Job Description

Volunteer - Monthly Activity Days (MADs)

Background

Siblings Together champions, strengthens and builds relationships between brothers and sisters aged 7 to 18 years old who have been separated by the care system.

Founded in 2008, the charity has worked tirelessly to provide siblings separated in the care system the opportunity for sustained contact as well as supporting their broader social and emotional wellbeing. With over 50,000 children in care separated from their siblings there is a real need for focus on maintaining sibling contact.

As part of our activities, we run Monthly Activity days in North and South London once a month on a weekend. At Monthly Activity days, the siblings partake in adventurous and fun activities around either within our designated centre, around London, or sometimes further afield for day trips.

Volunteer's Role

The volunteer's role will be to act in a supportive, befriending capacity at MADs assisting to ensure that the day runs smoothly and safely as well as providing a high quality experience for the siblings groups who attend. Volunteers will work under the direction of the MADs coordinator to ensure Siblings Together ethos and values are promoted through the MADs.

You will be looking after one sibling group over the course of your volunteering but alongside all of the other volunteers and sibling groups. This means you can create a great bond with the siblings and have a real impact on helping them build their relationship.

The MADs run in both North and South London and you would be required to volunteer for one weekend day per month at your chosen location - the day would run from 10am - 5pm

Requirements

  • Previous experience of youth work would be desirable but not essential
  • Positive attitude and willing to "get stuck in"
  • Will need to commit to attend MADs for 12- 18 months
  • Able to volunteer in Camden or Southwark
We will require you to undergo child protection training, but we can provide this. We also require a police check, but we will also be able to do this for you.

Please don't hesitate to get in contact should you have any questions :)

Can only volunteer for the summer? Call us and we can talk about individual cases?
