Hackney, Greater London 2.23 miles
£32,000 per year
Contract, Full-time
Job description

We need a Programme Manager to manage our existing successful mental health volunteering and employment project Step Up, but also to help expand the programme to be able to support people with other support needs including physical disabilities and long term health conditions.

You would then be responsible for managing more than one project, each providing support to different groups of people, with different needs and conditions.

Step Up was launched by VCH in 2014 to provide personalised intensive support to people living in Hackney with mental health support needs, to help identify their personal goals, and source and secure a suitable volunteer placement that suits their skills, interests and experience. Many people lack the confidence to put themselves forward for volunteering roles, or do not appreciate what they have to offer, and need encouragement and coaching to move forward.

Since the programme launched, we have supported over 350 people to start volunteering, and 123 people with mental health support needs to find paid work. We partner with all the different mental health services in the borough, providing support to people with both severe and enduring mental health conditions as well as those described as mild to moderate. We work with a range of professionals including GPs, psychotherapists and psychologists, as well as local charities and community groups to ensure people are provided with the level of support they need to perform their role.

By providing different services – group and individual support, a place to socialise and share skills, buddies and mentors, mental health and employability workshops – people can move forward at their own pace, finding an activity and option that suits them. It builds resilience and confidence, reduces people’s isolation, and helps people to meet personal goals.

We need a Programme Manager, to manage the team, help ensure we meet our targets, engage with partners and stakeholders, and review and improve the service. However, this year, we would also like to expand the programme to other conditions, which would require research into existing services, and gaps in provision, and help with sourcing and applying for funding.
