Job description

Chief Executive
Overcoming MS
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience

Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis (OMS) seeks to appoint an exceptional leader to succeed the current CEO, who will step down after more than seven years of dedicated service. The new CEO will lead the charity into its next phase of growth, expanding its digital footprint and its global activities.

OMS is a young, unique and dynamic charity bringing fresh hope to the MS community both in the UK and around the world. Established in 2012, its mission is to raise awareness of the OMS 7 Step Recovery Programme, a scientifically researched, evidence-based approach to MS management that has been shown to improve health outcomes through diet and lifestyle changes.

OMS has grown from humble beginnings, with just a few dozen people engaged in the UK, to the global footprint and audience engagement it has today. Across its many experiential and digital platforms, the charity offers a variety of ways to inform, educate and empower people with MS, their families and communities.

MS is a global disease, which currently has no cure. It affects roughly 3 million people world-wide and there is no country which is free from MS. It affects people in the prime of their lives, aged between 20-40 years old, and affects three times as many women as men. In the UK alone, there are over 110,000 people diagnosed with MS, and a further 5,000 diagnosed each year.

The CEO reports to the Board of Trustees and will be responsible for all aspects of the overall strategy, planning, resourcing, operational performance and governance of OMS, as well as representing the organisation and its work externally. The postholder will instil and grow a strong internal organisational culture, working collaboratively with the Chair and other key stakeholders. The CEO will build and lead a motivated and high-performing team that will work to support the growth and nurturance of the OMS community in the UK and around the world.

The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with a strong sense of integrity and a values-driven approach. S/he will have a proven track record in leading an organisation through a step-change in growth, including digital and global expansion, expertise in relationship management, a strong understanding of fundraising, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a passion for OMS’ mission.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated, entrepreneurial individual with a track record of success to develop professionally and take the Charity to its next level.

This is a full-time position based in Haddenham (Buckinghamshire), with flexible working possible once established in role.
