Overview

Water and Sanitation and Health (WASH) are vital in sustainable development and communities that experience Water and Sanitation insecurity are mostly found on the periphery of development. Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) is a course that provides non WASH professionals who find themselves working in WASH sector, technical expertise, techniques and methods that will lead to community management of water and sanitation projects.

The course equips professionals with technical skills in developing and enhancing facilitation and communication skills by providing methods that lead to community management of water and sanitation facilities.

Cost

The individual cost for the training workshop is USD 999 for individual participants and USD 800 for groups above 10 participants exclusive of 16% VAT. This covers the training fee, resource materials, and conference package. Participants will be responsible for their own travel expenses and arrangements, such as airport transfers (and visa application, where necessary), food and accommodation, health/accident insurance, and other personal expenses.

Intended Attendees

The target groups are humanitarian and development management practitioners, non-governmental workers and government staff.

Aim

This course aims to increase WASH field trainers/officers understanding of critical WASH concept and strengthen participants’ facilitation skills and competency in participatory community-based training on PHAST.

Objectives

At the end of this training you will be able to:

  • Understand the broader area of hygiene promotion and sanitation program;
  • Principles and methods of facilitating participatory community activities;
  • Learning community problems through a new process, co-facilitate and make the concept relevant to the local communities;
  • Receiving feedback on facilitation and reviewing the materials and the methodological approach of the PHAST training.

Post-training mentorship

All graduates of SDS are provided with dedicated coaches to accompany them after completion of the training including receiving recent and relevant journals, research and benchmarking practices on topical issues in respective disciplines.

This course has beginners and advanced modules and SDS will advise individuals appropriately after reviewing their applications.
