in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of the stewardship process for challenge and community fundraisers
  • Familiar with legal and regulatory issues relevant to fundraising, marketing and charitable giving

Education/training

  • No one specific qualification is required but evidence of recent continuing professional development in an area relevant to the post will be required
