About the course:
This two-day course will introduce inclusivity in humanitarian action and will provide the knowledge and tools to help mainstream gender, age and disability into interventions so that organisations and individuals can understand the reality of meeting minimum standards of inclusion.
Beginning with an assessment of factors that contribute to exclusion in relief work, participants are introduced to the Core Humanitarian Standards and Minimum Standards for Age and Disability Inclusion in Humanitarian Action and explore how these can and should be applied in humanitarian responses. Participants will look both at factors that lead to exclusion in programming and how inclusion can be incorporated into project design and implementation. Day two looks at data collection methods designed to sample sex, age, and disability disaggregated data and how this data can lead to more inclusive disaster responses. We conclude by exploring the need for advocacy on an organisational and programmatic level and look at how to achieve effective mainstreaming communications. Participants on this course will gain an understanding of sector-specific inclusivity issues and is ideal for staff interested in promoting GAD awareness in their programming, however, no prior experience working with inclusivity is necessary.
