This is a fantastic opportunity to lead our highly motivated and successful fundraising team, and take our income to a new level. This new position will develop our fundraising and communications strategy and oversee its implementation. The role includes working closely with colleagues in Zambia.
You will line manage a team of four who work out of our open plan office in Shrewsbury (or from home), and be a key member of the SMT, supporting the wider development of the organisation.
We are flexible on employee location but expect the post-holder to spend a considerable amount of time in the Shrewsbury office (at least 40%).
The successful candidate will have:
- Overall responsibility for defining and implementing our fundraising strategy, steadily increasing our income towards £2M
- Strong affinity with our mission, values and approach
- Senior fundraising experience with proven leadership skills and at least 3 years experience in a not for profit organisation
- Sound understanding of and ability to pursue a relationship based approach to raising funds
- Some experience of international development – ideally in a fundraising capacity. Familiarity with Zambia/southern Africa an advantage.

The Gender and Development Network is recruiting for a new Coordinator. This post lies at the heart of the network, working as part of a small Secretariat alongside our members, working groups and Board across a range of international development issues.
We are looking for someone who has experience of administration and finance, who is organised with excellent communication skills, and who is highly motivated to work for gender equality and women’s rights to join our team. We are a highly respected network with over 150 members and an excellent track record of influencing government and supporting our members in their work to achieve gender equality and women’s rights internationally.
Specifically the role is to:
- Coordinate the network’s support to our members
- Coordinate the work of the various branches of the network
- Manage administrative systems of the network
- Administer the finances of the network
- Contribute to the network’s external communications
Specific Tasks
1. Coordinate support to the network’s members
- Act as a friendly, supportive and approachable face of the network
- Provide support to the network’s Working Groups, liaising closely with their Chairs
- Co-ordinate regular members’ mailings, distribution lists and the weekly e-bulletin
- Organise four Members’ Meetings per year
- Recruit and induct new members
- Facilitate informal networking among members
- Respond to requests for information from member
2. Service and coordinate the different branches of the network
- Service the Board of Trustees including arranging meetings, preparing papers and taking minutes
- Organise and minute Advisory Group and Chairs of Working Group meetings
- Ensure communications and updates are shared between different branches of the network including reporting to the Board on Working Group activities
- Administer annual planning processes
3. Manage the administration of the Secretariat
- Manage GADN volunteers
- Keep all HR and other files and records in order
- Maintain internal communications systems (email, calendars, document sharing, team meetings)
- Manage the GADN data protection processes
- Provide administrative support to the Director
- Manage the monitoring and evaluation processes of the network
- Ensure all legal reporting requirements are met
4. Administer the network’s finances and funding
- Manage the finances and accounts, including monthly updates of the cashbook and quarterly budget updates
- Complete all required financial reports and file tax returns
- Administer annual membership subscriptions
- Administer all grants including sending invoices and reports and monitoring sub-grantees
- Support the Director in identifying and securing grant funding
5. Support the communications and policy work of the Secretariat
- Maintain and update the website and social media
- Produce the GADN’s Annual Report
- Coordinate the production and dissemination of GADN briefings and policy reports
- Work with the Director and Policy Manger to liaise with external stakeholders including government officials and Women’s Rights Organisations
- Respond to enquiries from decision makers and the wider development sector
6. Other
- Undertake any other reasonable task as needed

Role and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Fundraising Coordinator will be responsible for developing and overseeing RFUK’s fundraising strategy and developing our partnerships with institutional donors, trusts and foundations, ethical corporates, and individual givers.
Fundraising strategy and management:
- Develop and update RFUK’s fundraising strategy (cost-benefit analysis of different funding streams, preparation and execution of plans etc.).
- Ensure proper planning and coordination of the fundraising activities, including preparation of annual workplans.
- Work with the Executive Director and the Finance Manager to set appropriate annual organizational income and expenditure budgets and targets.
- Monitor unrestricted fundraising income and expenditure and provide regular reports and projections for the ED, Finance Manager and Board of Trustees as required.

Corporates, trusts & foundations:
- Devise and implement strategies for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, identifying growth areas and opportunities within the ethical corporate sector.
- Research, identify and cultivate relationships with current and prospective companies, trusts and foundations, including the preparation of narrative/financial proposals and presentations.
- Represent RFUK at a range of events and functions with the aim of building relationships with potential donors.

Programmes fundraising:
In coordination with the Head of Programmes:
- Lead on prospect research, cultivation and networking, in collaboration with relevant programmes staff.
- Support the development of funding applications where required.
- Advise on the technical content of the proposals, ensuring they meet donor expectations and maximising chances of success.
- Participate in the Programmes fundraising working group.
Public outreach:
- Develop and cultivate our regular giving pool: managing recruitment, retention and conversion to regular donors.
- With the Communications Coordinator, develop a digital marketing strategy to build our supporter base and extend our brand.
- Manage supporter appeals including the summer appeal and the Big Give Challenge.
- Develop plans for high net-worth individuals, legacy giving, schools outreach and events.
- Management of fundraising volunteers as required.
PROFILE AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and experience
Essential:
- At least 4 years of managerial experience in charity fundraising, preferably in an international development context
- Demonstrable achievements in securing large grants and increasing individual giving and other revenue streams
- Excellent communications skills, able to produce high-quality, publication standard materials
- Ability to write compelling fundraising materials
- Ability to build trusting relationships with a range of different interest groups in support of our mission
- Strong organisational skills including the development and monitoring of large-scale budgets and workplans
- Ability to lead strategic thinking and development
- Competency in Microsoft office programmes

SUMMARY, TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The post is offered on a 2-year fixed term contract with possibility of extension. The role will be subject to a 6-month probationary period.
The post is a full-time position, based on a 35-hour working week in our North London office. Flexible working arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates and in line with our staff handbook.
The starting salary is £32,651 - £38,063 gross per annum, depending on experience.
Monthly salary is paid by Bank Automated Credit transfer, on the 25th of every month.
Holidays, sick pay and other benefits are provided in accordance with statutory requirements. 30 days paid leave per year are offered.
