Overview of Hopeful families

Hopeful Families is a community programme run by the ‘PLUSS’ Organisation and a team of five West Yorkshire voluntary and community partners.

Jointly funded by National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund, the programme is designed to help individuals from the region’s most socially excluded families.

Hopeful Families aims to help individuals who are out of work to build their confidence and overcome the challenges they face in finding employment.

The programme will be individually tailored to meet a person’s needs and will offer advice in areas such as personal development, health and wellbeing, finance and benefits as well as providing access to training and life-skills mentoring, such as using digital technology.

Groundwork support is provided through family mentors who offer one to one sessions with either an individual in the family, or with the family as a whole, to help improve their situation and encourage a more positive outlook.

Groundwork is one provider of the Hopeful family project based in Wakefield. We are committed to achieving a working environment which provides equality of opportunity and freedom from unlawful discrimination on the grounds of race, sex, pregnancy and maternity, marital or civil partnership status, gender reassignment, disability, religion or beliefs, age or sexual orientation.

Purpose of Job

The Family Mentor will support clients within the wider Calderdale, Kirklees & Wakefield area, providing 1:1 support to engage with disadvantaged participants with multiple barriers, assessing their needs and developing individually tailored support packages to enable them to become more socially included and enter training, education and /or employment.
