Job description
Are you enthusiastic and positive and enjoy bringing a group of people together through activities and songs?
Do you have skill and experience with working with people affected by dementia to engage them in group situations? 
Join us as a Group Facilitator to provide a range of vibrant, supportive groups to our service users!  

It is an exciting time to join Alzheimer's Society and the Group Facilitator role will ensure people affected by dementia are able to meet others in a similar situation, access the support they need whilst enjoying meaningful and often exciting activities. 
 
Salary: £22789 - £24177 per annum (pro rata for 21 hours)
Hours: 21 per week
Location: Devon (community based) with some elements of home-working.

About the role

Our local groups are Memory Cafes in Bovey Tracey and Kingsbridge and Singing for the Brain groups in Exmouth and Dawlish, as well as an online Peer Support group. Several groups are well established, but others require developing and promoting to reach a wider number of people. The successful candidate will be managing a supportive and experienced team of dedicated volunteers and managing our relationship with our Singing facilitators.

- To setup, promote, establish, organise and facilitate or deliver group(s) and ensure that all attending are supported to fully engage in the session. 
- To recruit and role manage volunteers that the volunteers have clarity about their roles and undertake appropriate training. 
- To be receptive to the views and feedback of service users during development of the group and when seeking to plan, develop and design future groups, taking into account the individual needs of members of the group 
- To assist the service users to feel welcome and to understand the aims and benefit of the group(s), and ensure all new attendees are provided with information about the group 
- Proactively support an inclusive and welcoming working environment where all colleagues and volunteers and people we support feel able to be themselves. 

About you

We are looking for a compassionate, supportive person with a good understanding of dementia and how it impacts both the person with the diagnosis and the carer. Our role requires excellent communication skills to engage people in group activities, ensuring the person with dementia can fully participate as well as the carer.

- Understanding the importance of volunteers in group services is essential, plus the ability to role manage volunteers to support them in their role.
- Good knowledge of dementia and an understanding of the needs of people with dementia and their carers
- Experience of co-ordinating volunteers
- Have excellent computer skills are required to facilitate virtual groups, and to complete accurate records on the computer system.
- Have the ability to travel independently to the locations the service covers.
