Job description

The Coach Core Foundation is an employment and education charity that uses a community sports apprenticeship to target NEET 16+ year olds and have them not only change their future pathways but also become a positive coaching influence in communities that need the provision most.  By positioning ourselves as the springboard into a new career pathway, we are able to work with young people, employers and sector partners from around the UK to ensure we create a truly impactful programme offer for all involved.

We now embark on the next chapter of our journey with a strategic goal to grow the charity so that we can transition successfully whilst also furthering our reputation as the sectors most successful ‘bridge back into employment/education’ apprenticeship programme.  Our ultimate goal is to grow and bring the multiple, long term programme benefits to more young people, employers and communities around the UK.

We are now hiring a Head of Business Development to support the charity to move from ‘site by site’ funding strategies to a longer term, cross sector approach that will ultimately ensure even greater sustainability for our programmes and operations. 

Encompassing a wide range of responsibilities at a very exciting stage on our journey, the principal duties will include:

  • introducing/curating/developing new and diverse means of income into the charity to include (but not limited to): corporate-CSR, trusts and foundations, public funding, sector specific funding, high net worths;

  • managing new and existing partner relationships and the processes/reporting that accompany this;

  • overseeing the impact and data management that evidences the great work we are doing;

  • support the CEO and the Board with the overall executive leadership, strategy and governance as we enter this new expansive phase;

  • work innovatively and proactively to identify new opportunities or boost existing ways of working that will raise our profile alongside the ongoing fundraising activities e.g. events, harnessing key partnerships, etc.

  • brand savvy, you will help the charity market and position itself as one of the leading organisations in our field both to the intended audience but also to key partners, supporters and the wider public.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week), permanent role with a salary of £50,000 - £60,000 per annum. The role is based at The Kia Oval, Kennington, London but with frequent UK travel

Educated to degree/apprenticeship L5+ standard, we are seeking an experienced, highly ambitious individual who will thrive in an atmosphere of no day being the same but can always remain focussed and accountable. 

Key requirements and characteristics include:

  • A true advocate for sport for change and physical activity and the benefits it can have across society;

  • Exceptional business development experience, showing a proven track record of bringing multiple, diverse income streams into your organisation/s to date;

  • High quality communicator and networker already firmly embedded within the fundraising/business development network;

  • We would also like to see candidates display a good experience and knowledge base of the public and charitable sector as we seek to drive ever more into Government policy and department working;

  • Proven bid writer and demonstrable ability to evidence the impact of the funding attracted;

  • Ideally already experienced at leading and managing staff to help you achieve your goals but ready to ‘lead from the front’ on a number of duties at all times at this key stage in the charity’s development;

  • Preferred (but not essential) experience of apprenticeships and the education sector;

  • Strong decision maker with a high level of standards for themselves and those around them;

  • Will suit proactive individuals who will embrace the exciting nature of our project working in a number of locations at varying times;

  • Will require an individual comfortable working, communicating and reporting digitally;

  • Preferred (but not essential) UK driving licence and access to their own vehicle.

Relationships (Internal & external)

  • Coach Core staff, trustees and any other key individuals linked directly to our charity;

  • The Coach Core employers and their apprentices;

  • Our educational providers;

  • Donors, funders and/or individuals critical to the support of our project;

  • Key sporting organisations and governance;

  • Like minded and linked organisations from the charity/sports for change sector;

  • Sporting ambassadors and The Royal Foundation/Royal Household when required.
