The Volunteer, Engagement & Development Manager will sit within our leadership team structure and work proactively with colleagues across CABB, holding primary responsibility for the following key areas:

• Lead on the review, development and implementation of our volunteering programme, while ensuring the inclusion, engagement, diversity, impact and value of volunteers is recognised and celebrated.
• Provide line management to a small team of paid staff who work closely with and support our volunteers and engagement areas of the service.

The postholder will be a dedicated, flexible and quality focused individual who is able to work independently, with minimal supervision.

Black Rootz is a multigenerational growing project providing opportunities for Black and racially minoritised people to grow food for themselves, their families and their communities. Black Rootz was established in 2019 by a collective of Black growers in Haringey who recognised the need to organise to challenge the deep inequalities in the growing and food systems. Over the past 5 years, Black Rootz has developed a holistic practice for Black and racially minoritised communities incorporating intergenerational knowledge transfer, increased access to land and food sovereignty, regenerative environmental practices and reduced food inequality.

Black Rootz has been incubated as a project within The Ubele Initiative since 2019. As an established name in the growing community, it is now building towards an independent future.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Project Manager is a new role that will provide hands on management capacity to Black Rootz. The role will bring experience and energy to support the delivery and continued development of the project’s core activities; the Community Growing Programme and a new workshop series. The Project Manager will take on a management position and, with support from Ubele, help the project to navigate decisions that will enable Black Rootz to achieve its overall social, environmental, and operational ambitions. 

The successful candidate will be central in Black Rootz’ journey towards a more independent and sustainable future. The National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT) has embarked on a new exciting five-year strategy – ‘Becoming Seamlessly Inclusive 2023-2028’. To help us on this journey, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Trust’s Company Administrator, a key role within our organisation. You will be able to think on your feet and be confident to work autonomously. 

The NPHT is a young dynamic and diverse organisation, and a leader in accessible heritage. Role of the Company Administrator

The Administrator will be responsible for the key administration functions of the Trust; planning, directing, managing, and coordinating all operational functions including the office management, day to day finance records, events support and site maintenance.

1. Overall

1.1 To be part of the inspiring work of the National Paralympic Heritage Trust, supporting the wider team and often being the first line of contact to visitors and partners in person, online and via telephone.

1.2 Manage the provision of office services including the management of day to day finance and payments, staff rotas, stationary orders, supporting events and bookings and ensuring the smooth running of the office.

1.3 Organising the day-to-day maintenance of the Heritage Centre and the displays at the National Spinal Injuries Centre.

Main Duties

1.4 The management of office systems, operating practices, record keeping, policies and budget monitoring systems including supporting returns to funders, monthly invoicing records and payments.

1.5 Administration of training, Heritage Centre bookings, events and meetings, including organising catering when relevant.

2.1 The Administrator will be employed by the National Paralympic Heritage Trust and be responsible to the Board of Trustees.

2.2 The Administrator will report to and be supported by the Head of Programmes.

2.3 The Administrator will have monthly meetings with the Head of Programmes, reporting on progress and raising any areas of concern.

3. Period of Contract

3.1 Permanent.

4.1 The proposed fee is £25,000 a year Pro rata 3 days a week (24 hours).

4.2 In addition to the payment outlined above the Administrator will be paid reasonable agreed expenses incurred subject to the supply of receipts/travel expense claim and a stakeholder pension.

Insurance is covered by the NPHT.

This role is part of the Devon Domestic Abuse Service which provides support to high and medium risk victims of domestic abuse and their families.

This exciting new specialist role of Housing IDVA is designed to support victims of Domestic Abuse to remain safe in their own accommodation or secure suitable new housing.

The main tasks for this role include:

• Managing a caseload of high risk victims, providing specialist support around housing.
• Acting as a link person between the local authority housing teams, our Domestic Abuse services in Devon, supported accommodation and refuges.
• Offering dedicated support to victims in Places of Safety.

What is Screen Share? 

Screen Share is a grassroots refugee charity which provides laptops, phones, tablets, data, digital skills to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. We use the power of volunteering to turn discarded tech into good quality techical tools for refugees to improve their situation on their own terms. We are now launching a laptop refurbishment training programme for refugees in London and are looking for someone to run it and provide ad-hoc technical support to our team of volunteer laptop refurbishers! 

Role overview

Screen Share is looking for a proactive, self-starter and leader to launch a laptop refurbishment training programme for refugees in London, support tech volunteers to remotely refurbish laptops, respond to faults and perceived faults with devices we have provided to service users, and support with sourcing and refurbishing devices.

The postholder will have experience of at least Level 2 laptop repair and an interest in upskilling others in basic laptop refurbishment 

Outcome 1 

Co-design and co-deliver a laptop refurbishment training programme for 40 refugees and asylum seekers in London 

• Co-design a laptop refurbishment training programme for 40 refugees 

• Co-deliver the training programme in London

• Support with the logistics necessary for running a multi-cohort programme

• Create resources for learners and guide them through refurbishment workshops 

Outcome 2 

Respond to reported laptop faults by providing remote support or requesting a return

• Run remote diagnostics with service users whose laptops have developed faults or supposed faults. 

• Make an assessment of whether remote repair is possible or whether return is necessary.

• Engage kindly, patiently, politely and on a trauma-informed basis with service-users.

Outcome 3 

Provide technical support in laptop refurbishment and data destruction for staff, volunteers and prospective laptop donors 

• Be the contact point for tech volunteers and tech trainees who need support with the laptop refurbishment process. 

• Advise prospective tech donors on their data destruction options and best practice.

• Support the Digital Access Project Manager with the technical elements of her role, ensuring the tech volunteers are following the most efficient standardised refurbishment process. 

• Think critically and collaboratively about our existing technical refurbishment process (including software, hardware, peopleware, charityware, and tech disposal),  suggest alternatives to the methods currently used, support their implementation where appropriate and record that process of development. 

• Offer critical reflections on facilitating remote digital skills training. 

Outcome 4

Lead by example by personally maintaining a steady flow of laptop refurbishment

• Receive, refurbish and redistribute laptops and other devices 

• Keep Airtable and other tracking system up to date 

• Communicate consistently with the Digital Access Project Manager on required parts and economical refurbishment
