Job description

Job Title: Fundraising Manager

Team: Fundraising

Location: London, UK or New York, NY

Closing Date: June 29, 2020 – Note that applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so early applications are encouraged.

Background/NRGI Summary:  For the one billion impoverished people living in resource-rich countries, the oil, gas and mining sectors have failed to deliver on the promise of better quality of life. Massive corruption, the climate crisis, and now the coronavirus pandemic threaten to entrench these deep inequalities. The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI)’s works to secure a future where countries rich in oil, gas and minerals achieve sustainable, inclusive development. With the launch of our new 2020-2025 Strategy, our staff of country and issue experts, lawyers, economists and governance specialists will leverage our 15+ years of experience to lift countries out of poverty by contributing evidence-based knowledge, building capacities and alliances, and seizing reform opportunities during moments of political openness.

NRGI’s international staff of more than 90 work in over 15 countries around the world. With an annual budget of roughly $15 million, NRGI benefits from the support of major foundations and governmental funders — including the Open Society Foundations, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Ford Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Luminate, Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, Department for International Development (DFID), and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), among others. To preserve its independence, NRGI does not accept funding from oil, gas or mining companies.

Job Overview: NRGI seeks an experienced institutional fundraiser responsible for a portfolio consisting of both foundation supporters and a subset of government funders.  S/he will lead on the development of approaches to these funders, and on proposal conceptualization and writing to ensure that NRGI can capitalize on the fundraising opportunities presented by our new global strategy. In addition, s/he will help us to identify new prospects, steward our existing donor relationships through report writing and relationship building, and develop department-wide record-keeping and tracking systems to ensure that we meet funder accountability requirements effectively. The ideal candidate will be committed to NRGI’s mission and vision.  A proven track record raising six to seven-figure gifts from institutional funders for international advocacy organizations is highly desirable. Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, s/he will have a strong hands-on orientation. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to build pipelines and strengthen donor relationships that will ensure NRGI’s long-term sustainability.

Lead the team in writing donor reports on time and to a high standard; drawing on the MEL and sub-grant management systems to source relevant and accurate data

Develop and maintain a tracking system to ensure timely submission of proposals, reports and acknowledgements
