This a rare and exciting opportunity to join Hubbub’s leadership team. Our new Director of Finance will take a proactive role in ensuring the continued financial strength of the organisation, following a period of significant growth.

You’ll be responsible for leading the finance team and providing expert financial and business advice to the team and boards. You’ll be the one making sure that financial implications are fully considered in all strategic decision-making.

You’ll always be seeking to improve the usefulness of the information you provide and the impact of your insights. Taking pride in the accuracy and effectiveness of the systems you maintain to accurately measure financial performance and minimise risk will be critical to the success of this role.

The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, strategic, and responsive to a fast-paced environment, you will enjoy working organisation-wide and having input to high level decisions, a great collaborator with a sense of purpose and fun.

The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant and will also bring:

Job Description

The Permanent Part Time (0.6) Head of Finance is a core member of the organisation's structure and is a strategic partner to the Director of Operations on all areas of finance. Responsibilities will include:

 

Run the accounting functions

• Manage payment runs and other banking.
• Manage payroll, pension and staff benefits as required.
• Administer investments and banking.
• Cashflow Management.
• Finance app management inc. Xero, ApprovalMax

Management accounts and planning

• Produce management accounts.
• Analyse trends and variances, and other analysis as required.
• Model company finances including budgets and 3-year business plan.

Compliance

• Manage VAT, corporation tax, and tax planning.
• Generate and review accounting and compliance policies.
• Work with auditors throughout the year as required.
• Implement and manage spending and authorisation controls.

The Successful Applicant

• Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW etc)
• 5+ years PQE
• Can demonstrate working independently and as finance lead with board responsibilities. (Experience in a SME preferable)
• May suit fractional or part-time (3 days/week). Flexible working possible.

Women in Prison is the main national charity focused on women in the criminal justice sector. We exist to support women facing multiple marginalisation and exclusion, who have been let down, and their rights denied.  We believe that prison doesn’t work and we want to see an end to the harmful imprisonment of women in England and Wales.

Our staff team are passionate, ambitious and grounded in the reality of women’s lives.  We are proud of our roots as a feminist grassroots organisation, and we have grown from strength to strength since the 1980s, delivering services to women and campaigning for change. We are in our 40th year of supporting women impacted by the criminal justice system. We work with women who are at risk of, or being harmed by, the systems that are meant to protect us.

The successful candidate will lead on a wide range of responsibilities for the charity including managing our resources and systems, organisational development and, critically for an organisation of our size, the financial management of the charity.  The role will also lead our internal approaches to embedding equity, diversity and inclusivity into our everyday work and culture.

We are looking for a freelance Finance & Operations Officer - ideally with charity experience and familiar with Xero - who can support our core team of four as it takes the charity to the next level.  Preferably able to work flexibly, the average time required is estimated at one day per week. This may mean dealing with an email or phone call in an ad hoc way from time to time.

Using a network of music industry professionals and youth workers, Grounded Sounds offer engaging, top quality programmes in a highly welcoming and supportive environment. The programmes are for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds - both 11 – 16 year olds in schools or youth centres and for 16 – 24 year olds (often NEET) with an interest in music. The programmes don’t just develop musical talent; they build young people’s confidence and life skills.

As Finance & Operations Officer, you will report to the Chief Executive and help with all ‘back office’ activities for the charity.  These include: all bookkeeping activities; producing monthly and annual financial reports; managing and overseeing the use of Views, our Monitoring and Evaluation system from Substance; supporting the Chief Exec in ensuring policies and procedures are kept up to date; and supporting the team with analysis and reporting to funders.  You will also run the payroll.  The Treasurer, one of the trustees, who has been doing the accounts and performing many of the back office activities up to this point, will support you.

• An excellent trainer, with experience of delivering training to businesses.

Introducing Harington

Harington is an Ofsted registered specialist college based in North London rated good, working with around 52 young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment, that delivers outstanding personalised education, learning, and support, which leads to further education, employment opportunities, and a fulfilling life for each of our students. 

We specialise in horticulture, retail and general employability. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes and supported internships that lead to vocational qualifications and achieving other aims. We support the wellbeing of our young people through providing mentoring, counselling, enrichment and other one-to-one support.

Our charity has two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey. We also operate a gardening business and two charity shops, providing income for our charity, work experience placements for our students and employment for 14 young people. We work with local employers and partners to provide work experience and other opportunities for our students.

The Role

This is an exciting time to join the Harington, as we have recently appointed a new Principal/CEO. We want to ensure that the Harington is able to fulfil and secure its mission to benefit our young people, both now and into the future.

In the next year we will consolidate what we do well and seek to strengthen the areas where we could do better. The Interim COO will work with all stakeholders and closely with the Principal/CEO to review, plan and implement the necessary changes. The role is initially for 9 months, but it is anticipated that it will continue after the initial review and planning period.  

This Interim Chief Operating Officer role will:-

1)Support the development and implementation of the strategic plan and through the annual Operations Plan and Budget, and be responsible for measuring and evaluating progress against goals and targets

2)Drive excellence and efficiency across Finance, HR, Governance, Operations, and IT, strengthening and embedding the right policies, systems, processes, technology and infrastructure ensuring seamless execution and robust management of risk.

3)Manage our three commercial businesses (two charity shops and Harington Gardeners) so they meet our social, learning and business aims

4)Oversee Harington’s fundraising so we secure the income we need from trusts and foundations, individual donors and community fundraising

5)Ensure effective management of the buildings and estate of a multi-site organisation, and the support services required to provide a suitable and safe environment for learning and working, that meets the required health and safety standards

6) Ensure that all staff feel valued and supported, with effective management of staff, operations and administration

 You are an exceptional senior leader that is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for young people with learning differences.

Working as part of the senior leadership and management team you will ensure that Harington is a safe environment where students can learn, work, thrive and grow. You will ensure our staff team is valued and supported, and our management team and trustees are kept up to date and fully informed.

You are an energetic, organised, and positive team player, similarly comfortable working independently. It is a very varied role and one that needs calm focus as well as spontaneity and initiative.

You are adept at getting to the root of an issue, finding the solution and making things run smoothly and efficiently.

This role will primarily sit within our Capacity Building and Standards (CB&S) function but will work closely with our Innovation and Practice (I&P) and Advocacy and Communications (A&C) functions. 

The CB&S function aims to build capacity both inside and outside of public institutions to embed the processes, skills, structures and cultures needed for effective public participation in decision-making. The I&P function is responsible for the deliberative, dialogic and participatory projects and processes that we run. The A&C function aims to build political and public understanding of and support for making participation and deliberation an everyday, integral part of our democracy. 

This role will have a thematic focus on public engagement in decision-making within the science, technology and data sectors. Candidates do not need an educational or work background in this sector, although it would be useful, but we would expect the successful candidate to take a keen interest in these topics. 

Involve achieves its impacts by growing expertise in sector-specific areas where public engagement is important. Science and tech represent policy areas where citizen engagement on both principles and practice is vital and where public engagement can also open the door to broader deliberative democratic interventions and feedback loops. Technological advancement, including AI, presents risks and opportunities and will be an ongoing priority for government with five critical technologies likely to be central to UK policy for at least the next Government.

Involve has a significant pedigree and is well networked in the area of public engagement in science. Over the last 20 years we have been thought leaders in this space, in particular running the government’s science and tech engagement programme, Sciencewise. We have developed a reputation for best practice public dialogue, deliberation and capacity building.

As Engagement Lead you will play a central role in leading Involve’s work, and building out our strategy, on public engagement in the science, technology and data field. The job will involve leading on our Sciencewise programme of public dialogue as well as supporting, growing and communicating our science and tech public engagement in general. You will be a proven project leader and strategic thinker looking to make your next move and develop your leadership and profile in this interesting and important area of public engagement in decision-making.

About the role

We are the largest membership body for voluntary organisations in England. The needs of communities are diverse and ever-changing. This means the role charities play, and what they need, constantly evolve.

​​We hold a wealth of data. We need our data to become meaningful insight that helps tell the story of our members and the sector. Both to aid internal strategic decision making and to influence external audiences.

​​The insight lead will be integral to realising this ambition ‒ combining our analytical and sector research with our internal data. They will establish NCVO’s Insight Hub which will house the highest quality data and insight, and be respected and valued by external stakeholders.

​We’re already revered for our Almanac and other research projects, which the insight lead will further expand. They will also develop the strategy, review our research programme, and embed a culture of using insights across the organisation.

​​This is a dual role. The insight lead will act as a champion for the voice of the customer internally – ensuring business decisions and strategic priorities are based on insight, and that we’re collecting and managing data in the most compliant way.

​They will also take a strong external leadership approach ‒ looking for partners, technologies, AI solutions and funding opportunities so we can strengthen what we know about the sector, and how we report and share information. They will review our existing approach to research and harness opportunities from our unique perspective.

​We’re located a short walk from London King’s Cross station in a modern accessible building overlooking Regent’s Canal.

We are seeking to recruit an individual with purpose, passion and integrity to lead our Health team. In this role, you will use your skills, knowledge and experiences to help ensure movement and physical activity is embedded into health and care systems. You will work with partners across the system, in the leadership of GM Moving; our whole system approach across the city-region to reduce inactivity and grow a movement for active lives for everyone, with a specific intent to reduce physical activity and health inequalities.

Greater Manchester Moving is the Greater Manchester charity committed to changing lives by inspiring a healthier future in Greater Manchester through moving more, physical activity and sport. We play a strategic leadership role in support of the Greater Manchester wide movement, for movement.

The person appointed will be driven to make a difference to the lives of people and the places in which they move.  You will play an important role in leading the Active Partnership, GM Moving, to deliver its organisational business plan as it contributes to GM Moving in Action.

You will provide executive leadership, direction and management to the health team as they provide leadership, support and connection to support the mission of Active Lives for All in support of,  and working closely with, the NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high performing Active Partnership team working with a network committed to making positive change through physical activity, sport and movement. You do not have to have a background in physical activity or sport but just be passionate about the difference you know it can make to people’s lives.

We have permanent office space in the House of Sport in Manchester, and regular team and co-working days in venues across Greater Manchester, blended with homeworking.
