Job Description

Job Title: Fundraising and Marketing Manager.

Location: London (Marylebone).

Hiring Date: From January 4th 2021 (Initial 12 month contract with the possibility of renewal)

Reports to: Michael Rivera King, Director of Ashinaga UK.

Supervising: Partnerships and Philanthropy Coordinator (part-time) & Grants and Fundraising Coordinator (part-time).

Salary: £32,000 - £38,000 dependent on candidate’s experience (includes London weighting and commuting allowance).

Pension: You will be enrolled in our Personal Pension Scheme and Ashinaga UK will match your contributions by up to 8% of your basic salary.

Deadline for applications: November 1st 2020.

Holiday allowance: 24 days per annum (pro-rata - in addition to public holidays).

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Ashinaga Association in the UK is currently financially supported by the Ashinaga Foundation, with the aim that we become financially self-sufficient. The Fundraising and Marketing (F&M) Manager is tasked with further developing the strategy to achieve this and executing this transition. They will be supported in this by two part-time fundraising coordinators and the director.

For Fundraising, the F&M Manager is responsible for leading on the further development and implementation of Ashinaga UK’s annual fundraising strategy. They are expected to: undertake proactive, responsive and accurate research on prospects and potential sources of funding; develop and cultivate relationships with companies, major donors, trusts, foundations and other individuals or organisations who may support our work; assist with writing, coordination and submission of funding applications to donors; plan and implement fundraising campaigns; and meet fundraising targets.

For Marketing, the F&M Manager will lead on the development of Ashinaga UK’s marketing campaigns; manage and promote Ashinaga UK through various platforms (website, email, social media, traditional media, print); represent Ashinaga UK at events; and design and market Ashinaga UK’s events across the year. This will involve working closely with the ‘Student Relations and Programming Team’ to ensure student engagement in this work.

The F&M Manager is also expected to support the office and program as is required.

Minimum required qualifications, experience, skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree or above.
  • Native level of English.
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • A proven track record of fundraising, with a minimum of 5 years of experience. 
  • Experience scaling up a smaller charity or transitioning from a single donor by building a donor base.
  • Experience of proactively researching and engaging current and prospective funders.
  • Experience leading marketing campaigns working through various social media platforms and traditional forms of media.
  • Strong IT skills (Salesforce CRM, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and good attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and presentation abilities.
  • Proven experience of thinking, developing and delivering ‘strategically’.
  • Capable of organising, prioritising, and multi-tasking independently.

Desired:

  • Experience of working with educational programmes or a demonstrated passion for widening access to education.
  • Experience developing relationships with members of senior management (such as directors or trustees).
  • Experience of working with programmes related to sub-Saharan Africa or a demonstrated passion for the development of this region.
  • Experience with Google Ads and paid for social media services.
  • Proficiency in Japanese, French, Portuguese, Kiswahili or other major African languages.
  • Experience of managing a small team.
  • Cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible with work priorities. 

Notice period:

The fundraising and marketing manager can terminate their employment by giving one month’s written notice though where possible we would prefer two months’ notice as it ensures a smooth transition.
