Overview

What does good volunteer management look like and how do you put this into practice? Good practice in volunteer management is key to unlocking the potential of volunteering in your organisation. Based on NCVO’s UK wide quality standard, Investing in Volunteers, this course provides an introduction to the key principles of good practice in volunteer management and how to apply them to your organisation.

Outcomes

By the end of the day you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate key principles in managing, supporting and motivating volunteers
  • Understand the legal status of workers, volunteers and voluntary workers
  • Understand volunteer motivations and how to motivate your volunteers
  • Deal with typical situations that arise and how to resolve them
  • Identify skills and competencies and how to develop yourself further
  • Know where to find resources and practical support

Who runs it?

Jarina Choudhury is NCVO’s volunteering development consultancy officer. She has hands-on experience of managing volunteers from diverse backgrounds in a pan-London Big Lottery funded programme. She leads NCVO’s volunteer management training programme and delivers consultancy. She has trained voluntary and corporate sector organisations to develop and improve their approach to volunteering.
