The development and growth of Men’s Sheds is made possible through a network of volunteers and partnerships across the UK.
These roles will develop new Sheds across the East Midlands and North of England., coordinate and manage partnerships with other organisations and charities to support the growth and development of the movement. This role has the focus to support the growth of new and development of new Men’s Sheds, enhancing our reach and the reach of Sheds. Our partnerships underpin the development programmes for the charity.

Centre for London is London’s independent think tank, and a registered charity. As Research Director, you will lead Centre for London’s research team, developing new solutions to London’s critical challenges, securing funding for our work, preparing, publishing and promoting reports, supporting public events, and communicating our work to stakeholders and policymakers.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will help develop and implement the organisational strategy; contribute to the development, fundraising and delivery of events and other projects; and promote the ideas of the organisation to build its influence in existing and new public and private arenas.
The recommendations of your team will make a difference to policy and practice – tackling issues such as housing, poverty and inequality, employment and skills, transport and the public realm, the climate and nature crises, community resilience, and London’s place in the UK and the world. You will be line– managed by the CEO and work closely with the External Affairs and Development teams.
This role would best suit someone with significant experience leading policy research programmes – in a think tank, consultancy, central or local government, academia or similar. You will have a strong understanding of policy in London and the UK, project management skills, and be able to credibly communicate complex ideas to different audiences – in meetings, in writing, through blogs and articles, and in speeches. You will have strong analytical skills, including a track record of qualitative and quantitative research. You will have experience in fundraising, will have managed budgets, and will be confident working with researchers at different stages in their careers. However, we are less interested in what you have done, and more in what you can do.
This is ideally a full-time role; however, flexible working is embedded within our culture. We would be open to applications from people who would like to work compressed hours, part time (0.8 minimum) or to people applying as a job share. We’re looking for an exceptional individual to become our new Director of Operations. The right person will balance strong interpersonal and leadership skills and robust operational ability in the areas of finance, administration and fundraising. The role of Director of Operations is central to helping us achieve our ambition of further growing as a Black led institution for learning and caring about nature. We are looking for someone with the experience to help shape our growth and guide implementation of our 5 year plan, and who will grow with us to become our Chief Operating Officer.

The role:
Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Property and Development will oversee the provision of high-quality asset management and repair services in-line with PBHA values and strategic objectives. Working closely with the Director of Services, the successful candidate will aid in the identification, management and acquisition of opportunities that will enable PBHA’s strategic growth. The role will help to ensure that PBHA’s work, and homes, meet building standards, health and safety obligations, regulatory framework, and will always provide a high-quality service to PBHA tenants.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Spearhead line-management of PBHA’s Property and Development Team through performance management and handling employee relations issues if necessary.
- Organise and coordinate work programmes.
- Lead Housing Development programmes ensuring compliance with building standards, health and safety and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, induction and onboarding of team members.
- Participate in on-call rota and respond appropriately to out of hours incidents.
- Provide strategic and operational direction to enhance the long-term management and investment objectives of the property portfolio.
- Ensure PBHA’s assets are surveyed and data records are established and upheld to monitor property condition.
- Oversee and manage stock improvement and maintenance programmes, ensuring that they meet service standards and agreed budgets.
- As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, present to Board and Services Committee, offering recommendations in accordance with the Asset Management Strategy.
- Develop high quality policies, procedures and systems relating to Property and Development Service.
- Advise tenants and other PBHA teams on strategy and future policy implementation.
- Propose appropriate partnership development opportunities to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Monitor and evaluate service delivery, collating information for monthly, quarterly and annual performance metrics.
- Respond proactively to complaints regarding services, staff and contractors.
- Develop and implement new procedures in response to legislation changes and emerging best practice.
- Aid team in creating and maintaining good working relations with landlords, contractors and professional consultants.
Person specification:
- Experience delivering and improving Repairs and Maintenance Service, preferably for a Registered Provider or Charity.
- Substantial project or change management experience.
- Experience developing specifications for property related tenders and managing contracts.
- Revenue and Capital Budgets experience.
- Staff management experience.
- Building related qualification and professional body membership, e.g. RCIS/MCIOB, degree or HND in building management.
- Knowledge of project management, e.g. PRINCE 2/APM Techniques.
- Experience of housing development issues, funding, approaches and financing.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation.
- Prioritisation and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong IT and data management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Communication skills, specifically with stakeholders.

Springfield Advice & Law Centre is a community based legal practice and a registered charity. We were formed in 1982 when we were set up to serve the mental health community. We are based mainly on the site of Springfield University Hospital Mental Health NHS Trust. Springfield Law Centre is unique as a working model of a health justice partnership.
We are seeking a for a new Director & Head of Legal Practice to take forward this unique, niche Law Centre. There is an opportunity for expanding the work of the Law Centre and showcasing the worth of health justice partnerships.We are looking for an energetic and compassionate lawyer with a broad experience of either housing or community care casework and representation, who is capable of being a legal aid category supervisor in either area, who has the confidence to lead the team and to develop it so that we can continue to make a real difference within the community.
Qualifications and experience
- 5 years’ PQE qualified lawyer, with demonstrable experience of management at a senior level.
- Ability to meet the supervisor for the Legal Aid Agency contract in either housing or community care.
- A track record of implementing and managing change.
- A track record of leading and motivating others demonstrating strong people skills.
- A track record of innovation and problem solving.
- Appropriate skills and experience that demonstrate an ability and commitment to manage staff effectively. This should include support, supervision, and appraisal and performance management.
- Appropriate skills and experience to effectively handle and manage complaints.
- Experience of managing a Legal Aid Agency Contract and Legal Help matters, with billing targets.
- Ability to bill all types of legally-aided work and to report to the Legal Aid Agency.
- Ability to manage a varied caseload of sufficient, appropriate matters to meet the billing target in place.
- Ability to draft appropriate documentation in your specialist area of law.
- Experience of giving successful training or talks, for example giving presentations, or

- Ability to manage the Lexcel Quality Mark and ensure that systems and standards are maintained across the organisation so that audits are passed.

The Director of Operations will work as part of the management team to develop and implement the organisation’s strategy and operational plans and to build the longer term sustainability of the organisation. They will be required to deputise for the Chief Officer in their absence and assist in the overall management of the organisation. As part of the management team the role demands a high level of flexibility, initiative and commitment. The role also involves working with the Chief Officer to design and improve our monitoring, evaluation and learning across the organisation in line with our new strategy.
The Director of Operations will have lead responsibility for overseeing the day to day operations and coordinating external partnerships and relationships. Operational oversight includes the two core pillars of work:-
- Streams of Sanctuary programmes and awards (by streams we mean mainstream sector e.g. schools)

Property & Asset Development Surveyor
The Vacancy
We are offering this unique opportunity to support the Methodist Church in delivering its strategic plan to make the best use of its property portfolio in local communities across the country.
Working alongside the Director and colleagues within the Property Support team, you will be a crucial team member providing professional guidance and support to Trustees nationally. Focussing on the unique skills you bring to the team, you will help guide them on matters including the planning, development and commercial potential for their property assets to enable them to make informed choices and contribute to the promotion and delivery of the Methodist Church’s property strategy.
Through your specific knowledge and experience, you will also have input into the provision of guidance, advice, communications, training and good practice for District Property Officers and the wider Methodist Church on property matters.
This is a hybrid/remote working role, with the post holder required to travel to our offices in London, Manchester and any other locations around the country as necessary.
About You
We are looking for someone who wants to make a positive contribution to the work of the Property Support team and be equally comfortable collaborating in a team environment or under your own initiative. You will be an experienced professional development surveyor or equivalent, with a record of developing and implementing innovative and practical strategies for the management, use, reuse and development of property.
You will be called upon to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders including committees and therefore a mix of excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills are essential.
