The Court of the University of Aberdeen is seeking to appoint four new independent members (non-executive directors and charity trustees) to fill vacancies that will arise during the Summer 2024.

The University was established in 1495 to serve the north-east of Scotland, today our university is a global presence in higher education. A dual focus on our region and the wider world is as important to us today as it was five centuries ago.

After serving on our governing body, University Court, for a number of years, four of our independent Court members will step down in August 2024. The University is now seeking exceptional candidates to fill these vacancies to ensure the continued successful delivery of the University’s priorities and objectives, the setting of its strategic direction and commitment to its values and mission.

The following areas of professional expertise and/or experience would bring particular value to University Court and to the roles of independent members:

• Chartered accountancy within complex or international organisations

• People and culture at senior executive level

• Senior FTSE/international management

In addition, we would also welcome applications from individuals with professional expertise and/or experience in:

• Digitisation, emerging technology and AI

• Sustainability, net zero and transition planning

• Media and communications

The University is also seeking to recruit a member of Court to Chair the Remuneration Committee. The following areas of professional expertise and/or experience would bring particular value to University Court and to the role of chair of the Remuneration Committee:

• Demonstrable knowledge and expertise in people and HR leadership, change management, organisational development, culture, diversity and inclusion, and reward.

• Proven experience of connecting boards and executives to people and organisational priorities as a senior leader.

None of the posts are remunerated, however reasonable expenses incurred as result of your role on the committee will be re-imbursed in line with the University’s expenses policy.

The Chair of Breaking Barriers provides visionary leadership and strategic direction, ensuring that the organisation effectively achieves its mission while adhering to its core values. This pivotal role involves governance oversight, board leadership, executive support, and serving as an ambassador for the organisation.

Key responsibilities:

• Strategic leadership and vision: Guide the organisation with a strategic vision, aligning the board and staff's efforts with the mission. Lead the development and review of long-term strategies to ensure responsiveness to community needs and adaptability to the changing environment.
• Governance and oversight: Ensure effective governance, oversee board operations, and ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and functional responsibilities. Monitor financial performance and adherence to non-profit management best practices.
• Resource mobilisation: Support and participate in fundraising strategies, leveraging networks, and engaging with donors and stakeholders to secure necessary resources for the organisation's work.
• Building and leading the board: Ensure the board comprises members with diverse skills and perspectives. Lead recruitment, orientation, and training of board members and facilitate effective meetings and discussions, ensuring productive governance to advance the purpose and values of the organization.
• CEO support and evaluation: Support and maintain a constructive relationship with the CEO, creating a positive and strong working relationship to jointly set and achieve appropriate targets, staying in regular contact and acting as a sounding board to discuss strategic or staffing issues - coaching, supporting and challenging as necessary. Ensuring accountability for organisational performance.
• Ambassadorship: Act as the primary ambassador, representing and promoting the organisation's mission, values, and interests to external stakeholders, enhancing its reputation, and fostering collaboration, fundraising and promotional opportunities.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

• Ensure that SEED and its representatives function within all legal and regulatory frameworks continually striving for best practice in governance.

· Comply with SEED’s Code of Conduct and policies, providing leadership on its value base and organisational behaviour, including safeguarding, human resources and financial management.

· Work alongside fellow Trustees and the Senior Management Team in developing SEED’s strategic direction, promoting and developing this through good governance and clear strategic planning. To evaluate progress made towards achieving the strategic objectives.

• Ensure that SEED operates within its Charitable Objectives and organisational strategy in order that its work remains focussed and makes the greatest impact to those it serves.

• Actively contribute to the development of SEED’s business plan, monitoring and evaluating performance against agreed objectives.

• Prepare for and participate fully in board meetings reviewing all reports coming to these meetings.

• To undertake training when required.

• Use any specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach quick and sound decisions and participate in sub-committees.

· Support the recruitment of senior staff and offer on-going support and monitoring of their work.

· Assist in the recruitment, on-boarding and support of new Trustees when required.

· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of SEED including having appropriate policies and procedures in place. These policies and procedures are reviewed and signed off by the Trustee Board.

· Ensure that SEED has robust safeguarding policy and procedures in place and that safeguarding is embedded across the organisation

· Safeguard the good name and reputation of SEED, acting in the best interest of the charity, staff and beneficiaries at all times.

· Promote the work of SEED externally seeking opportunities that might further the work and visibility of the Charity.

·  Support the Managing Director in leading the Charity, providing advice and practical help and participating in their annual evaluation.

· Maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive or confidential information received through carrying out the duties of a Trustee.

· Remain open and accessible to SEED’s staff through occasional communication and site visits.

Accountability:

As a Trustee you are responsible and liable for the governance and functioning of the charity and are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders including: service users, members, funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House.

SEED Trustees should uphold the fiduciary duty required of all charity trustees to act in the best interests of both current and future beneficiaries of the charity, being held personally liable for any breach of that duty.

Support regarding this is given by fellow Trustees, the Managing Director and the Senior Management team.

Required skills & experience:

The successful applicant will:

• Demonstrate a passion for and sound knowledge of development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar.

• Demonstrate sound knowledge and keen interest in at least one of SEED’s core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation) or in a key functional area (management, finance, marketing).

• Have a reasonable level of understanding of legal, financial, audit and other regulatory requirements of a charity, ideally through experience as a trustee.

• Show commitment to SEED and have sufficient time and willingness to contribute effectively to board proceedings and sub committee work.

• Be able to make quick and sound decisions based on an analysis of information presented to them.

• Have the confidence to both advocate for or challenge ideas and can remain independent of any influence from other organisations or individuals.

• Be able to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to SEED’s Code of Conduct and values and be a good ambassador for the organisation at all times.

• Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other Trustees or members of staff in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED in order to protect the reputation of the NGO.

• Be able to work to and advocate for all of SEED’s policies and procedures, working within SEED’s Code of Conduct, safeguarding those that SEED works with and reporting any concerns appropriately.

• Have empathy with those living and working in a developing country with the ability and desire to work with teams from different economic and cultural backgrounds.

• Have excellent listening and verbal communication skills and a flexible and patient attitude.

The Compliance and Secretary Trustee manages the administrative duties of Hidayah. They fall into three main categories; Membership Administration, GDPR and Compliance Governance. Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

Membership Administration:

• Maintaining Hidayah’s membership database
• Gathering data relating to Hidayah events and activities to feed into the annual report and publicity documents (for example, surveys, excel spreadsheets and graphs, case studies)
• Effectively communicate updates to Hidayah members via CRM systems
• Promoting events in conjunction with the Communication & Marketing Trustee
• Evaluating, managing and continually improve the Hidayah membership experience (managing the end-to-end cycle)
• Regularly check, maintain and update Hidayah’s administration and data handling systems such as using Google Drive to store information

GDPR:

• Reviewing and keep all Hidayah policies updated in accordance to legal requirements and Charity Commission guidelines
• Ensuring that Hidayah membership records are GDPR compliant
• Updating trustees on any changes to the Charity Commission guidelines
• Where necessary, assisting the HR Officer in gathering relevant data on volunteers
• Supporting the HR Officer in creating flowcharts and processes in line with current legislation

Compliance Governance:

• Supporting Hidayah Trustees with compliance specific queries for finance, volunteers and membership
• Maintaining records and registers for auditing purposes
• Regularly auditing policies to determine risk involved and finding mitigating strategies
• Coordinating with the Deputy Chair to ensure that trustees are compliant with policies and procedures

How much time is required?

We are flexible around your schedule but we anticipate that this role will take up to 4 hours a week. The following commitments are in place for all member of the Hidayah board:

• Aim to attend all Trustee meetings, delivering a comprehensive report with updates and to complete actions as and when they appear
• Aim to attend all other planning meetings as necessary
• Attend Hidayah events (where geographically possible)
• Help to fundraise for, and advertise, any Hidayah events and fundraising drives
• Add to and maintain the administration of our file sharing system ‘Google Drive’ to ensure it’s up to date with clear records, templates and forms
• Check and respond to emails in a timely manner
• Contribute to the communications group (via Discord) and stay up to date with Hidayah developments
• Provide information, statements and data for the annual report
• Keep up to date with Hidayah communication and organisational developments

This role is subject to a 6 months probationary period with a 2 month notice period should you wish to resign.

This role is in place until the next AGM (August 2024) with extension subject to Board Member approval.

We operate two very successful B2B lottery partnerships delivering lotteries for other hospices and charities across the country. We have recently launched a new home care service in partnership with a national franchisor. We have a growing retail arm, with an increasing online presence. About the role

The Bournemouth & Poole College’s activities are overseen by the Board of the Corporation. It is responsible for agreeing, supporting and scrutinising the delivery of the College’s strategy.

The College Board has 16 members and includes members from the commercial, public, voluntary and education sectors. The Board operates a committee structure model and operates strictly in accordance with the government’s laid down ‘Instrument and Articles of Government’.

The role of the Governor is fundamental to strong and effective governance and is, therefore, key to Bournemouth & Poole College’s continued success. The Governors will bring experience at a strategic or senior level with a real recognition of the difference that education makes to the lives of thousands of people each year.

The appointed Governors will provide expertise in their area and ensure the collaboration of Governors is effective and of the highest standards, working as a coherent unit in close partnership with the management team to achieve the College’s strategy and objectives.

Together, the Corporation Board will review the College mission, consider strategic developments, systematically monitor College and management performance, review and monitor the implementation of a range of College policies, and ensure compliance with statutory requirements at all times. The Corporation is charged with developing an environment that enables the College to fulfil its mission for the benefit of learners and the community.

Overview

IHF, an award-winning International Non-profit established in 2001, is on a mission to (1) educate impoverished children, igniting their highest potential and fostering loving, healthy communities, and (2) enlighten global citizens through hands-on experiences, both online and in person. We provide a platform for learning and practicing leadership skills, welcoming participants from kindergarten to retirement age.

Join our IHF Indonesia Center for the Global Leadership Development (GLD) program and make a genuine impact during your stay as a volunteer.

The Role

As a GLD participant, you'll engage in four hours of local on-site tasks in addition to four hours per day as a member of various International Online Teams. Your local tasks may include, but are not limited to:

• Providing hands-on support for the center's daily operations

• Engaging in cultural exchange, teaching classes, and organizing fun activities for our children, teens, and university students

• Enhancing our children's education by participating in our online mentor and Study-Buddy programs

• Taking charge of the management, design, and execution of community-led projects aligned with your academic or professional expertise

• Overseeing local and international volunteers, shaping their experience at our Indonesian IHF Centers.

Your international online tasks may include, but are not limited to:

• Budgeting and finance

• Donor relations and sponsorships

• Social media campaigns and fundraising

• Social Media & Website development

• Human Resources

Essential Requirements

Eligibility

The program calls for a college diploma or university degree and a minimum commitment of four months, although we encourage volunteers to stay for up to one year. All volunteers enjoy one day off per week and a four-day holiday per month.

Africa Health Organisation (AHO) is setting up a pharmaceutical company to carry out research and produce drugs/medicines and vaccines for patients in Africa. Patients and healthcare providers are all dependent on pharmaceutical companies for the treatment of diseases. Over 80% of drugs/medicines and over 90% of vaccines used in Africa come from outside the continent. AHO is working hard to end this by setting up a new pharmaceutical company to produce drugs/medicines and vaccines in the continent. The purpose of the company is to study diseases, research, and invent new drugs/medicines and vaccines for the diseases. The companies require medical data and reports of patients for researching and discovering new drugs. This is made easier after medical records have gone electronic and are being stored after encryption through blockchain-based applications.

AHO is looking for Specialists in pharmaceutical science to help with setting up the company, registration, governance, board of directors, licensing, production, compliance, regulatory, finance, laboratory, human resources, and marketing.

Manchester Central Foodbank are a small but rapidly-growing charity at a pivotal moment in our evolution, and we are looking for an exceptional person to take on the role of Treasurer / Trustee.

We have recently established a finance committee, to ensure effective financial controls within our organisation. You will chair this committee of volunteers to support the foodbank in achieving its financial objectives. The finance committee and trustee board both meet every 4-6 weeks. Most of these meetings are online, with an occasional hybrid meeting.

About Manchester Central Foodbank
Manchester Central Foodbank (MCFB) is a Trussell Trust-affiliated food bank, with a centre in Central, North, and East Manchester. We were established in Ardwick in 2013 by students at the Manchester Universities’ Catholic Chaplaincy, making us the first student-led foodbank in the country. Since then we have grown significantly, expanding into Harpurhey and Openshaw, but our goal to end the need for food banks in Manchester has never changed.

We are one of 6 Trussell Trust-affiliated food banks in Manchester, and one of 19 in Greater Manchester. We work closely with our colleagues across the city, to develop and work towards a strong network of support for people locked in poverty. We know that the problem of poverty cannot be solved by giving out food alone, so we work hard to give wrap-around support to our clients, and to campaign for real change in our community.

Role responsibilities
General financial oversight:

• Liaise with MCF Managers, external accountants and auditors about financial matters.
• Oversee and present budgets, accounts and financial statements to the Board.
• Ensure that robust and effective systems, policies and controls are in place for finance and investment.
• Ensure an effective system of delegation for finance is in place.
• Ensure that record-keeping and accounts meet the conditions of funders and statutory bodies
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
• Ensure suitable financial roles are in place to fulfil our finance function.

Financial performance, reporting, planning & budgeting:

• Advise on the financial implications of strategic and operational plans.
• Oversee regular reports on the organisation’s financial position
• Ensure effective monitoring and reporting.
• Liaise with designated staff for accounts preparation and audit, as required.
• Present accounts at the AGM.
• Advise on MCFs reserves policy and our investment policy.

Banking, book-keeping, record-keeping and payroll:

• Oversee bank account management and that appropriate systems for bookkeeping, payments, lodgements & petty cash are in place.
• Ensure everyone handling money keeps proper records and documentation
• Payment and recording of all supplier invoices
• Recording all income received
• Preparation of monthly payroll and payment of staff
