Job description

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has grown and developed into one of the country’s leading environmental organisations and we have an outstanding reputation both locally and nationally for innovation, vision and delivery. Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will have collective responsibility for the entire organisation and will help to deliver an integrated and holistic approach to delivering the Trust's aims and objectives. You will help to formulate policy, guide the Trust's development and secure resources to enable the organisation to maximise every opportunity to achieve its aims and, in addition, as Head of Conservation, you will have a crucial role in extending the influence of the Trust at local, regional, national and European level

You will have specific responsibility for leading and managing the fulfilment of the Trust’s conservation objectives including the delivery of a nature recovery network, integrating the management of the Trust’s estate and other land with the development of policies, campaigns and strategies. You will have direct line management responsibility for 9 staff and overall responsibility for 6 teams.

A substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy is required to oversee a section delivering a wide range of activities. Working closely with the CEO you will build and develop our evidence base, prepare policies and strategies, lead on advocacy work, landowner liaison, species and habitat projects and ensure the exemplary management of our nature reserves. You will write business plans and lead on their delivery, setting annual work programmes, targets and budgets and work in close liaison with a wide range of external and internal contacts.

You must have an excellent understanding of nature conservation and the opportunities and challenges this presents. We are looking for an innovative individual with an entrepreneurial approach and a strong commitment to the environment. This is a variable, technical and fast-paced role requiring substantial experience, political awareness, ability to generate income, financial literacy, stakeholder management and a flexible approach. If you would like to know more about this exciting role we would very much like to hear from you.
