Job description

This is an ideal opportunity for someone wishing to gain valuable community and events fundraising experience in an International development charity, supporting the day to day work of the Fundraising and Marketing Manager. The role offers the opportunity to gain a working knowledge of community and events fundraising across a wide range of community fundraising activity plus events such as our annual Gala Dinner and Atlas Mountain Trek. 

The Community Fundraising & Events Volunteer will be a key member of a small team building relationships in the London community to support our exciting upcoming plans. We are particularly interested in candidates who are part of/have access to Moroccan and/or Muslim communities and could bring contacts as we try to build long-lasting relationships between the UK and Morocco. You will play an active role optimising voluntary fundraising in the London area and will have the opportunity to market and attend events and get some real experience with fundraising supporters.

Our mission is to support and improve conditions for vulnerable children and their families in Morocco.Our vision is to create a safe and fulfilling environment in which vulnerable children are able to thrive and grow; a Morocco in which children and families living in poverty or disadvantage can count on effective and appropriate support to help them realise their potential.The Community Fundraising Volunteer is expected to contribute to this aim.

The role is flexible and we are looking for a self-starter who can work autonomously from home in the London area for 1-2 days per week (ideally Tues/Weds/Thurs/Fri). Although the post is unpaid, we can offer reimbursement of travel and appropriate expenses.

Areas you will gain experience

1. Researching and approaching key contacts to build long-lasting relationships within our local London community and working with them to increase our voluntary-led fundraising
2. Support Fundraising and Marketing Manager with marketing anf running events in London - flyering, researching venues, creating materials, administration and operations
3. Assisting with creation of a new supporter journey and case for support including the day-to-day customer care of Community and Events fundraising activities e.g. e-newsletters, phone calls
4. Assisting with operation of ad hoc mail merges and mailings (welcome packs, good luck cards etc) as required.
5. Sending out fundraising materials as requested by supporters.
6. To act as Ambassador for MCT throughout London and promote our policies maintain the quality and consistency of our message and ensuring that all activity is undertaken in such a way as will not compromise the good name of MCT or its legal or financial liability.
7. You may be asked to undertake other tasks that may, from time to time, be necessary and compatible with the nature of this opportunity such as attending the events

What skills do I need to be a great Community Fundraiser ?
1. An interest in the voluntary sector & fundraising. 
2. Experience of using Microsoft Office, including Email, Word and Excel.
3. Approachability and strong inter personal skills
4. Trustworthiness and honesty
5. Confident telephone manner and a willingness to ‘cold call’
6. Strong written and verbal communication skills
7. Experience of using the Internet for research purposes.
6. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with others and work flexibly as part of a team.
7. Ability to maintain efficient office procedures, particularly with regard to record keeping.
8. Ability to prioritise and organise work.
11. Willingness to attend events as necessary (weekends / evenings) 
12. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in English, including drafting routine letters.

This job is suitable for a recent graduate.
