Refugee Biriyani and Bananas (RBB) is a small grassroots organisation that provides humanitarian aid to displaced communities in Greece and worldwide. We are looking for someone with the skills and determination to help grow our charity over the coming years through effective fundraising across various revenue streams.
We are looking to grow from a small to medium-sized charity over the coming years and to scale the humanitarian aid we can provide across multiple locations. RBB is led by founder and CEO Ruhi Akhtar, 5 engaged Trustees, and a small team of staff and volunteers running our programmes.
To achieve this, we are opening this new role in RBB, looking for an experienced, creative and driven Fundraising Manager with a proven track record of income generation for small charities. The individual will lead on all aspects of our revenue growth with a focus on building a pipeline of opportunities and fundraising capacity across the organisation. We expect there to be a focus across all revenue streams including, but not limited to, Trusts and Foundations, Crowdfunding and Individual Donations.
Role Summary
The person in this role will work closely with the CEO to improve and execute on RBB’s new Fundraising Strategy with the aim to generate more income for our objectives. We expect the incoming Fundraising Manager to continue work on improving and defining our strategy and to execute upon it.
To date, RBB’s CEO has split her time across fundraising and project implementation. This role will provide additional capacity to focus on the overall development of the charity, as well as providing specialist expertise. As such, the ideal candidate will be self-motivated and proactive in identifying the key priorities of work to be done and to take a lead.
RBB has a strong track record with small grants and public crowdfunding. Our ideal Fundraising Manager has experience across both these areas and can manage these strands. Alongside these, we have further ambitions to grow our individual donations – including growing recurring donations – as well as corporate in-kind and financial donations.
We are also excited to explore innovative and alternative fundraising streams. These might include influencer marketing, ad campaigns, leveraging student networks or working in partnership with other charities to launch common crowdfunders or develop collaborative bids to foundations.
This is the second full-time role taken on by the charity. As such, the selected individual will become a core part of our small but ambitious charity. The right candidate will demonstrate a passion for helping charities grow in size and impact, and ideally have experience in the refugee and migrant sectors. The Fundraising Manager will be expected to represent the charity publicly to donors and the wider third sector.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of charitable/business development more generally, including Impact Measurement, Communications, Strategy and Project Management.
This role is remote. However, we expect the selected candidate to visit the charity’s work in the field – most likely in Greece – during the first few months of work, and work alongside staff and volunteers to better understand the situation on the ground. We believe this is important to fully understand and represent the charity. All travel costs will be covered by the charity.
Hiring a Fundraising Manager is an incredibly exciting step for us as a charity. For the right candidate this should also be an incredibly exciting opportunity to be part of the early-stage growth of an impactful and grassroots charity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute an income generation strategy that includes Trusts & Foundations, Crowdfunding, Individual Donations and Corporate Donations
- Explore and develop innovative or alternative funding streams
- Representing RBB, raising our profile and acting as a spokesperson
- Mobilise and manage occasional fundraising interns, volunteers and ambassadors
- Identify and submit small, medium to large-sized grants
- Maintain relationships and support with reporting to funders and donors
- Prepare and manage crowdfunding appeals for the charity
- Build our recurring donor base
- Support with wider charitable governance, reporting and administration as required
- Support with digital communications related to fundraising
- Ensure our fundraising efforts remain ethical and reflect the charity’s values
Person Specification
Essential
- Team working skills
- Ability to manage workload remotely and independently
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experienced fundraiser with track record of generating income for charities
- Expertise across a range of income streams
- Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences
Desirable
- Insight and experience in refugee work
- Experience of charity governance or committee work
- Proficiency in other languages
Our Offer
- You will be joining a team who put people first and will make you feel valued, help you to learn, and support you to thrive in your role and within the charity.
- Remote working
- 3% matched pension contribution.
- 25 days holiday per annum plus bank/public holidays
Special Conditions
The post is subject to a satisfactory criminal records disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and two references. Only those with the legal right to work in the UK will be considered for this opportunity.
Please note that this role is subject to a 6-month probationary period, during which time, the employee has the right to terminate the contract with 1-week notice, and the employer with 2 weeks notice.
Application Process
Please submit a CV and Cover Letter. Deadline for applications is 11th April however interviews may be held on a rolling basis and the position may be closed if a suitable applicant is found. A feasible start date will be discussed with the chosen applicant, however we are looking for this person to join our team as soon as possible.
We welcome applications from anyone with the required skills and experience: whatever their background. We actively encourage applications from those whose identities reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and whose identities are traditionally underrepresented in the charity / NGO sector. Our work is needed now more than ever before. This is why we have embarked on an exciting new strategy to make tackling low numeracy an urgent, national issue. However, we will only achieve significant and lasting change by engaging other organisations to support and fund our work.
We work with a wide range of partners: from corporate supporters and charitable trusts and foundations to employers, such as the NHS, unions, charities and the government. All of this is supported by a fantastic staff team, a highly active Board of Trustees and the National Numeracy Leadership Council.
We have an exciting new role for a skilled partnerships fundraiser to join our supportive team. You will spot and develop opportunities to establish new partnerships, as well as manage and help develop our group of amazing partners.
This role would suit a fundraising or partnerships executive, or equivalent, looking to step up, or it could be a great opportunity for someone looking for a new challenge and keen to take the lead on an increasing number of innovative, high-profile national partnerships.
You’ll need to communicate the vital importance of our goals in a way that persuades organisations to work with and, crucially, to fund our work. New business development and ongoing relationship management are crucial as we seek to establish long-term partners and sustainable income streams for the organisation. As Partnerships Manager, you will play an important role in realising our vision.
We are looking for someone who is flexible, a self-starter and able to use their own initiative to generate ideas as well as leads. It’s not imperative that you come from the charity sector as long as you can show us that you have relevant transferable skills and an understanding of what it takes to be successful in this role. We welcome applications from people who may have struggled with maths and numbers and have a personal understanding of the experiences of our beneficiaries.
National Numeracy is based near Brighton but with significant home working potential. The expectation is that you will be in the office occasionally when the work requires it, but we offer significant flexibility opportunities. The role may include regular travel to London and beyond.
We welcome applications from candidates looking to work either four or five days per week.
Applications without a cover letter detailing why you want to work for National Numeracy and detailing the ways in which you are a good fit for the role will not be accepted.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

SINCE 9/11 are seeking a dynamic and driven leader to manage the charity through its next phase of development.
The Charity Director will be responsible for managing the charity on a day to day basis throughout its next phase of development: developing and implementing the strategy for the organisation, building its capability to deliver this strategy through fundraising activities and putting in place a small team; driving awareness of the SINCE 9/11 Education Programme among key audiences and overseeing the financial administration of the charity, in line with the goals set out by the charity trustees.
CHARITY DIRECTOR ROLE OVERVIEW
This is an important and exciting time for the charity. More than 20 years after the horrific events of 9/11, with our acclaimed SINCE 9/11 education programmes for schools (developed by the world no.1 UCL Institute of Education) and our strategy and vision for the future both now in place, we want to drive the charity even further forward.
Our work remains as important as ever, teaching young people across the UK – who weren’t even born in September 2001 – about the events, causes and consequences of 9/11 and subsequent terrorist atrocities.
In a world where extremism and terrorism pose a huge risk, both to life and to the pluralist ideals of democratic societies, SINCE 9/11 seeks to lead the way in educating young people and steering society towards a more peaceful and tolerant future. In order to do so, we are now seeking a talented, driven and engaging leader who can take our charity to the next level. We believe that we have a high-quality programme to take into schools and other settings working with young people; our challenge now is to ensure that our programme reaches as many schools as possible.
We therefore need a leader who is confident and creative in building relationships with schools, academy trusts, local authorities, subject associations and teaching unions; someone who is familiar with the national education environment. Supported by a high-profile and committed board, our new director will be tasked with putting all of their energy into building those relationships and ensuring that we have a step change in the number of young people accessing our programme.
We believe that doing so will bring us long term financial sustainability and thus the ability to grow and develop our programmes further. In the tough operating environment, with schools currently facing many challenges of their own, we know this will be no easy task. The Board will be ready and willing to support you in any way that we can, as we recognise that appointing a dynamic, committed director is crucial to a continuing successful future for SINCE 9/11.

Job Title: Programmes Officer – based in Liberia & Sierra Leone
Reporting to: Head of Programmes – Sierra Leone & Liberia
Contract Type: Full time (37.5 hours per week)
Principal Location: Monrovia, Liberia with frequent travel across Sierra Leone
Updated: Febuary 2024
Our Organisation:
Street Child believes that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn. Our projects focus on a combination of education, child protection and livelihood support to address the social, economic and structural issues that underpin today’s education crisis. We partner with local organisations and communities to deliver our locally rooted programmes, using evidence to drive learning and the refinement and scale up of programmes to create maximum impact for the most children at the lowest cost. We pride ourselves on being willing to go to the world’s toughest places where others won’t, including remote, hard-to-reach areas and fragile, disaster-affected states across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Since 2008 we have helped over 1,000,000 children to go to school and learn.

This role will cut across Street Child’s programming in the region, including a specific focus on the $12.8m Education for Every Child Today (EFECT) Project which aims to enrol 96,000 out of school children in school across West Africa over a 4-year period.

Based in Monrovia, whilst serving a regional brief, the role-holder will be expected to be especially involved in supporting the programmes, and wider life, of Street Child of Liberia. This aspect of the role in particular demands a confident, ‘self-sufficient’ and motivated personality – who is excited by the opportunity and attendant career potential, as opposed to being overawed by the inevitable, multi-dimensional challenges.

- Supporting income-generation opportunities - potentially including supporting donor visits, in-country donor engagement and broad-based support to the group’s global programme-funding efforts for both Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Programme & MEAL Management – 35%
- Work in collaboration with national partner and cross-country implementation teams across Liberia and Sierra Leone to ensure quality and timely implementation of project activities.
- Work alongside social, enterprise and education teams across both countries to support a joined-up approach to project implementation and MEAL, ensuring relevant data are collected with due care and utilised for project planning, reporting and learning.
- Provide strong support to EFECT programme staff and partners in Liberia & Sierra Leone in programme and MEAL department.
- Alongside colleagues provide training, guidance and advice to partner delivery staff to ensure effective and accurate use of programme documents and tools.
- In liaison with Safeguarding Focal Points monitor safeguarding policies ensuring adequate implementation of policies and procedures, and support to close feedback loops with partners & project participants.
- Provide capacity strengthening to Street Child Colleagues where possible.

- Support the country teams in compiling requisitions in line with programme forecasts and budgets.
- Support on the collation of financial reporting requirements for low-mid value donors.

- A strong commitment to Street Childs vision, mission and values.
- Adhere to all Street Child’s policies and procedures.
- Represent Street Child appropriately both internally and externally.
- Carry out all reasonable requests that are within the broad remit of the role.
