Working as a key part of the team at Thrive in Birmingham, the Community Engagement Officer will increase participation and strengthen our referral pathways through productive relationships. Such that engagement with our services is representative of the diversity within our locality. The successful candidate will have strong communication and organisational skills. We’re looking for a relational operator who can confidently facilitate visitors and work independently with a range of external partners.

About the Role

Humanists International has another separate entity based in the US. This role will be a part of the UK operations team but will collaborate with the US finance team occasionally when it’s required, for example, during the audit period. Both UK and US finance teams are managed by the same Director of Finance and Operations who is based in London. 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can provide excellent finance and administrative support to the small, predominantly home-based team. We’re seeking someone who is personable, highly organised, has attention to detail and is keen to take initiative and learn new skills. Onboarding training will be provided, but we would like you to demonstrate transferable skills. 

You will work on a wide variety of tasks which will include bookkeeping and bank reconciliations, being the first point of contact for the organisation, as well as providing general administrative support to the team. You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively across a diverse international team.

This is a full-time or part-time with a minimum of 4 days/week (0.8 FTE), permanent position, which is predominantly home-based but does require the attendance of in-person events such as the General Assembly and Team Building. You will also be expected to attend a number of board-level meetings held on weekends to take meeting minutes - further details are listed in the Key Responsibilities section.

Key Responsibilities

• Taking charge of the day-to-day financial activities and office administration of the organisation.

• Ensuring high-accuracy bookkeeping and bank reconciliation are completed to deadlines. 

• Ensuring adequate financial documents are filed on Drive to comply with the audit requirements.

• Preparing invoices and receipts to stakeholders as required.

• Generating month-end Budget vs. Actual Report from accounting software on time, for the Director of Finance and Operations to review. 

• Preparing financial data for quarterly Finance Report in tables for the Director of Finance and Operations to conduct quarterly financial analysis.

• Assisting the Director of Finance and Operations with the preparation of financial data, tables and files for the annual budgeting and UK audit.

• Reviewing and processing expense claims. And ensuring the Expenses Policy is being followed. 

• Preparing and attaching expense receipts to the CEO’s monthly credit card statements.

• Being the first point of contact of the organisation. Managing office inbox, answering office calls and sorting out the letters.

• Attending online board meetings (four times a year on Saturdays) and investment committee meetings (twice a year on weekdays between 5-7pm) to take meeting minutes. Board meetings normally take 3 hours and investment committee meetings take 45 minutes. These meetings are usually planned 6-8 months in advance.  TOILs will be provided when the meeting is held outside your normal working hours.

• Assisting the CEO with board papers and circulating them to board members before board meetings.

• Arranging flights and accommodations for the CEO and board members to attend in-person meetings when required.

• Arranging meetings for the CEO when required.

• Assisting staff and board members with queries on finance or administrative matters.

• Any other appropriate duties.

Essential Skills

• Accounting, finance, or economics qualification.

• A minimum of two years’ experience in bookkeeping and administration roles. 

• Experience using financial software. e.g. Quickbooks, Xero, Sage or equivalent.

• Understanding of the chart of accounts structure, cash/accrual accounting basis.

• Understanding of the expense claim process.

• Experience preparing the budget. (Not necessarily the whole organisation’s budget, but specific section(s), for example, travel costs and fixed-costs related budget lines would be essential.)

• Excellent organisation, time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritise and plan a busy workload. 

• Self-motivated and able to meet all deadlines.

• Supportive, collaborative and able to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Abilities to work independently with initiative.

We also work in our communities with volunteers who provide vital support to the most vulnerable in an attempt to prevent homelessness. We are seeking an enthusiastic and confident communicator for the new role of Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager to increase awareness of our work and develop new funding streams from individual, community and corporate partnerships.

Project Officer 

(Midlands and East) 

£28,831 per annum (pro rata for part time hours)

Base: Home based within reasonable travel distance from Harlow. Flexibility to work from Sustrans offices in London.  

About the role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Sustrans Behaviour Change and Engagement Team as it looks to encourage those in Harlow and the surrounding area to walk, wheel, and cycle. 

As an Active Travel Project Officer in Harlow and Gilston Town (HGGT), you will assist in the delivery of the behaviour change programme to schools, workplaces and community groups. The project will encourage and enable the community to travel sustainably and actively, through various initiatives, events and competitions. 

Your role will include duties such as the creation of materials and communications to increase the visibility of your work, delivering activities and events with a variety of people, reporting and presenting to stakeholders, and analysing surveys and other monitoring data. 

You will build and manage internal and external relationships with key people such as local community leaders, schools, businesses, local authority officers, along with all Sustrans colleagues within the region. 

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans. 

About you 

You should have experience of planning and delivering projects, workshops or activities for a diverse audience. 

You will be experienced in developing relationships and working with a wide range of stakeholders, being able to build rapport and influence people.

We also ask that you have experience in planning effectively using multiple systems, including Microsoft packages, and processes to meet the deadlines of each project. 

You will be experienced in writing for different audiences and purposes such as reports, assemblies, promotional material, briefings etc. 

You will be skilled in being able to prioritise a complex workload.

Role purpose: 

To support the development of innovative teaching and learning resources underpinned by our Skills Framework, across our portfolio of qualifications and accredited awards. 

Main duties and responsibilities 

• To develop engaging and accessible learning resources using a range of different formats, which supports learners to develop essential skills through leadership opportunities.

• To build and deliver online learning and training for both learners and tutors.

• To use data and research available to generate ideas and concepts for new and existing programmes. 

• To support engagement with centres (customers) and learners to gather feedback and grow ideas to support programme development.

• To collaborate with suppliers such as graphic designers, when required, to develop high quality, visually appealing branded learning resources. 

• To support projects with third party suppliers or subject matter experts when required, to meet customer need.    

• To develop, enhance and sustain close working relationships with colleagues to support the programme development process. 

• To keep up to date with relevant insights and emerging trends to enhance the learning experiences we can provide. 

• To contribute to effective communication about our programmes, by working closely with the marketing and communications team and business development team to support messaging. 

• To be an active part of internal project teams when requested, to support the organisations goals. 

• To be an active member of the Innovation and Standards Directorate and to carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Innovation. 

Skills, experience and knowledge 

Required/essential: 

• Proven experience in developing high quality learning resources for young people and/or educators. 

• Knowledge and experience of developing skills through learning programmes. 

• The ability to problem solve and innovate new ideas. 

• A passion for designing effective learning experiences. 

• Project management. 

• Self-starter with the ability to be proactive and driven to make improvements.

• A proven and confident communicator with a high level of written English and excellent attention to detail. 

• Experience of supporting multiple projects and products to time and budget.

• Able to develop strong relationships with those around them.

• Able to complete tasks independently and / or as part of a team. 

• Competent with IT (including Microsoft Office). 

Desired: 

• Experience using design tools such as Canva. 

• Experience in managing third party suppliers on projects, such as graphic design or subject matter experts.
