Job description

Future Care Capital undertakes research to advocate new policy ideas and inject fresh thinking into the health and care agenda. Our aim is to stimulate a national debate and nurture collective intelligence or insight, in keeping with our mission and commitment to operate as an organisation that learns, thinks and does.

Alongside our research, policy and advocacy work, we invite partners to work with us to pilot new solutions and support innovative ventures in the course of delivering our charitable mission. We also want to act as a specialist seed funder and invest our own resources through an Innovation Fund.

To support the development of a new vision for health and care in England as well as positive change in practical local settings, our Head of Policy and Research will support the Director of Policy and Strategy to commission, manage and undertake leading edge-research; translate research outputs into evidence for policy makers, commissioners and providers and advocate pertinent solutions; pursue related funding opportunities and deliver impact from income generation activities in the interests of our beneficiaries.

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Strategy, key responsibilities will include:

Expert

  • To work closely with the Director and other colleagues to support the development of and contribute to Future Care Capital’s evidence-based policy work.
  • To develop and maintain mechanisms to keep abreast of research and policy developments relevant to health and care - national and international– with a particular emphasis upon data, technology, innovation, scaling and investment.
  • To draft parliamentary briefings and responses to government consultations and other public policy initiatives and work with colleagues to support monitoring of the outcome.
  • To contribute to research project design and coordination activities and support the Director and other colleagues in the conduct of research, thought piece and policy paper development for Future Care Capital.
  • To attend pertinent networking events, forge new relationships and present the findings from Future Care Capital’s evidence-based policy work to advocate pertinent solutions in the interests of our beneficiaries.
  • To support business development activities, identify and pursue funding and income generation opportunities pertinent to Future Care Capital’s priorities.
  • To support our public affairs and communications team by providing background information for press releases, material for our website and contributing to regular blogs and updates.
  • To support external events, roundtables and other training and education activities.

General

  • To work in line with the organisation’s strategy and vision – living and breathing FCC’s values.

Skills and Competencies:

Technical Competency (qualifications and training)

  • A first or upper 2nd class degree or equivalent experience. (E)
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development. (E)
  • Prior publication record. (D)

Experience

  • Experience in a policy role relevant to health and/or care and/or technology together with a demonstrable understanding of current key debates and priorities.
  • Experience of drafting a variety of written materials (e.g. briefings, reports and/or responses to government consultations).
  • Experience of managing contractors.
  • Experience of facilitating meetings with a range of stakeholders to identify issues, trends and collect information for developing evidence-based policy.
  • Demonstrable experience of research and policy project design and coordination activities.
  • Able to establish priorities and manage a complex workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience of working independently but seeking advice and working collaboratively with colleagues and others as required.

Skills

  • Ability to quickly develop an understanding of current and emerging themes and to ensure that these are taken into consideration in our work.
  • You will have strong analytical skills and the ability to analyse complex information and summarise key conclusions or recommendations. 
  • Good communication skills both oral and written, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective research and information gathering skills.
  • Good project management skills; ability to co-ordinate complex and multiple projects.
  • Creative skills for contributing new and innovative ideas.
