Responsibilities and Person Specification:
This role will form an integral part of our three person Policy and Public Affairs team based in Scotland, working as part of a UK-wide Policy and Influencing team. The role will drive forward our policy projects to reduce poverty in later life, conducting expert research and policy analysis and turning this into persuasive evidence to catch the attention of decision makers and persuaders. The postholder will create opportunities to amplify the voices of older people in poverty and work to secure support for our policy recommendations in Holyrood.
You will have strong research skills with experience of turning quantitative and qualitative data into high quality, persuasive policy outputs. You will have experience developing credible, evidence-based policy solutions, informed by the perspectives and insights of people with lived experience.
You will be a skilled verbal and written communicator with the ability to engage different audiences. You will build strategic relationships with a variety of stakeholders to advance the solutions needed to address poverty in later life, using your knowledge of the political landscape in Scotland and passion for our cause.

The Role

NEA’s Benefits Entitlements and Claims Support Officers are empathetic, polite and have good listening skills but are also knowledgeable, assertive, and confident. The post holder will be responsible for giving comprehensive benefit entitlement advice and support to householders. The post holder will obtain relevant information about a client’s circumstances and offer accurate guidance about potential eligibility for additional benefit entitlements. This will include the completion of application forms as appropriate. Advice will be given over the phone, via online contact and in face-to-face settings where appropriate.
What you will need to succeed
You will have a good understanding of Welfare Rights, including entitlements, systems, claim processes and current legislation and practices. Demonstrable experience of providing advice via telephone and face to face.
You will need good organisational skills, excellent communication skills as well as an understanding of the needs of low income, vulnerable or disadvantaged householders.

The successful candidate

We are recruiting for a Finance Officer. You’ll play a key role in our organisation, maintaining accurate and up to date financial accounting procedures and records, providing oversight to ensure effective financial controls are in place, improving and streamlining our financial processes and procedures, supporting our Finance Administrator and wider team. There is scope to learn and develop in this role, and to get involved in other aspects of the organisation that are a good fit for your strengths and interests.

We’re looking for a partial or fully qualified finance professional with practical experience, ideally in a UK charity environment. We use Xero and associated tools, so it’s helpful if you know that system – or have the ability to quickly pick it up. We’ve been on a journey to digitise and automate our finance processes over the past couple of years and we’re looking for someone who is keen to continue improving our processes. You’ll need to be detail-oriented and committed to making sure we follow our own policies and procedures, and act in accordance with relevant legislation. As Policy & Engagement Officer, you will work with the Hope for the Future team to:
- Act as constituents’ main point of contact at HFTF, working with them to effectively engage their elected representatives by supporting them through the constituent journey (including offering tailored advice, letter writing, meeting preparation and coaching, facilitation and follow-up).
- Prepare and deliver HFTF’s core training, contributing to its ongoing development.
- Develop constituent and partner-facing resources aimed at maximising political impact.
- Ensure work is aligned with our objectives and strategy to maximise efficiency and impact, linking and contributing to Hope for the Future’s central strategies and wider work as required. This includes our Councils, Faith and Outreach work.
- With the support of the Policy and Engagement Coordinator, contribute to effective objective setting in order to deliver HFTF’s strategy.
- Ensure the CRM is up to date and support monitoring, evaluation and reporting in relation to the team’s work.
- With the support of the Research and Impact Coordinator conduct research on elected representatives and other key figures in order to train and advise constituents on how to best engage with them.
- Identify and build relationships with local and regional partner organisations and communities to engage new constituents, to help ensure that we are working towards reaching and representing all sectors of society.
- Provide support to other team members where required in both organising and delivery of events and projects.
- Provide support to other team members with income generation activities where required.
- Able to travel around the UK frequently to support constituents and partner organisations, attend workshops and deliver training. For remotely based staff, occasional attendance at HFTF premises may also be required for supervision, development or team-building purposes, etc.
- Take the lead on thematic and project work as allocated by Hope for the Future, (e.g. Scotland focus, housing focus) and help to upskill the rest of the team on these topics. ● Contribute to the continued development of HFTF’s training and approach
- Support the Policy and Engagement Coordinator to identify and develop opportunities for growing the organisation's reach and impact.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of climate change and nature loss/ degradation developments in Parliament, including changes to policy and specific MP involvement in such developments.
- Actively seek to engage with new constituents and support our work towards reaching and representing all sectors of society.
- Support the Fundraising Officer in producing case studies and information on the impact of our work for inclusion in funding bids

As Executive Support Officer, you will provide executive support in a one-on-one working relationship, undertake a variety of special projects for the CEO, working independently from conception to completion.

Core responsibilities

- Undertake a variety of special projects for the CEO, some of which may have organisational impact.
- Independently gather research for the CEO and translate the findings into completed written and visual reports.
- Undertake data analysis where needed.
- Lead on the end-to-end project management of projects from the CEO.

- Anticipate the CEO’s needs and exercise judgement based on those needs understanding the politics of a situation and understanding how the organisation functions.
- Ensure the timely preparation and delivery of all briefing information and preparing papers and presentations required by the CEO.
- When required, take accurate notes of meetings, ensuring that matters arising are dealt with by the appropriate person within agreed timescales.
- To undertake other appropriate duties and responsibilities as required from time to time.
Essential skills:
- Administration experience
- The ability to proactively manage and coordinate conflicting priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
- Handling sensitive situations, recognising confidential issues and dealing with them appropriately
- Attention to detail, good organisational and administrative skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear correspondence, minutes, reports and briefing papers
- Highly developed IT skills with the ability to use a variety of computer systems, and proficient in Microsoft Office applications

About the role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our bank as a Welfare Officer, providing cover as required for the SSAFA RAF Service across the UK.
Our Bank Welfare Officers will provide direct and impactful welfare support to RAF personnel and their immediate family on an ad hoc basis when a full-time member of the team is unavailable to do so.
As a trusted and confidential source of support, you will assist our service users with challenges they are facing, from mental ill-health, difficult relationships, domestic abuse, financial and cost-of-living concerns, resettlement, housing, childcare, equality issues, bereavement, military discharge or deployment and many more - no day will be the same, as such this is a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the Welfare sector.
Our intervention is provided with consent on a non-statutory basis, and you will work with and engage our service users to develop appropriate interventions for individual outcomes.
Our service is transitioning to become more accessible and inclusive, digital technology plays a key role in this, as such you may be asked to use digital technologies to complement and enhance processes and service user experience.
You will work closely with RAF welfare teams, local authorities, health, education, civilian agencies, charities and other military organisations to ensure the best outcome for the service user.

About you
To thrive in this role you will have relevant experience of supporting adults, families and children/young people. You will be able to take a flexible and creative approach to problem solving. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to deliver presentations with confidence.
You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.
It would be advantageous if you have experience of carrying out assessments, preparing plans, monitoring and reviewing outcomes.
There will be some travel required and therefore you will need to be able to drive, have access to your own car and be flexible to spend nights away from home occasionally within the UK at short notice..
