Thousands of people come through the doors of Addenbrooke's every day. We need your help to raise awareness of how people can support cancer services across Addenbrooke's.

As an ACT Information Hub Volunteer, you will be the face of ACT. You'll be based on our Hospital Hub in the Outpatients department, talking to people about our charity, and raising awareness of the different ways that they can get involved.

You will be friendly, enjoy talking to a wide range of people and passionate about supporting Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals.

You will be joining a growing, friendly volunteer team and the time you give will make a real difference to people's lives.

Training for the role will be provided as well as ongoing support. We are looking for volunteers to give their time on a weekday with an aim of volunteering for a minimum of 6 months.

We will cover travel expenses and provide a reference after two months in the team.

Do you have experience of using assistive and accessible technology? We'd love you to volunteer monthly at Cleethorpes library, to help local people with sight loss become independent technology users and enjoy the benefits of being online. Role Description:

This role sits within our new mental health Prevention Hub - which is a drop-in service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed, seeking support and advice for their mental health, there and then. This service is a 9 month pilot project and will initially operate 11am-7pm Monday-Friday, however there may be a need to cover weekends/late nights, depending on the need of our clients.

Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health distress. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The aim of this service is to de-escalate, and provide holistic wellbeing plans.

We are looking for someone who

• Has lived experience of mental health challenges
• Are a non-judgemental and friendly individual
• To be able to provide a welcoming, authentic, and positive experience for all, being inclusive and embracing diversity
• To feel comfortable engaging with people with mental health challenges / difficult life experiences, by validating strengths and experiences and using empowering language to overcome negative self-talk
• Are empathic and understands the stigma / social bias's surrounding mental health
• Are willing to tap into their lived experiences and use their stories to inspire hope in others when appropriate
• Are comfortable with co-producing and co-facilitating peer led workshops
• To assist the Prevention Hub Coordinator with admin and planning
• Are able to take on any ad hoc admin/support responsibilities

Time commitment and expenses:

• Flexible hours between 11am-7pm Monday-Friday. We are looking for someone to commit to a minimum of at least 1 /2 days a week.
• We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role
• Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The Community Hub provides a unique environment for anyone affected by terminal illness to access Marie Curie’s expert Information and to learn about the support the charity provides, we are looking for volunteers who will be able to signpost people towards these Marie Curie services. 

It is also a space for small fairs and stall events to support local businesses in the community, as well as hosting events such as drop in carers cafes which provides the opportunity for carers to meet in a friendly setting and chat over a cuppa.

We are looking for volunteers to help with supporting the organisation and delivery of activities in the Community Hub and assisting members of the public in finding the support and information they need via our in-house Support Line space. 

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
Welcome and chat to customers; offering a listening ear to those looking for support and or information 
Signposting individuals to Information and Support services as appropriate
Support the organisation and delivery of community activities in the hub’s community space
Raising awareness and promoting hub activities outside of the hub environment
Support with scheduling the different events hosted in the hub
Support with the marketing of the hub and its calendar of events
Community engagement and building relationships locally

Wellbeing Volunteer

Wellbeing volunteers are vital within the Wellbeing Network, in supporting people living with terminal illness, their families, and carers.

As we will soon be opening the doors of our new Herriot Hospice@the Lambert in Thirsk, we are looking to expand the number of Wellbeing volunteers to reach more people. The roles are varied and bespoke, to support the needs of individuals providing reliable social and emotional support to people wherever they need it. 

Volunteer roles are designed to support both the patient or client, and their carer to live as well as they can with a terminal diagnosis.

Role Description   

Through volunteering your time at Saint Michael’s and Herriot Hospice Homecare you are supporting those in our community at a time when they need it most.  Volunteers are integral to our work; and we would love to welcome you to our team.

Wellbeing volunteer roles are delivered as below, however if you have a particular skill that you feel would support us, please get in touch.

• The Community Hub at The Lambert – our newest addition to our volunteer roles, providing support to patients, their families and anyone else that comes in, signposting to our services and offering a listening ear. This role will also work closely with the Food and Nutrition team in the hub.
• Sitting - simply staying with the patient, providing respite and empowering their carer to get out for a walk, appointments, or meeting friends.
• Befriending - simply being there, listening, supporting with isolation, accompanying the individual with their support networks in the community, going for a walk.
• Driving – to offer a short drive to medical appointments and to social groups , to pick up prescriptions for the inpatient unit .
• Groups – The Wellbeing Network has a range of social groups to offer the opportunity for people to come together to provide each other with social and emotional support.  Volunteers are to welcome individuals, offer refreshments and a listening ear and support the wider team with collecting feedback about the support received.
• IPU – Volunteers to visit patients on the inpatient unit and offer some companionship, reading to patients, sitting with them to provide reassurance, or helping with activities.
• Armed Forces - The service also provides befriending support to veterans who have served in the Armed Forces.

Volunteering should be a mutually beneficial role, and we believe that consistency is important, so we hope volunteers will be able to support for 2-4 hours per week in whichever role you want to support in – we welcome applicants who want to combine different roles!

1. Key Tasks

• Offering companionship and social support either in person or on the telephone.
• Accompanying the person on a walk or other social activity, for example visit a café.
• Support the person with an activity like shopping, carry out some gardening or a light household task.
• Driving someone to an appointment, for example a medical appointment.
• Sitting with a person with a terminal diagnosis to allow their family member or carer to leave the house for a short period or time, for example to allow them to go shopping, attend a medical appointment, have a break or another essential appointment.
• We will ask for feedback about the service and this will be in the form of questionnaires for the client, carer and volunteer this will enable us to plan any further developments to the service.

NB:  volunteers may use their own vehicles where appropriate – after notifying their insurance provider and providing a copy of their driving licence

Tasks are not to include (more detail will be given during the training programme):

• Assisting the person whilst they are using the toilet, dressing, showering (this is considered personal care)
• Giving the person their medication or assisting with their oxygen
• Nursing tasks

It is essential that volunteers adhere to the role description, undertake appropriate tasks only and are clear about the boundaries of this role. If volunteers are unsure about any task they have been asked to carry out, they should contact their line manager for advice. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of both clients and volunteers.

Listening volunteers are there for anyone who needs support. By giving a few hours a week to speak to someone in distress, you can change the course of someone's life. At Bradford Samaritans Hub, we provide vital emotional support to those going through difficult times. Our non-judgmental and confidential service is available 24/7, allowing individuals to talk openly about their feelings, thoughts, and concerns. We need volunteers to help us sell donated items online by taking pictures, researching the product online, writing a clear description, and uploading the listing to sites like eBay, Vinted, and DePop. 

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, and you will receive full training and support, as well as agreed out-of-pocket expenses (reimbursed within our guidelines).

At Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, we are dedicated to providing free, high quality, compassionate care and support for people with terminal illnesses, their families and their professional carers.

We provide holistic care that goes beyond physical needs – offering spiritual, social and psychological care, advice and support wherever needed. We also support and educate healthcare professionals to deliver high quality, individualised and co-ordinated care to people with all terminal illnesses.

We receive only around a third of our funding from the NHS. That means we need to fundraise £5m every year from local people, businesses and organisations to continue to fund our services.

People with a learning disability or additional needs are often isolated and excluded from mainstream leisure and social activities. We believe that EVERYONE has the right to have fun and feel safe.

Our organised activity groups give people with additional needs the chance to make friends, enjoy social time together and try out a variety of activities.  These fun and friendly groups also help to improve physical health and mental wellbeing.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers for our amazing music, drama and dance groups in Weoley Castle. You will be encouraging our citizens to take part and ensure everyone has a great time.

One25 is a Bristol-based charity, specialising in supporting women to break free from street sex-work, addiction and other life-controlling issues and build new, independent lives. We provide night outreach (7 sessions weekly), a Health Hub and casework, giving person-centred support and advocacy to around 240 women each year.

One25’s outreach service is often how women first make contact with us, meeting us on our fully equipped outreach van.  Three volunteers, one an experienced team leader, go out on the van at night and meet women’s basic needs by providing nutritious food, first aid, warm clothing, condoms, safety alarms etc. They provide the chance to talk and get advice in a safe space and encourage women to get more in-depth help by visiting our Health Hub or seeing a caseworker. 

We are looking for volunteers to join our accelerated pathway to becoming a Van Team Leader. This pilot project will be for people who have professional experience in the following areas: 

• Domestic abuse
• Sexual violence
• Drug and alcohol
• Homelessness
• Social care
• Physical Health
• Mental health
• Prison service 

The project will aim to train volunteers up into Team Leaders within 6 months. This will consist of fortnightly van shifts and monthly training forums, and frequent mentorship from the Volunteer Manager.

Upon completion of the programme Team Leaders will be able to reduce their commitment to monthly van outreach shifts and quarterly training/meetings, with the expectation that Team Leaders will continue as a volunteering for more than 2 – 3 years (24/36 shifts). 

It is an Occupational Requirement that applications for this post are open to women only, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010. Enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.

We are seeking a reliable individual (or individuals to share the role) to assist us in supporting our teams of volunteers who work across our three projects: FareShare Greater Manchester, EMERGE Recycling and Touch Wood, as well as our parent charity, EMERGE 3Rs.

With your organisational skills, you’ll assist the Volunteer Management Team in the administration of our volunteer programmes and help us with the day-to-day operation of the office.
This position presents an excellent opportunity to gain valuable transferable skills that can be deployed across a wide range of working roles in future. 

This role is shared between several volunteers; each covering different shifts, so we have flexibility in accommodating what hours you are able to offer us.

ABOUT EMERGE

We operate three initiatives:

* FareShare Great Manchester - the regional hub of national charity FareShare UK, which redistributes overstocked food to community initiatives and food banks, diverting it from polluting landfill

* Touch Wood - our reclaimed wood workshop, which takes wood destined for landfill or incinerators and prepares it for resale or upcycles it into crafted items

* EMERGE Recycling - a pioneering recycling social enterprise

The volunteer administration support role is one of the broadest ranging opportunities we have on offer; being a blend of many working practices, from general administration to assisting with recruitment. You will be working with a diverse range of individuals, from many different types of backgrounds and circumstances, so a friendly attitude and an interest in helping people are advantageous traits for applicants.

Typical tasks include:

If travelling to us by car, please be aware that many satnav systems wrongly direct drivers to the rear of the market site. Instead, please enter by the main gate on Whitworth Street East (off Ashton Old Road). There is plenty of free parking on site.

PURPOSE OF POST: To ensure the good governance of Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT)

HOURS: Evening Board Meetings of approximately 2 hours, 4 times per year with some additional commitments

SALARY: This is a voluntary role but reasonable expenses may be claimed

LOCATION: Meetings are normally held in SCT offices in Shoreditch (E1) or a

location near Liverpool Street Station (EC2)

ROLE FUNCTION: Charity Trustee - Finance experience is welcomed.

Spitalfields Crypt Trust (SCT) is an East London charity embedded in the local community, providing practical help, support and training to people affected by homelessness and addiction. We are passionate about the people and communities we support and embrace creative, innovative and inclusive ways of working that build on our collective strengths. We provide a Recovery Hub (including an abstinence-based residential recovery facility, an addictions counselling programme and a Training & Development Programme), supported houses, a Housing First service, community supports, charity shops and two social enterprises supporting people in recovery from addictions to rebuild their lives. Our integrative approach is based on the concept of ‘Recovery Capital’, a whole-person approach taking into account physical, cultural, social, human and spiritual factors and assets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Ensure the good governance of SCT in accordance with best practice

o Ensure with the Board and CEO that the charity’s Vision and strategic direction are aligned and consistent with the Charitable Objects as well as its operating environments

o Participate in Board meetings 4 times a year

o Use personal expertise to provide advice, assistance and guidance to the CEO as appropriate in consultation with other Trustees, including meetings and discussions with the CEO between Board meetings on specific issues or projects and attending Board committees (e.g. quarterly Finance Committee and/or Service Forum, etc.)

o Support and assist with the promotion of the Charity and its services

o The role has no Executive function

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

o A proven track-record in one of the following:

- a professional field

- the management of a service, department and/or organisation

- Governance and/or advisory role with an organisation

- lived experience of an issue relevant to SCT’s service provision

Desirable:

o Board/Committee experience

o A specialism in any of the following areas:

- Drug and alcohol addiction

- PR/Media/Marketing

- Fundraising

- Legal/Finance

- Human Resources

- IT

- Quality management

- Management

- Property/Real Estate/Housing

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

o Heart for the marginalised and passionate about supporting those with complex needs

o Good verbal communication skills

o Person with enthusiasm, motivation, commitment and sound judgment.

o Full commitment to SCT’s Mission and Ethos

o Personal Christian faith (GOR applies to SCT trusteeship as a Christian Charity)

o Ability to handle confidential information

o Ability to operate in a team

o Commitment to Equality & Diversity
