Job description

Social Enterprise East of England (SEEE) supports social enterprises across the East to grow, collaborate and demonstrate their impact and social value.

SEEE is the membership organisation for social enterprises and is a social enterprise itself. We provide services to members to help their enterprises to thrive such as events and webinars, and we advance social enterprise through targeted consultancy and project work.

Our members are from diverse sectors covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk. SEEE also manages the Essex Social Enterprise Network and Cambridgeshire Social Enterprise Place.

Location: Remote based (possibility of some travel across East of England when restrictions lifted)

Contract: Part time, self employed

Hours: 14-21 hours per week/2-3 days depending on availability

Salary: Up to £35,000 pro rata depending on experience

The role

SEEE is looking to expand its current capacity to ensure the smooth running of the organisation and future sustainability as we embark on some exciting new projects.

SEEE has identified the need to appoint an interim Managing Director to work alongside the Chair of the Board and Directors to develop our strategic priorities; and to work with and support their Membership and Marketing Manager and Consultants. Initially this is for a 6-month contract with possibility to extend the position.

This will include representing SEEE at a strategic level across the region and with Social Enterprise UK, identifying new funding and partnership working opportunities and managing projects as the senior manager of the organisation.

This is a new role to support our organisation through a key stage in our development and we welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds.  This is a part-time post and flexible, remote working is available, with the role equally suited to an employed or consultancy basis.

You will have:

  • Influencing skills with recent experience of establishing partnerships and networking to build relationships with LEPs, SEUK and other organisations.
  • Experience of managing projects and deliverables.
  • A sound financial understanding, including experience of financial planning and managing budgets.
  • Leadership and management experience, ideally within the third sector – with a collaborative style and willingness to work with others so that you can lead and motivate a small support team of external consultants.
  • General experience/knowledge of the third sector regionally
  • Experience of leveraging support through fundraising, collaboration, and developing strategic partnerships including identifying sources of funding and bid writing.
  • Excellent communication skills to able to represent SEEE regionally and nationally and to our members.
  • Experience of the infrastructure organisations that support social enterprise, including local authorities, other statutory organisations, Local Enterprise Partnerships, national support organisations.
  • Board level experience and understanding of third sector governance.
