Overview

Are you interested in:

  • Learning about social care, disability rights, or direct payments?
  • Working as a support broker?
  • Working with disabled people?
  • Gaining important employability skills?

Whether you are looking for work or hoping to understand your social care better, this course will get you informed.

Not only do we teach you about disability rights and social care, but we provide full training on how to perform the roles of a support broker. You will learn important professional skills such as negotiation, communication, organisation, research and financial management. A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded* and references provided after the course.

A unique feature of our course is the three month placement (which will be one day a week or more) at the end of the four training sessions. Here you will get the chance to further develop your skills and gain more experience and knowledge. The placement will involve assisting a support planning or support brokerage program at CHOICE IN HACKNEY or another organisation of your choice**.

If you want to know more about your rights as a disabled person, how the social care system works and the role of a support broker, then this course is for you.

The four training sessions will last six hours each and will be held in June and Early July.

This peer led project is run by disabled trainers for disabled people. The venue we have chosen is fully accessible, and we are happy to discuss further access needs.

*The Certificate of Achievement will be awarded upon completion of the placement.

**Placement organisations will need to be approved by the trainers.
