Job description

Are you experienced in fundraising?  Are you looking to broaden your role?  This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic charity in a pivotal position.  Working closely with the Director you will cultivate an established network of donors to maximise income and lead on fundraising efforts and impact assessment.

You will be process driven with strong organisational skills and an attention to detail. You will lead the development of our operational infrastructure.


Renaissance Foundation works with young people with significant challenges in their lives. We work with inspirational people, businesses and institutions to give our beneficiaries resilience, life experience and skills to enable them to achieve their potential.

We are at an exciting and pivotal point in our development, looking to broaden and grow our income streams, to invest in the development and scale of our programme, and to strengthen our processes and capacity to grow.

We are looking for a Head of Fundraising and Operations, who will play a critical role in making a success of our vision. This broad-ranging role will lead our fundraising efforts and impact assessment, and the development of our operational infrastructure.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Fundraising and impact assessment

The role will have principal responsibility for developing and delivering a fundraising strategy, building on the foundations that have increased income from around £40,000 to £180,000 over the past four years.

  • We expect this to include:
    • Managing relationships, with the support of the CEO, with major donors
    • Managing relationships with and applications to trusts and foundations
    • Managing smaller donor programmes
    • Fundraising and engagement events
    • Communications with existing funders and other potential supporters
    • Managing the charity’s donor and supporter database
  • Managing interns  working in this area
  • Using the information captured by our outreach team to maintain and analyse information on participants and their activity, to develop case studies, and to measure our impact over time
  • Ensuring that we remain clear on the needs of our participants, using research where necessary, and that our impact addresses these needs


The charity is at a stage of its development where we need to strengthen our processes and become more systematic about the way we operate. Renaissance Foundation is full of creative talent and energy; we need to ensure that this is focused to ensure that we are maximising our impact. The remit is therefore broad, but we expect it to include:

  • Ensuring that the workings of and rationale for all aspects of the programme are clearly documented, to ensure alignment of focus internally, and to assist with the articulation of our mission to potential supporters
  • Ensuring that our data on referral agencies, participants and programme partners is of the highest quality
  • Assisting the CEO in defining operational targets for employees and volunteers, and tracking performance against these targets
  • Playing a lead role supporting the CEO on any major projects (eg. moving premises, setting up satellite hubs)
  • Playing a lead role supporting the CEO on developing the charity’s strategy and longer-term plans

Person specification


  • Educated to degree level
  • At least 3 years experience in a fundraising or fundraising operations role
  • Previous direct responsibility for operations is not critical but desirable

Personal qualities:

  • The ability to think in a highly structured way and to simplify complex issues into forms that can be easily understood by others
  • Excellent written English, with extensive experience of business and/or marketing communication
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • the ability to engage and communicate with a broad range of people 
  • Flexibility, and enthusiasm for working in the fast-paced and constantly changing environment of a growing service-providing charity
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritise competing demands, even when under pressure, in a methodical and systematic manner
