Job description

Sightsavers is looking for an Events Executive – a new role within our expanding Global Events team to help us plan, manager and deliver specific organisation-led events

Location:UK remote – with occasional travel to Haywards Heath, London and potentially internationally when required

Hours:This is a full-time/ part-time role with flexibility around hours worked and home working

About the role

Sightsavers implements projects in over 30 countries in Africa and South Asia working to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote the rights of people with disabilities. We are looking for an experienced and organised Events Executive to help us manage specific in-person and online events from the briefing and invitation process through to the successful delivery of the event itself.  You will join at an exciting time for Sightsavers as our events schedule grows to include increasing numbers of online events to support and promote our programmes. Key duties will include:

  • Managing the ‘home’ team at an event to ensure that all logistics are handled in a professional manner, to time and within budget
  • Working closely with key internal stakeholders to ensure that events meet specified objectives
  • Overseeing the design and production of banners and other event materials
  • Managing online events and ensure technical aspects are delivered to high standards
  • Ensuring events meet all accessibility requirements
  • Acting as key point of contact for external suppliers and venues where appropriate
  • Supporting the Global Events Manager by carrying out specific tasks relating to larger, high-profile events e.g., guest list management, researching venues and suppliers etc.
  • Supporting the Head of Global Events and Major Giving Communications by carrying out specific tasks relating to stewarding and / or engaging celebrities or Ambassadors or celebrity-related campaigns and initiatives.

Please note that there will be some elements of manual handling to this role, including erecting banners, exhibits and carrying equipment. It will also require some flexibility around hours worked in advance of and during events and some international travel. Whilst most of this role can be carried out from home, there are times when we’ll need you to travel to London (we will pay for this) and potentially our programme countries too.

This role can also be worked on a part-time basis, a minimum of 21 hours per week with a pro rata salary (0.6 FTE). Ideally worked days would include Wednesdays but this isn’t essential

About you

This is an ideal opportunity to build on your existing events experience. We do not expect you to have prior international events experience, but you will need strong prioritisation and logistical skills. To succeed in this role, you will need demonstrable experience in an events management / events delivery role, including managing online events as well as:

  • Event management skills
  • Diplomatic stakeholder management skills
  • Organisation skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Project management skills
  • Time and budget management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to travel
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Research skills
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity for disabled people
  • An interest in celebrity management / stewardship

This is a varied role, please read the full job description for further details. As an equal opportunity employer, we actively encourage applications from all sections of the community. Sightsavers is a Disability Confident Leader and qualified people living with a disability are particularly encouraged to apply.

Sightsavers offers some fantastic benefits. Our comprehensive benefits package includes generous annual leave allowance, pension, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme, discounted gym memberships and wellness discounts. If you choose to work in or are visiting our collaborative, modern office space, you will find it an easy 20-minute train journey from Brighton or 45 minutes from London.
