The Wiener Holocaust Library is one of the world's leading and most extensive archives on the Holocaust, the Nazi era and genocide. The Library's unique collection of over one million items includes published and unpublished works, press cuttings, photographs and eyewitness testimony.
This year we celebrate our 90th birthday.
The Library has its origins in the work of Dr Alfred Wiener, who campaigned against Nazism during the 1920s and 30s and gathered evidence about antisemitism and the persecution of Jews in Germany.
We have a consistent track record of being able to generate the voluntary income needed on an annual basis in support of our core work, but we recognise that with additional resource we can achieve much more to both secure the long-term future of the Library and enhance our work.
This new role has been established to lead and implement the engagement strategy with both individual and organisational donors that builds a sustainable pipeline of philanthropic support to maintain and extend the work of the Wiener Holocaust Library and to secure its legacy for future generations in combating hate.
While the Library has a commendable track record for restricted funding, there is a strong need to increase unrestricted funding, which requires that we are effective in achieving greater diversity in our income streams and the donor constituency.
Our potential reach extends beyond the UK and our track record to date includes successfully engaging with U.S. funders, which is a foundation that can be built upon.
Do you have experience in a fundraising environment and would like to be involved in an exciting and ambitious campaign? If so, this is a fantastic opportunity to join our small and friendly Development team based in the centre of Oxford
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Development, this exciting role will ideally appeal to someone who may already have some experience of fundraising, who is passionate about higher education and wishes to advance their skills in a highly successful college development and alumni relations office. The post is varied but in general the appointee will assist the overall purpose of the office of fostering and deepening relationships between the Hall and its alumni and in securing financial support from those alumni. This role will focus on regular giving and wider fundraising support, whilst there will also be the opportunity to take the lead on some more general projects and responsibilities. The Development Office can be a busy and demanding environment at times as the team work to engage the College community to capitalise on our philanthropic potential and successfully complete the current HALLmarks campaign in line with our ten-year strategic plan.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) usually 09:00 to 17:00 (some flexibility is negotiable in regard to the start and finish time). The role is based in the centre of Oxford but we can offer the possibility of working one day per week at home if you wish so please get in touch to discuss.
You will have excellent organisation skills and be confident in your ability to work across a range of internal and external audiences. You will have excellent relationship building skills with a strong commitment to supporting the delivery of the highest level of donor engagement and care.
In return, you will benefit from working for a warm, supportive and inclusive organisation (part of a world-leading university) offering good development opportunities to broaden your skills plus a comprehensive benefits package as follows:
- A free three-course lunch.
- Excellent annual leave entitlement (up to 38 days per year) and additional days for long service.
- Subsidised bus pass loans, season ticket loans and cycle scheme loans.
- Access to the College's employee assistance programme (a 24-hour telephone and online advisory and counselling service).
- Annual flu vaccination.
- Discount in University shops, free entry to other colleges and libraries, discounted computer software from the University Computing Service, free access to the Botanical Gardens and Harcourt Arboretum and discounted membership of the University's gym and pool.
The appointee will be automatically enrolled into the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).
We are a very sociable team and arrange various staff events throughout the year including quizzes, a summer BBQ, a Christmas event and more.
Interested candidates should visit the College's website for further details and application instructions.
The College seeks to foster a collaborative and respectful work environment which promotes equality, diversity and inclusion together with a policy of assisting all our employees to achieve professional growth. We strive to appoint committed and compassionate colleagues to help ensure every student achieves their best.

About Us
Tearfund is a Christ-centred INGO, founded over fifty years ago. We have a big vision: to see all people freed from poverty, living transformed lives and reaching their God-given potential.
Our income last year was over £85m making us one of the UK’s largest humanitarian and development INGOs.
Our Approach
We have a highly distinctive and strategic approach; we do everything with and through the church. It is the church that is local, relational and long-term – present before, during and after a crisis hits. It is the church that was called by God to build his Kingdom. So it is the church that can truly bring community transformation.
And in these volatile times, with shifting patterns in funding, and in the very challenging contexts in which we work, we see a moment of great opportunity for the church.
Our role is to help the church identify and realise this opportunity. We have set ourselves the goal of enabling 250,000 churches in the countries we operate to become the transformation centres for their communities that they are called to be. The Fundraising and Engagement team will make this possible by growing our global community of people who want to enter into a whole-life response to poverty with help from Tearfund.
Tearfund’s vision and ambitious strategy has seen us embark on a process of transformation, of focusing and simplifying our structures, operating model and messaging.
Role and Person Overview
We are seeking a creative and bold Christ-centred leader who can take this work forward, building on this season of change, to guide and inspire the 150-strong fundraising and engagement team. You will bring a deep knowledge and expertise in fundraising, marketing and communications allied to the spiritual maturity that ensures prayer and reliance on God are always at the heart of how we work. And you will have an empowering approach to leadership that will enable agility, creativity and impact in all we do.
If this vision inspires you, if this description of what we are seeking resonates, then please consider applying. We look forward to hearing from you and mutually discerning whether you are called to serve in this key leadership role.
For more details including how to apply please see the job pack. Closing date 16th April.
We are looking for an experienced fundraiser, to lead on fundraising in the Department of Physics, as part of the friendly team working across the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences (MPLS) Division.
The Department of Physics is one of the top five departments in the world. Our academics observe the wonders of the Universe from the very big to the very small: from seeking planets with the potential for life outside the solar system, to undertaking some of the most delicate experiments in quantum physics. Physics has applications in so many fields, including biology and nanotechnology, to find new ways to treat cancer; the development of new materials to generate green energy; and the understanding of climate science, with its impact on the Earth. The Physics Department is active in developing these applications in part through a strong innovation culture that has created nine new companies since 2018 and with six more in the pipeline for 2024. The Department has a deeply embedded ED&I culture.
About the role:
You will be raising money to support research; to enable students from around the world and from every background to come and study at Oxford; and to help promote the public understanding of Physics. You will work closely with the Head of Physics, as well as some of the most inspiring scientists in the world, and will forge relationships with existing and new donors to the department. While an interest in science is essential, you do not need to be a Physics graduate, just an enthusiast for knowledge.
About you:
You are an experienced development professional with a strong track record of securing major gifts, a confident approach and the ability to think creatively. You will lead on major gift fundraising (£100k-£1m+) working with a range of donors (corporates, trusts and individuals). The department has a well-established alumni programme and a very active and supportive development board that you will work closely with.
What We Offer:
As an employer, we value the wellbeing and development of all our employees. We offer a comprehensive range of benefits, including:
- 38 days annual leave (including public holidays)
