Job description

Migrateful runs cookery classes led by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants struggling to integrate and access employment. Our cookery classes provide ideal conditions not just for learning English and building confidence, but also for promoting contact and cultural exchange with the wider community.

Since its establishment in 2017, Migrateful has made a profound impact on the lives of 92 cookery class teachers. Together, they have conducted over 3500 classes, sharing the rich tapestry of their cultures and cuisines with over 40,000 participants. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Migrateful Cookery School and our pop-up venues are pivotal to our operations, providing essential spaces for our Cookery Class Teachers to deliver their classes and for our guests to enjoy the  experience. We are seeking a proactive, individual with previous experience in a similar role to take ownership of the upkeep and day to day running of the Migrateful Cookery School, and to ensure our pop-up venues are fully kitted out to support the smooth running of or our classes.

Crucial to this role is ensuring that Health and Safety standards are exceeded in every aspect of the Cookery School and being responsible for educating users on industry standards. You will maintain an appealing environment where guests feel welcome and comfortable and continuously aim to improve systems and processes so that Cookery Class teacher, Migrateful Staff, Faciiitators and Volunteers can seamlessly navigate the space.

Essential

  • 4+ years previous experience in a similar role, particularly in a kitchen or food-related environment.
  • Relevant and up-to-date Food Safety, Health and Safety, Allergens, Food Handling, Alcohol Licensing knowledge / qualifications or a willingness to to update these.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic work environment.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Solution driven individual who comes up with new ideas and sees them through to completion.
  • Comfortable with performing physical tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people including marginalised groups.
  • Positive attitude and friendly demeanour are a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

General

  • Refine the system for keeping track of levels of stock (beverages, cleaning supplies, dry goods etc.) and  replenishing them when necessary.
  • Implement a cookery school procurement / supplier policy in line with our operational and financial needs.
  • Maintain awareness of all activities taking place at the Cookery School across a week (including weekends) and ensuring all equipment and ingredients required for these classes/activites are made available. 
  • Place timely food orders and coordinate accurate and punctual food deliveries.
  • Store ordered food items in accordance with Food Safety guidelines.
  •  Organise and maintain storage cupboards for kitchen supplies, equipment, allergens, dry goods, beverages etc,.
  • Ensure all relevant signage is up to date, uniform, and properly visible.
  • Review and update documentation related to the Cookery School.
  • Maintain checklists  and perform daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring and inspections in compliance with Health & Safety guidelines.
  • Establish a system for periodic inspection and upkeep of cookery kits, considering the ongoing class and demo schedule..
  • Monitor feedback and implement the necessary operational improvements at the school.
  • Act as the point of contact for matters related to the Cookery School. (Occasionally these queries may be out of hours but can be handled telephonically.)
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Appropriately manage a small budget and properly track all receipts and purchases.

The above set of resposibilites is not exhaustive and, within reason, you may be asked to undertake tasks outside of what is listed to meet the Charity's goals.
