My client is a healthcare charity that supports a specialist hospital. As part of the organisation’s ongoing growth plans, they are currently in the process of improving the strength in their financial accounting team and improving their financial systems. This has led to a need to recruit a financial accountant in support of this ambitious plan. As the financial accountant you will work closely with the wider team a well as the finance business partner and head of finance to work on process improvement, and drive the charity forward.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for timely year end process and preparation of the annual consolidated statutory financial and lead statements, including liaising with the charity’s auditors and dealing with audit queries

About the role
Reporting into the Finance Manager (Systems and Controls), you will be a key member of the team and the lead officer for the management, maintenance, development and improvement of the Council’s Financial Systems. You will be responsible for the team that deals with all transactional services (accounts payable, accounts receivable and income allocation), reconciliations of these areas, and debtor monitoring. This includes cash handling and income allocation and BACS processing for the Council.
About you
You will be educated to degree level, or with relevant experience of working within this environment. Ideally, you will be a member of an appropriate professional body (CCAB) or be able to strongly evidence equivalent professional experience and be working towards fully qualified status. Previous experience of supporting the closure of accounts process for a large multi-disciplinary organisation to enable the production of compliant Statutory Statement of Accounts is also required for this post.

The Senior Accountant (Financial Control) post can be based in either the London or Manchester office. This role is in the central Financial Accounting and Control Team (FACT). The Financial Controller will report into the Bursar and be responsible for for the whole of the School’s day-to-day accounting function to ensure effective procedures and robust controls are in place for all aspects of the function.
The organisation:
Situated in the heart of the City of London, at the East side of the Cathdral, the School enjoys state-of-the-art facilities for academic work, music, performing arts and sport in a single-site campus. There are 84 members of staff, comprising teachers, teaching assistants, music instructors and a support team.
The role:
- Assist the Bursar to seek commercial income opportunities and monitor and advise on school investments through liaison with external investment managers.
- Deputise for the Bursar in all finance matters and at governor committees, or at SLT meetings when requested by the Head.
- Support the Bursar’s financial and audit responsibility.

The successful candidate will be:
- A fully qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) or at Finalist level.
- Experienced in budgeting, forecasting and producing management accounts.
- A fantastic communicator.
- Experienced in developing and implementing financial systems and internal controls.
- Confident assisting with annual audits and in the preparing of annual accounts.
This position will be based officially at the head office in central London next to St Pauls Cathedral and will require the postholder to work from the office with occasional hybrid working. About the role
With an income of over 31 million pounds last year, the work of our Finance Team is vital in supporting the wider organisation and enabling us to put our funds to the best possible use.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, and with management responsibly for a team of five, you will ensure all financial information, systems and controls are of the highest integrity and that we remain compliant with all finance related legislation and best practice. You will oversee the processing of income and expenditure, seeking efficiencies and ensuring our processes support compliance with our policies. You will collaborate and build relationships with teams across the organisation, advising both finance and non-finance staff on taxation and other technical issues, and developing finance skills and confidence across the organisation.
You will take primary responsibility for producing our annual accounts and other statutory returns. You will lead relationships with a range of external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisers and our bankers.

The role may be for you if:
- You are qualified with a recognised accounting qualification or substantial experience, having detailed technical knowledge of financial accounting, VAT and financial controls.
- You are an experienced line manager looking to step up into a senior financial management position in an exciting organisation.
- You have the skills to operate in a modern digital workplace, with a good understanding of financial software and systems, and experience of embracing new digital tools to foster collaboration and enhanced productivity.
- You enjoy communicating complex financial information both in statutory accounts and regulatory returns, and to stakeholders who may not have a strong financial background.
