As Director of Services and Grants, you will be responsible for ensuring that our multi-channel services and grants programme serve and improve the lives of older people, reach those who are most likely to be in poverty, and have the maximum impact. You will help us grow our capacity, build our network of charity and commercial partnerships, develop our external training offer, and reach more people including those groups most likely to experience financial hardship.
Having operated at a senior level, ideally as part of a Senior Leadership Team, you will be an inspiring leader with a demonstrable passion for our cause. Experienced in successfully managing service transformation and development, including in a contact centre environment, you will also have an understanding of grants programmes, and of building strategic partnerships and national networks. With an understanding of demonstrating and reporting on impact, experience of supporting fundraising for services and bidding for contracts, you will ideally also have knowledge of developing an external training offer.

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, which you can choose to work over five days a week or a 9-day fortnight.

About the role:
Care Ashore are seeking their next Chief Executive Officer to lead the charity into an exciting phase of growth and beyond.
The Chief Executive role will enable and lead their team to ensure the charity delivers an excellent supported housing and welfare service to current and future beneficiaries, in line with its values, vision, mission and strategy.
The role will also have oversight of the effective management and development of our 250+ acre Estate, maximising the many and varied commercial opportunities presented by the Estate to support the charity’s work.
The Chief Executive is responsible for the overall management of the charity, supported by the wider staff team and working with the Board of Trustees to help them meet their responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity.
About you:
As a business leader, with a heart for the delivering impact and value to Care Ashore’s beneficiaries, you’ll bring an entrepreneurial mindset that will enable you to develop the vision and spot both the strategic opportunities to support the future of the organisation, as well as any key operational needs across the physical estate.
Ideally you will have gained your leadership skills in a sector that has cross over with the work that Care Ashore delivers such as care or estate management, however, it’s not essential. Alternatively, you may be wishing to take your track record of successful business experience and make the move into the charity sector, transferring your skills to enable Care Ashore to deliver even greater impact for it’s current and future beneficiaries.
You will be an empathetic leader, with the ability to connect with people from a range of different backgrounds and circumstances as well as the Care Ashore estate itself.
Whilst as the CEO you will have overall oversight of the charity and strategic direction, you will also have the opportunity to build a team of experts around you to help deliver its charitable objectives.
What we can offer you:
Salary: Circa £75,000-£85,000 per annum, negotiable dependant on experience.
Location: Working within the beautiful Springbok Estate in Surrey. Due to the need to be connected to the people and the estate as a key part of this role, you would be required to spend most or all of your working week on site. There is potential to work a day a week from home as needed.
Hours of work: You will be contracted hours are 37.5 hours per week, with time off in lieu for any extended working wok that may be needed as part of fulfilling the duties for this role.
Pension: Care Ashore will provide a pension contribution of 3% of salary; the employee will contribute a minimum of 5% of salary.
Holiday: 28 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays.
The appointment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check at enhanced level.

Care Ashore works to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of those from the seafaring community who require our support.
Care Ashore provides a safe, supportive, accessible, homely, and stimulating community for seafarers and their dependants – for holidays, for respite, or as their short, medium or long-term home when they are in need. They provide accommodation and support for Merchant Seafarers and for former members of the Royal Navy, the Fleet Air Arm and others with a maritime link.
Alongside the charity operations, Care Ashore has a trading subsidiary generating essential income. The commercial element includes, industrial units, a glamping and caravan site, private rented sector accommodation and presents many other opportunities.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be a highly competent, diligent, and compassionate individual with prior expertise in a senior finance position in either the charity sector, the NHS or similar organisation. You will have extensive management experience, including substantial participation at Board level, and will be experienced in business planning and budget setting at a senior level. What’s the role about?
This is a great opportunity to join us as the new Group Finance and Resources Director. As the Depaul Group continues to experience significant growth and increases its impact, you’ll lead the effective financial and governance support provided by DPI to its subsidiaries. You’ll be the leading interface between the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees and other corporate bodies and subsidiaries.
You’ll provide financial advice to the Group CEO, Board and other senior management colleagues, including modelling best practice in financial management, overseeing the financial management in the subsidiaries, setting financial standards for the group and providing support to enable the subsidiaries to meet those standards. You’ll also be leading and supporting the development of a new governance structure for the Group.
What will ideally support your success?
You’ll be a CCAB qualified accountant with experience of strategic financial leadership and management experience and the ability to solve complex problems. It’s important that you also have experience of current financial reporting requirements and financial management practices, including consolidated financial reporting. JOB SUMMARY
- Defines and leads the Charity’s strategies for income development and growth, through a mix of traditional fundraising and marketing, as well as new initiatives;
- Creates and nurtures relationships (new and existing) with key stakeholders, organisations and individuals to secure philanthropic support and maximise income.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership for all fundraising, income development and marketing activity within the Charity by:
Staffing:
- Providing leadership and direct line management support to Assistant Directors and Seniors within the Income Growth & Development team
- Leading and developing a team of experienced fundraisers and the marketing lead, to sustain, develop and grow a range of fundraising, marketing and other initiatives to maximise income from new and existing sources.
Planning and Management
- Implementing and executing the annual Fundraising, Business Development and Marketing Plans to meet targets. Prepare and presents regular reports on progress towards income generation goals, to CEO, then Board of Trustees.
- Monitoring income and managing departmental budgets. Analyses of all fundraising activities, events, including a robust patronage programme as well as funding campaigns, for excellent return on investment,
- To embed a culture for learning, that celebrate successes, encourages feedback and identifies areas for improvement.
Brand and Marketing
- Expanding and diversifying supporter reach and engagement to further enhance the return and reputation of the charity nationally, creating strong ‘brand awareness’ of all areas of our work.
- Overseeing the creation and management of Grief Encounter’s messaging and branding across all platforms. Ensures consistency and clarity across print, digital, social media content and all public relations.
- Conducting extensive research to develop new marketing opportunities and overseeing evaluation of existing processes.
Fundraising Management and Income Generation
- Ensuring income projections are accurate and timely, embracing a culture of performance and ambition.
- Embedding processes to support swift identification of opportunities, as well as timely mobilisation of progress with identified plans.
- On-going review and identification of new Grants and Trust opportunities of significant interest to the Charity. Ensures robust and timely applications, including ones for creative growth and development opportunities, are submitted by team and that outcomes/learning is shared for future improvements.
- Developing and leading on other strategic plans and initiatives with support from SMT and colleagues, to create other new revenue generation opportunities for the charity.
Events and Campaigns
- Planning and overseeing the execution of flagship events (e.g. Gala Dinner) with the Head of Fundraising (Special Events) and ensures support from other colleagues across the Charity.
- Building cross-departmental staff involvement in all fundraising events and income generating initiatives. Working closely with SMT colleagues to regularly update initiatives and share developments, both within Grief Encounter and more widely in the sector.
- Exhibiting a high level of visibility by attending a range of income generating events and functions throughout the year.
Digital Fundraising and Engagement
- Development and drive appropriate digital marketing campaigns across a range of social media platforms to engage supporters and increase donations.
Relationship Management
- Nurturing existing relationships and long standing supported to ensure stability for regular giving is well maintained.
- Networking and maintaining regular contact with an expanding portfolio of philanthropists, and major gift donors and prospects to build strong relationships, negotiate a wide range of on-going opportunities for support as well as partnerships.
- Managing relationships with external agencies to maximise return on investment.
- Supervising and providing advice for other relationship management within the team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
- Degree level education/equivalent.
- Recognised relevant professional qualification in Fundraising/income generation or qualified by extensive relevant experience.
Skills & Experience
- Previous role as a Director of Income Generation or similar position.
- Previous experience of working within a similar agency, ideally but not exclusive to the child bereavement world.
- Highly level of numeracy with excellent understanding of budget and resource planning.
- Proven donor management and income generation skills.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills together with the ability to pitch ideas and applications to a highly professional standard and to support others to do so.
