Aegis Trust is a leading genocide and mass atrocity prevention organization and has activities in the UK and Rwanda, with strong links in Canada and the US. The mission of Aegis Trust is to work towards the prediction, prevention and ultimately the elimination of genocide, primarily through research, education and the dissemination of information and advice. Aegis has been at the forefront of campaigning to end the crisis in Darfur and partnered with the Kigali City Council to build the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda. Aegis is currently recruiting a Fundraising and Administration Intern for its International Internship Programme in Rwanda to support fundraising efforts at the Kigali Genocide Memorial (KGM). Reporting To: Operations and Development Manager Duties and Responsibilities Duties will include, but are not limited to: Fundraising • Supporting the development and implementation of a fundraising plan for 2011/2012 • Conducting research on grant giving foundations • Supporting the drafting of grant proposals and sponsorship letters • Working to engage companies both local and international to support the KGM activities by donating in kind, with services or otherwise • Supporting the organisation and implementation of large scale fundraising events for the KGM Publicity • Engaging with social media sites, online forums and discussion groups to publicise KGM activities • Supporting the implementation of an International Speaking Tour for a young Rwandan survivor Administration • Supporting the development of a KGM partnership database • Keeping track of upcoming deadlines and notifying senior staff • Support creating weekly income reports for all projects of KGM • Other daily administrative tasks such as photocopying, printing, filing etc. Qualities & Skills Essential: • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written – able to communicate information in an interesting and engaging manner • Previous fundraising experience whether through events or proposal writing • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks well • Comfortable working with a variety of social media outlets • Excellent IT capability, including working with Microsoft Office and conducting online research • Self motivated and the ability to work with minimal supervision • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully work in a small team • Event management experience • Innovative thinker with a flare for new ideas and a track record of successfully implementing them • The ability to become familiar with issues and topics extremely quickly • Enthusiastic, motivated and articulate • As this is an international internship, previous experience living and/or working in a developing country would be an asset Desirable: • Detailed knowledge of the work of the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Aegis Trust • Experience of living and working in Rwanda with an understanding of the social environment • Successful fundraiser having garnered significant income through grant writing and corporate partnerships in an NGO environment • Experience within an NGO, government agency or intergovernmental organization • Previous experience creating and managing databases • Previous experience of financial reporting • Knowledge of key human rights issues, international law, conflict prevention and minority issues • Experience of coordinating large scale events – including fundraisers and speaking tours on issues of human rights, conflict prevention, international development • A good understanding of the Canadian and/or US education system and media outlets • Experience of devising and implementing marketing campaigns • Good level of French comprehension and speaking Internship Location: Kigali, Rwanda Hours: 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. However additional hours and possible weekend work may be required as needed. Allowance: This is an unpaid international internship Cost of room and board (breakfast and dinner) will be provided in Rwanda. Timeline: This is a 3 month internship with the possibility of extension
