Job description

Thank you for considering to become our new Director. Fulham Good Neighbour Service is a well-loved and respected local charity. It was set up in 1966 but was born out of the Fulham District Nursing Association, established in 1920. Today, Fulham Good Neighbours is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee, with seven paid staff members and around 100 volunteers. The charity has won a number of awards, including the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Our mission is to enable local older, disabled and vulnerable adults to:

Fulham Good Neighbours support mainly older people, including those with dementia, with a range of services:

Good Neighbour Scheme – practical help at home. We do what any good neighbour would: small DIY, collect medication, escort to appointments, accompany shopping and take care of pets to name just a few of our free services delivered by nearly 100 volunteers, many of whom are older people.

Finally, we organise the Parsons Green Fair - an annual event for the whole community attended by over 9,000 people.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Take responsibility for the successful implementation of the charity's strategic plan
  2. Initiate new project development for approval by the board of trustees
  3. Recruit and manage staff
  4. Ensure staff are supported in their roles and that they meet their targets
  5. Cover for staff in their absence
  6. Ensure there are sufficient numbers of active volunteers who are adequately supported
  7. Promote the organisation, increase its visibility and build relationships with stakeholders
  8. Provide management, monitoring and evaluation of projects and core activities
  9. Support the Parsons Fair Committee and Board of Trustees with the organisation and successful implementation of the event.
  10. In conjunction with the Finance Administrator and Treasurer, monitor all income, expenditure, accounts, funding, investments and budgets
  11. Nurture existing, and initiate new, funding sources. Maximise other income
  12. Continue to develop the charity’s IT systems and ensure that it remains at the forefront of technological changes
  13. Attend board meetings and determine policy in conjunction with the Board of Trustees
  14. Act as company secretary
  15. Ensure the charity complies with charity and company law
  16. Ensure appropriate health and safety policies and practices are in place
  17. Take responsibility for the security, alarm and daily management of the premises
  18. Maintain awareness of relevant charitable and local sector issues and trends
  19. Build and nurture relationships within the local community and with local businesses
  20. Carry out any other tasks and duties as determined by the Board of Trustees

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements

  1. Senior management experience within the charity sector or similar
  2. Experience of working at a senior level with and under the direction of a board of trustees
  3. Experience in the negotiating, monitoring and reporting on statutory and non-statutory funding
  4. Financial acumen including financial reporting
  5. Experience of successfully delivering strategic plans
  6. Experience in publicity and marketing
  7. Experience in management of staff and volunteers

Desirable requirements

  1. Empathy and experience of working with older people
  2. Knowledge of Sage charity accounting software
  3. Local knowledge

Conditions

Ability to work flexibly with occasional evenings and weekends

What we offer

We are a small but friendly team of seven staff, five of whom work part-time. We hope that you will decide to join us and benefit from the following:

Salary: JPC Pay Scale 39-43; starting salary £41,675
