The purpose of your role is to lead the Fundraising, Events and Comms department, one of the Nightline Association’s seven departments. Each department contains a number of volunteer teams, each led by a Team Lead.
The Fundraising, Events, and Comms department is responsible for the charity’s income, events such as conferences and panel discussions, supporting training and marketing the organisation to potential funders, volunteers, students and higher education institutions. The purpose of each of the individual teams is outlined below:

Comms and Marketing Team: responsible for developing and managing the Nightline Association brand, social media, and associated publicity strategies to increase awareness, understanding and consideration of our work, values and vision.

Fundraising Team: responsible for managing and developing a sustainable fundraising strategy and growing Nightline Association’s annual income through trust, corporate, and community fundraising.

Events Team: responsible for managing events within the Nightline Association, and collaborative events with Nightlines.

Activities and Responsibilities
Department Management

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is the national charity and membership association for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants.
We help all wounded servicemen and women who have lost limbs, the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.
We are looking for a Volunteer to help the Fundraising Team with office tasks. You will be providing practical, administrative and research support across the team. Commitment

Overview
Katharine House Hospice provides specialist palliative care for adults in Oxfordshire, South Northamptonshire and South Warwickshire. The hospice is in Adderbury, Oxfordshire, and is the base for all activity, which includes an Inpatient Unit; a team of community nurses, who care for our patients in their homes; a LivingWell service for those that are living with life-limiting conditions and a bereavement service for family and friends after the death of a loved one.
In 2021, after an extended review period, a formal agreement was entered into with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH). This transferred the provision of the clinical services to the OUH under a contractual arrangement, requiring the charity to grant-fund the activity. This was done to secure the future of the palliative and end-of-life service for our community, in the face of rising costs and an unpredictable philanthropic environment.
Governance
Katharine House Hospice is governed by a Board of Trustees who are responsible for the strategic direction of the hospice as well as ensuring it meets its regulatory requirements.
Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the hospice is delegated to the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team.
Trustee Board meetings take place every three months. The work of the Board is supported by the following committees:
• Finance, Audit & Risk
• Income Generation & Marketing
• General Management
Trustees are also expected to act as ambassadors for the hospice and may be asked to represent it at fundraising and community events.
Trustees are appointed for a fixed term of three years, and normally serve two terms, but a third term may be served by mutual agreement.
Trustees make a significant contribution to the running of Katharine House Hospice. Through the diversity of their knowledge, skills and experience, as well as the time they give freely, they play a key role in enabling the charity to achieve its aims of ensuring al those affected by life-limiting conditions receive the support and care they need.
For a Trustee with a specific professional specialism of fundraising, the task would be to work to develop a positive and supportive relationship with the Head of Fundraising and Head of Retail. The Board would look to this individual to help to assure them that the Senior Leadership Team are reaching the right balance between stretching income targets and realistic results when budgeting, setting sensible expenditure budgets and achieving ROls that are appropriate.

The role of the Board of Trustees
The Trustees (or 'Board members') are trustees of the charity and directors of the limited company. They are responsible for the governance, setting the strategic direction and monitoring the implementation of the strategy. Human Resources (HR) - This person will have experience in working in HR roles, preferably in the voluntary sector. Psychotherapy /working in a trauma informed setting – As an organisation providing psychotherapy and arts therapies for autistic people and people with learning disabilities, we are looking for a trustee with experience of working as a therapist with a systems-psychodynamic approach.
The Board wants to ensure that the charity's 'beneficiaries' are represented in its governance. Time requirement - What is involved?
Trustees attend eight Board meetings per year approximately every six-eight weeks currently on a Tuesday evening 5:30pm to 8pm. Meetings are in London, and remote access is available for trustees who live/work outside London.
Each Trustee is expected to be an active member of the Respond community, committing 5 to 10 hours per month to the charity which may also involve being on a sub-committee such as; Finance Committee, Clinical Governance and Safeguarding Committee each of which meets four times per year, typically during normal office hours online or in London.
Trustees are expected to attend an induction session at Respond prior to their first Board meeting. Trustees are expected to attend all Board meetings. Other meetings are away-days over a weekend.
Trustees are invited to the annual general meeting, which takes place typically in November.
Trustees may claim expenses incurred in effectively carrying out their duties, in accordance with Respond’s Trustee Expenses Policy.
Papers are distributed one week in advance of meetings. In addition, Trustees are expected to review documents and communicate with other board members and senior staff between meetings. Every effort will be made to ensure that trustees with learning disabilities or who are neurodiverse have access to documents in formats that they can understand or have the support available for them to fully participate as trustees.

- Providing assurance to the Board that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs, and recommending corrective action where this is not the case.

The Treasurer also Chairs the finance and fundraising sub-group. FFSG is a principal group of the Staying Put board. Its principal objective is to assist the board to fulfil their functions by providing timely advice on areas within its remit. It is responsible for reviewing and overseeing the management and strategy of all finance and fundraising matters of the Staying Put group and includes the areas of audit and organisational risk.

Role Summary
We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who will offer strategic and supportive leadership to our highly effective, collaborative and committed Board. The Chair leads the board, ensuring that it governs the charity effectively, in service of the charity's vision and mission. The Chair leads in an inclusive way, supporting the Board to work together well, and providing support and challenge to the Chief Executive. The Chair is also an ambassador for the charity.
Chair role & responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership to the charity and the Board, ensuring that Glass Door achieves its mission with the interests of Glass Door's guests at its centre.
Work collaboratively with the CEO, staff and volunteers to achieve our mission and optimise the relationship between the Board and Glass Doors's staff and volunteers.
Provide leadership within the Board, ensuring that it fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation and promoting governance among fellow Trustees, providing clarity around boundaries between governance, management and operations.
Plan and chair the bi-monthly board meetings and the AGM, with colleagues as appropriate and liaise with the CEO, Company Secretary and Governance Trustee with regard to setting up meetings, agenda items and annual report content.
Facilitate meetings ensuring all have equal involvement in discussions, clarifying any uncertainties, confirming decisions made and actions to be taken and ensuring effective time management of meetings whilst providing appropriate periods of discussion and reflection.
Act as a spokesperson and figurehead for Glass Door when required.
Support Glass Door functions and events eg attendance at supporter events.
Support the Head of Fundraising & Major Donors with the cultivation of high-level donors, occassionally attending meetings where value can be added.
Represent the Board at staff Town Hall meetings.
Support the team liaising with partner churches and statutory authorities as required and be the public face of Glass Door in the local community.
Liaise with the CEO and he Board to keep an overview of the charity's affairs.
Provide supervision and support to the CEO as necessary in addition to planned monthly/bi-monthly 'catch up' meetings and, with the People Trustee, lead the CEO's annual performance review.
To act as final stage adjudicator for disciplinary and grievance procedures if required.
What we are looking for
Experience of being a Trustee, ideally in the third sector, and an understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a Trustee/Director.
A keen sense of strategic purpose.
Strong leadership skills, able to foster and promote a collaborative team environment and an inclusive and collaborative leadership style; able to inspire and support everyone to participate on an equal footing.
An ability to facilitate, mediate, influence and respect the confidences of colleagues. The ability to listen and engage effectively. You are comfortable with challenge and debate and are able to encourage that in others whilst fostering a collaborative board environment.

What does the role of WWOOF Trustee involve?
- coming to a maximum of three face-to-face meetings per year with fellow Trustees and WWOOF staff (assuming you are UK based). These could be anywhere in the country but to give an idea, previously there has been one overnight meeting in March in Buckinghamshire, a one-day meeting in July in Birmingham and a one-day AGM in autumn which moves around the country. This pattern of meetings may change in future but it’s very unlikely the frequency of face-to-face meetings would increase.
- attending monthly video calls with fellow Trustees (currently the 2nd Monday of the month, 6pm – 7.30pm)
- responding regularly and promptly to email and acting on tasks you’ve volunteered to do
- being prepared, according to expertise and interest, to take lead responsibility for guiding and advising on particular aspects of WWOOF UK’s organisation and activity (e.g. finance, IT, publicity, legal etc.)
- keeping up to date with WWOOF UK developments by reading and contributing to documents (usually via email and Google Drive)
- Being aware of wider developments (e.g. government policy changes, financial climate, immigration legislation, environmental issues) that might impact on WWOOFing and WWOOF UK as an organisation

The opportunity
You will be joining Sustainability First at a critical time, when we are stepping up our ambition to drive change in the energy and water sectors in a way that benefits people and responds to the urgent need to transition to a more sustainable future. You will work collaboratively with our Executive Director in meeting our ambitions to scale our work, drive change across the sector and embed the representation of people into decision-making.
This will include six primary responsibilities:
1 Ensure that Sustainability First has a clear strategic direction aimed at fulfilling its charity objectives and that the Strategy is regularly reviewed.
2 Oversee the governance of the Charity with:
a. an effective, diverse and relevant Board of Trustees.
b. appropriate policies, processes & financial management such that the Charity operates within the law, in pursuit of its Strategy and demonstrating good practice.
c. regular and effective liaison, reporting and oversight of the Executive Director, Company Secretary and, as necessary, staff and panel of experts in order to ensure effective and proportionate planning, use of resources, monitoring and reporting by the Board of Trustees.
3 Set the agenda for and chair Board meetings to ensure engagement of, and discussion amongst Trustees based on the best possible information, input from the Executive Director and team, leading to clear and accountable decision-making.
4 Appoint, support and manage the Executive Director on behalf of the Board.
5 Ensure that the charity has an income generation strategy which is monitored and actively supported by trustees and Chair, in order to achieve the Board’s stated objective to build resilience and capacity for Sustainability First to successfully fulfil its charitable objects.
6 Represent the charity externally as required.
Skills
After many years of service to our charity, our current Chair is retiring. At a time of opportunity and challenge for our organisation, we’re looking for someone with a proven track record of leadership at board level, ideally in the UK charity sector. Your experience of running and growing a small but impactful organisation in a professional or voluntary capacity will be crucial to the work of our Board, dedicated staff and expert associates.
Not one to shy away from a challenge, you will draw on your experience of collegiate collaboration, positive decision-making and effective problem-solving to help ensure funding, organisational excellence, and ultimately environmental and social change.
PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR CHAIR
The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge/ skills/ experience in the following areas:
