About Us

The Bike Project is an award-winning charity which refurbishes second hand bikes and donates them to refugees.  We were founded in 2013 by, Jem Stein, after he struck up a friendship and found a bike for Adam, a Darfuri refugee who had fled his home in Sudan after war broke out.

The Bike Project has grown into a national operation with new CEO, hundreds of volunteers, a team of 20 committed staff, roadshows in different cities, an online shop and two workshops, one in the capital and one in Birmingham.

To date we have supported over 15,000 refugees and people seeking asylum by giving them a second-hand bike. In addition, we have supported hundreds through our programmes designed to build confidence and build friendships in the local community.

Duites and Responsibilities

This role oversees the securing and reporting of our Trusts and Foundation income, including working closely with colleagues to develop relevant, impactful and deliverable funding proposals and coordinate the stewardship of key trust and foundation relationships.

The role works closely with all colleagues to ensure a joined-up approach to income generation across the charity and our different supporter groups. 

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in preparing and submitting successful funding applications and proposals to charitable trusts and foundations, with a track record of securing five and six figure gifts, ideally within the refugee’s sector. You will have experience of working with, and applying for funding from, some of the larger grant organisations.

You will be experienced in identifying suitable prospects, developing pipelines, and managing funder relationships, adopting a strategic approach when working with colleagues across the organisation.

Location

This is a hybrid role, working from home with one day per week in either our London or Birmingham office. The salary is £42,000 for Birmingham-based employees and £45,000 for London-based employees, reflecting the London Living Wage adjustment

The Senior Events and Membership Co-ordinator has key responsibility for supporting our Organisational Membership alongside the Events Manager and the Head of Commercial Operations to ensure work is covered by the wider team and to act as a central point of contact for partners and clients.

About the opportunity

What does this role do?
As an Internal Communications Lead, you will:  

• lead the development and delivery of an exciting, clear, engaging internal communications strategy and plan that aligns with organisational priorities and operational plans whilst building a consistent brand experience across our touchpoints,
• lead and inspire a team of internal communications professionals, fostering creativity, storytelling and high performance,
• build strong relationships with senior leaders and key stakeholders, ensuring consistent, effective messaging across the organisation that tells the story of our people and dogs, our plans and the ways we work,
• oversee the creation and delivery of high-quality, audience-focused inspiring and compelling content across a range of internal channels and formats,
• drive continuous improvement through effective measurement, insight and innovation,
• lead on internal communications during times of crisis or serious issues affecting our staff.

About the role

As Head of Commercial Ventures, you will:

• Develop and deliver Lift’s first commercial enterprise strategy, aligned to our educational mission

• Lead development of business models, pricing strategies, go-to-market plans and commercial governance frameworks
• Establish systems, processes and performance metrics to ensure all commercial ventures are sustainable, ethical, and aligned with our educational purpose

You’ll work closely with senior leaders, schools and operational teams to turn ideas into scalable revenue streams, balancing innovation with integrity.

• Brings a strong track record in commercial business development, product design or venture growth
• Has taken a commercial idea from concept to delivery and scaled it successfully
• Combines strategic acumen with hands-on delivery and entrepreneurial drive
• Understands commercial governance, risk, and compliance in charitable or educational settings

We are seeking a Philanthropy Coordinator, Trusts & Foundations, to join the BFI’s Fundraising & Enterprise department.  You will contribute to BFI Philanthropy income targets and develop and maintain relationships with grant-making bodies. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Generate income for the BFI through the production of successful grant applications and to increase Trust and Foundation commitments through a flawless donor care programme, in complement to BFI Philanthropy’s communications schedules

• In conjunction with colleagues across the Philanthropy team, and the wider BFI, research and identify prospective funders in the UK and abroad

• Collaborate with the Philanthropy Manager, Prospect and Donor Insights to ensure an efficient and progressing pipeline of grant-making prospects and funders

• Experience of stewardship including accreditation and event management. 

• Experience of writing grant applications.

We are seeking a part-time Money Skills Coordinator to help us deliver our ambitious plans to equip more individuals with money skills. The primary purpose of this role is to manage Crosslight’s money skills courses that are attended by the local community as well as our debt advice clients. These are delivered online or in-person in a range of different locations across our network.

The role holder will take ownership of the planning and running of our money skills workshops, including setting them up on our systems. They will also act as a ‘champion’ for the courses, promoting them internally and externally, including through community engagement and outreach in different locations. And they will have the opportunity to deliver some of our workshops, as well as supporting and equipping our volunteers to do so to a high standard. 

For the right candidate, this role is an exciting opportunity to play a part in supporting a wide range of people, through excellent organisational, interpersonal, technical and presentation skills.

• The role is based in our Kensington head office and across a range of locations in South & West London and West Kent, delivering in-person support to our branches running our Money Skills workshops.  The role will also entail some evening working e.g. workshops, forums or team training (TOIL will be available). There may be some opportunities for remote working.
