The ABC Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills is designed for learners who:
- wish to acquire counselling skills for use in other work and who do not intend to become a professional counsellor, e.g. nurses, social workers and teachers. The course provides a valuable introduction to communication skills that are transferable into a range of career and educational opportunities.
-wish to progress into training to become a qualified professional counsellor
The level 3 Diploma in Counselling skills is a good course to help develop your understanding of counselling both theory and practice.
This ABC Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills QCF qualification enables you to work towards becoming a reflective practitioner of counseling.
The course philosophy is based on helping each student to build on their existing knowledge and a key part of this is recognising and valuing difference and diversity within the student and teaching body. It also provides knowledge and understanding of the three main core theories and theorists that underpin counseling and addresses the nature of psychological problems and how they may be approached.
The aim is to build a learning environment where students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning within a climate that is both supportive and challenging. Prospective learners should be aware that the course involves experiential learning self-awareness exercises, which will be demanding of the self in interaction with others. There are no other specific admission requirements other than an ability to demonstrate personal qualities indicating genuineness, respect and understanding towards others, a willingness to change and develop and to participate actively in learning. Self-assessment and collaborative working are key features of this course.
Course Attendance
Duration: 24 weeks
Monday - 10.00am to 4.00 pm

ü Enhance and improve your verbal communication skills, specifically empathy, the ability to listen and respect silence
ü Enhance and improve your written communication skills
ü Gain a basic understanding of what counselling is about and enable you to compare and contrast counselling with other forms of helping activities
ü Build upon your understanding of what counselling training entails, allowing you to make a more informed choice as to your suitability to undertake vocational counselling training as opposed to other types of training
ü Undertake experiential learning processes that will include a high element of personal growth work, developing further self-confidence and self-esteem.
ü Be prepared to progress onto our Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
You will not be required to complete a placement but you will have to opportunity to practice your counseling skills in triad’s and observed role play sessions
There are various assessment methods on this course; You will be required to complete practical observation and written assignments. You will be asked to write a weekly journal recording your personal development. In addition to this journal you will write assignments, participate in discussions, assessed role play activities and reflective reports.
Assessment will be continual assessment ensures that your personal tutor can consistently monitor your progress and provide you with assistance throughout the duration of the course.
