The Death Penalty Project (DPP) is a is a legal action NGO with special consultative status before the United Nations Economic and Social Council. We provide free representation to people facing the death penalty worldwide, with a focus on the Commonwealth. We use the law to protect those facing execution and promote fair criminal justice systems, where the rights of all people are respected.
We believe the death penalty is a cruel and inhuman punishment that discriminates against the poorest and most disadvantaged members of society. We want to see it consigned to history.
What we do:
We represent and assist those facing the death penalty and other cruel punishments, free of charge.
We deliver targeted and practical capacity building to judges, lawyers, mental health professionals, and others working within the criminal justice system.
We commission original research and publish training resources that challenge misconceptions and deepen understanding around the death penalty.
We engage with governments, policymakers, and other key stakeholders in a constructive dialogue on how abolition of the death penalty can be achieved.
The Role:

Key responsibilities:
- Manage the coordination of ongoing project activities, including the commissioning and publishing of research, training and capacity building plans, and advocacy and engagement efforts.
- Manage donor-funded grants, to ensure agreed objectives and deadlines are met.
- Produce high-quality narrative reports to funders in line with donor requirements, and coordinate with the Deputy Director for the development of accurate donor financial reports.
- Produce and maintain up-to-date project documents and tools, such as project delivery workplans and country information sheets.
- Draft other documents as required, such as briefing notes, memoranda and/or letters for advocacy and engagement efforts.
- Develop and maintain DPP’s monitoring and evaluation system, effectively tracking progress against organisational and project indicators, and developing and implementing project monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Maintain active relationships with project partners involved in research, capacity building and/or engagement activities, as well as manage any contracts for services that may be required for the delivery of projects, such as audits or evaluations.
- Identify, manage and / or escalate any risks or issues that may arise in relation to effective and timely project delivery (including reputational, operational, financial, or other risks).
- Keep up to date on relevant political developments in our priority geographies and brief other members of the team as needed.
- Proactively develop ideas for project activities that advance DPP’s mission and strategy in our priority geographies.

Knowledge, skills and experience
Essential:
- At least five years of relevant experience in the non-profit and / or human rights sector
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a strong track record of producing high quality donor reports and/or briefing documents
- Experience managing logframes and/or other monitoring and evaluation frameworks
- Experience managing EU and/or FCDO-funded projects, or similar
- A self-starter that enjoys working in a small team, with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines, and with a range of responsibilities
- A strong interest in human rights issues related to The Death Penalty Project’s work
- Permission to live and work in the UK
Desirable:
- Knowledge and understanding of international human rights law and related issues, or strong desire to learn

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) have an exciting opportunity for a Science Policy Intern to work with us on a part-time or full-time (28-35 hours per week) fixed-term contract (6 months) basis to start from June 2024.
The RSC’s purpose is ‘to help the chemical sciences community make the world a better place’. One way we do this is by using evidence to persuade decision-makers (like members of Parliament and the Government) on issues that affect the chemical sciences – or where science plays an important part.
You will help us to do this by analysing a range of data, drawing conclusions from it and writing this up in a clear way, to help convince decision-makers of the need for action. You will also be involved in supporting events and round tables that involve members of our community and government policymakers, by organising these and helping to write the recommendations. Through round tables, consulting members and desk research, you will gather evidence for developing policy positions. You will also provide some administrative support to the team.
Our science policy activities cover issues that affect chemistry research and innovation and issues where the chemical sciences play an important role in informing decisions. You will be part of the Policy and Evidence Team, which works on some of the hottest topics such as the UK’s future scientific relationships and science policy, chemicals policy, environment, science and infrastructure funding, climate change and industrial strategy.
At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate.
Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge or London office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend the office as needed for your role. About the Team
The Outbound Supporter Services team is based in Sheffield, in the same office as our free national housing advice helpline. The team does vital work engaging new and existing supporters, educating them on Shelter’s fight against social injustice. The team is responsible for promoting Shelter’s work, raising awareness of housing and homelessness issues, and enhancing the organisation’s ability to both recruit and retain supporters.
About the role
You will be the first point of contact for many supporters seeking information about Shelter’s work; you will have excellent communication and administrative skills and a real interest in housing issues, as well as an understanding of how the Outbound Supporter Services Team impacts supporter retention. Your tasks will include calling supporters to welcome them to the organization, thanking them for choosing to support us, undertaking quality control surveys and ensuring the accuracy of supporter data.
As a Tele-Fundraising Intern, you will promote Shelter, raise awareness of housing and homelessness issues and enhance Shelter’s ability to retain our supporters. This is a diverse role and you will be expected to respond to enquiries about Shelter’s work and action supporter requests. We take collective action alongside women’s rights organisations, feminist movements and activists in Eastern and Southern Africa and South Asia. Currently, Womankind has staff based in Kenya and the UK. This position is located in the UK. Role Purpose
The intern will provide general support to the programmes and learning team, including with administration of programmes and grant compliance, partner communications, logistics and (online) event organisation. The Commonwealth Foundation is recruiting for its Graduate Internship Programme. We are seeking four Interns for six-month placements across different areas of our organisation.
To be considered, all applicants must have an existing right to work in the United Kingdom and must be able to provide evidence of that right in their application.

The role
Our Graduate Internship Programme provides opportunities for recent graduates to participate in all aspects of the Commonwealth Foundation and gain experience, strengthen their knowledge and develop their skills.
We maintain a team of interns who are recruited together for a six-month period, which may be extended to a maximum of 12 months depending on performance and the needs of the Foundation. Our interns are fully integrated into the Foundation’s staff structure, and we pay close attention to their professional development.
The successful candidates will be allocated to one of the following areas of our work:
- Commonwealth Civil Society (home of our major grants work)
- Creative (within the Advocacy & Creative Programme, home of our cultural initiatives including adda and the Commonwealth Short Story Prize)
- Advocacy (within the Advocacy & Creative Programme, also home of outreach, advocacy and the Critical Conversations events series)
- Communications (working across the Foundation as part of the Knowledge, Learning & Communications team)
Responsibilities are tailored to the needs of each team and the intern’s own areas of skill and interest. For more information on our programmes and our work, see our current Strategic Plan.
Although interns will be based in one of the above programmes, they will be given the opportunity to experience other areas of the Foundation’s work and will also collaborate with their fellow interns on specific projects.

Who we look for
The Foundation strives to be a welcoming and inclusive place to work. We aim to ensure that the Graduate Internship programme is as accessible as possible to people from a range of socio-economic backgrounds.
You will have excellent research and administrative skills and ideally have a good knowledge of, or interest in, at least one area of our work: freedom of expression, climate justice or health justice. Experience using technology is important, and knowledge of Microsoft Office and online platforms is required.
We are looking for people who are curious and willing to learn and who will actively promote the values and principles of the Commonwealth and the Foundation.
You must possess and declare at the time of application the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the internship. The Foundation cannot assist in altering the visa status of any applicant.
What we offer
We offer interns a salary of £2,000 per month (equivalent to £24,000 per annum) for a six-month fixed term internship contract. Annual leave is calculated at 30 days per year (pro-rata) inclusive of public holidays and the Foundation’s own designated leave days.
We are currently operating a flexible working policy which requires all staff to work from our central London office at least five days per fortnight including every Wednesday. Applicants must be able to affirm their capacity and willingness to work within our policy.
Our aim is to help our interns to their next position. To that end, we provide guidance on future opportunities as well as assistance with refining CVs and undertaking interviews. There is no expectation of a role with the Foundation at the end of the internship.

To support SEND (young people with disabilities) on the Shaw Trust supported internships to progress on their work placements and make successful transitions into paid work. To provide training and support for business partners and families, to ensure success during the workplace placements and to seek out job opportunities both within and outside of the host employer.

Job Description
- Provides individualised support for interns at the host business worksite placement or competitive job which includes: job coaching, identifying job placements, assistive technology, etc.
- Attends host business induction to ensure student understanding and learning
- Works with managers and co-workers to educate on disability awareness
- Communicates with parents on a regular basis
- Visits students and give feedback to all team members
- Meets daily with tutor to discuss student progress
- Meets regularly with business liaison, managers and peer mentors to discuss student strengths and challenges, issues, progress, etc
- Works with tutor to plan events such as induction, information nights/Open days and graduation
- Works with other team members to provide internal and external marketing for business and community such as newsletter articles, website information, tours, community presentations, social media etc.

This opportunity will provide a hands-on introduction to the editorial process, from writing and editing to page layout and printing and is available on a paid, full-time basis for eight weeks to start no later than 7 October 2024, supported by the Marriott Bequest Trust.
At the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate.
