Job description

The Wolfson Foundation is a charity that awards grants to support excellence in the fields of science, health, heritage, humanities and the arts, with education and research underpinning everything that we do. We are one of the country’s largest funding charities, and in 2019 we allocated some £40m in grants.

We are recruiting for an important and exciting role: our Programme Manager (Heritage, Arts and Schools).

The post reports directly to the Head of Funding, line manages a Programme Officer and delivers all of our grant programmes in these areas, in line with our new Strategic Framework which will be launched in spring 2020. The key areas of focus are heritage, museums & galleries, libraries & archives, performing arts, as well as secondary schools. The role also provides support on the administration of the Wolfson History Prize.

The successful applicant will have an enthusiasm for the sectors covered by this role, and it is expected that they will have at least three years of experience in one or more of the programme areas. Some experience of grant-making would be preferred, although we recognise that the role is also likely to appeal to individuals looking to build on their experience in the cultural or educational sectors and take their first step into a philanthropic organisation.

Essential skills include outstanding organisational and administrative skills, a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work flexibly, managing a varied workload under pressure. The individual needs to be able to work effectively as part of a small team while also being capable of undertaking independent work. Creating and maintaining high quality relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at varying levels of seniority is critical.

The Foundation is able to offer £35,000-40,000 per annum as part of a competitive remuneration package, including private health insurance and pension contribution.
