The Homelessness and Housing Law Specialist Advisor will work alongside our client services teams across England, to prevent and end homelessness for people we support. Providing expert advice, support and advocacy to our staff and members in the most complex cases.
Salary: £38,585 (regions) or £42,746 (London) per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week (open to compressed hours in line with Crisis’ Flexible Working Policy)
Location: To be based in any of the Crisis Skylights in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham, Oxford, South Wales, Central London, Croydon, or Brent, but with home working as an option in line with Crisis’ Hybrid Working Policy
About the role
We are looking for an expert on homelessness legislation (the Homelessness Reduction Act) and relevant housing legislation to contribute to Crisis’ mission of ending homelessness. You will provide advice and casework covering complex areas of both housing and homelessness legislation to frontline employees working directly with people experiencing homelessness and at risk of homelessness in England. You will be an advocate for our members, by using housing law knowledge to request temporary housing from local authorities, for those who are street homeless. You will have the opportunity to produce housing law briefings, template letters and a toolkit of resources including checklists to support staff when working with beneficiaries.
About you

Demonstrable track record of successfully preventing and relieving people’s homelessness through advocacy and the application of relevant homelessness and housing law, including complex cases such as people with different immigration status.

Expert knowledge of relevant homelessness and housing legislation, including Housing Act 1996 Parts VI and VII, Homelessness Act 2002 Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Protection for Eviction Act 1977, Landlord and Tenant Act 1985

Knowledge of the issues affecting homeless people and the impact and interaction of welfare and immigration policies on homelessness

Familiarity with local authority housing options services and their processes
You may have experience in, Housing and Homelessness Law, Local Authority Homelessness or Housing Options teams, Advice and advocacy, specialist casework.

The Head of IT will lead the development and delivery of Information Technology, Digital and Data strategies for Help Musicians, and their sister charity Music Minds Matter, to ensure a fit for purpose infrastructure, software products and information that supports their business needs, while continuously improving in line with new technologies. As a member of the leadership team, you will effectively lead the charity’s IT team and work closely with colleagues to deliver the businesses core strategic objectives.
Key Deliverables for this role include:
- Leads in the development of a multi-year IT strategy which supports the aims of the charity’s three-year business plan – develops, executes, and keeps up to date strategies (IT, Digital, Data) that delivers agreed outcomes.
- Manages IT related risks enabling the organisation to manage its operations and services safely and securely.
- Provides effective leadership and management to all those reporting to you, ensuring staff are motivated to deliver to their personal potential and add maximum value to the charity. Models’ leadership behaviours that will embed IT and digitalisation across the charity.
- Manages relationships with stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes and effective representation of department and the charity where required.
Main responsibilities
- Lead on the development and execution of the charity’s IT strategy that proactively supports the business and manages IT related risks well.
- Working collaboratively with the leadership team, model leadership behaviours that will embed IT and digitalisation across HM, upholding Help Musicians values, working with the highest professional standards and maintaining high staff morale.
- Develop and sustain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, working with teams to plan and deliver IT Programme.
- Develop and keep up to date IT related policies and procedures that are publicised, understood, and adhered to by HM.
- Embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within HM, devising and leading on delivering a strategy for continuous improvement and on-going service improvement and process reviews.
- Ensure all technology risks are effectively managed and the Help Musicians technology estate is secure.
- Responsible for the management and delivery of the IT budget ensuring value for money.
- Effectively lead, manage, motivate, and develop the IT team through regular supervision, appraisal, and performance management, to develop them to their full potential.
Essential knowledge and experience
- Experience of leading and managing an IT service in an SME to include:
- Managing and developing complex strategies, projects, and teams;
- Identification and successful implementation of new technologies and systems;
- Working with a mix of cloud-based service providers as well as inhouse and outsourced managed services;
- Digital and data IT security and governance requirements;
- Providing expert advice and reports to Board, Committees, and senior colleagues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of existing and developing technologies, and how they can be applied to business;
- Good knowledge, experience and understanding of programme and project management delivery;
- Experience of leading teams, motivating people to deliver goals, and people management best practices;
- Experience of communicating, negotiating, and influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and partners;
- Experience of successfully managing departmental budget;
- Effective risk management.

Energy Advisers - Leeds will manage a caseload of disabled households struggling with their energy and water bills, supporting, and empowering them over the phone. Customers in need of either more in-depth support, or support with water bills, will be referred to you by a separate team of advisers.

The role
In this role you will be:
Reviewing and confirming details from a previous assessment with the customer and conduct a second assessment to fully understand their support needs.
Developing goal-based action plans that clearly show how the customers support needs will be addressed.

About You

This service helps customers through their unfair extra costs and additional vulnerability to fuel poverty. Therefore, you will demonstrate effective person-centred listening, empathy, and probing skills to respond to underlying issues and assist customers to make informed choices.
Being able to respond positively to change while being able to work effectively with conflicting priorities will allow to succeed within this role.

About the role
In this role you will develop and deliver against a comprehensive project plan that creates a rigorous process for the governance, review, redevelopment, publication, and promotion of NCT’s Parent Content. This includes creating a framework capturing key roles, responsibilities, processes, and interdependencies.
You will work as part of a team, building and maintaining effective and robust relationships with key stakeholders involved in delivering against the project’s aims, with focus on the fast track of the review and publication of the first phase of content, establishing a process for further phases, and embedding into a business-as-usual state.
Working with the Project Team, you will embed key project management principles relevant to the project, including building processes with the Patient Information Forum (PIF) accreditation scheme in mind, with a view to NCT achieving this accreditation in the near future. You will help establish and report upon existing and/or new KPIs that demonstrate impact from a charitable, fundraising, inclusivity and digital compliance perspective.
The main objectives of the role are to:
· 1. Prepare and execute a project plan that establishes a clear process of review, rationalisation, publication, and promotion of revised and new parent content.
· 2. Refresh our governance framework, ways of working and processes that involve key stakeholders across NCT. This includes establishing external expert groups, advisers and partners, including parents.
· 3. Support the embedding of new ways of working that clearly demonstrate impact against a suite of parent impact and engagement KPIs and;
· 4. Support the upskilling of key members of the Communications and Campaigns Team, utilising mentoring techniques to ensure the project’s infrastructure and approach is embedded long term

Our Service delivers independent advice to Greenwich students, supporting them to stay and succeed at university. This role will specifically support students on our Greenwich and Avery Hill sites but you’ll also help students studying on our Medway campus, mainly.
The Students’ Union Advice Service is a professional, independent, and free service that empowers students to navigate academic regulation, and access support. The Student Adviser has a key role in providing professional advice to students 1-1 and in a group.
Looking at trend data, the role will support the team in developing insights into the needs of students studying at Greenwich.
Guided by this information, the post holder will develop new initiatives and facilitate service outreach to reduce the likelihood of issues arising in the first place.
This role sits within the Advocacy and Policy Team who focus on making 1-1 timely interventions to support students to succeed as well as identifying broader trends in student behavior to inform our strategic approach to services and support.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
This post holder will be part of the wider Advocacy and Policy Team and will be expected to contribute to departments wider objectives and planning.

- Provide academic processes and welfare advice to clients on relevant issues online, on the phone and in person.
- Take an empowering, client centred approach and, if necessary, act on behalf of the client to obtain information or advocate for them.
- Undertake peer review activities and supervision.
- To create and maintain accurate, comprehensive case records at all times; record all advice given and outcomes of any actions taken. Ensure confidentiality is adhered to.

- Monitor trends in student casework and advice queries and report on these trends to inform Students’ Union practices and advocacy.

About the role
The Crisis Financing Training & Capacity Development Advisor will be responsible for developing and expanding an innovative package of trainings and learning for the Start Network.
You will play a crucial role in the ongoing capacity development of Start Network organisation, by disseminating and institutionalising new developments in learning, knowledge and terminology
related to Start Network crisis financing programming throughout the staff team.
You will continue to develop new and strengthen existing training packages that are of high quality and will ensure that Start Network's New Financing programming is mainstreamed throughout the sector in a sustainable manner.
You will be responsible for assisting in delivering trainings to member agency colleagues, Start Network Hubs as well as training the Start Network team. You will coordinate a group of ‘trainers' who can offer high quality capacity development opportunities. You will also ensure that monitoring, evaluation and accountability is built into capacity development to measure outputs and outcomes more systematically.
In this role, you will:
- Leverage technical expertise from Start team members, technical partners and the anticipation and risk financing building blocks framework to design modularised training and learning materials to meet the capacity development needs of the Start Network, including e-learning.
- Identify and develop a training of trainers (TOT) programme and build up a group of trainers within the Start team and across the Start Network membership.
- Strengthen the training and facilitation skills of Start Network team
- Develop a learning pathway with the technical leads to ensure different stakeholders can access the training necessary for their role

- Work with the Head of Comms and Executive Team to align messaging and develop campaigns that communicate the company’s strategy, purpose and values.
- Advise and work closely with senior leaders and managers on internal and corporate communications.
- Develop and implement internal and external-facing campaigns that relate to corporate activities, including areas such as recruitment, learning and development, wellbeing, quality, health and safety, and sustainability.
- Develop and nurture relationships across teams to source information and effectively implement communication initiatives.
- Embed consistency and develop understanding and alignment with our brand identity and messaging across internal teams.
- Develop and manage feedback and insights-led approaches to understanding and improving employee communications and report on activity.
- Support a culture of cross-organisational working and contribute to the overall objectives of the communications team.
- Champion inclusivity and accessibility across our channels and content.
