Doncaster, South Yorkshire

£27,000 per year

Contract, Full-time

Job Description

Senior Project Officer - Doncaster Hub (Two Year Contract)
Doncaster, South Yorkshire (office/field based, with travel throughout the region)

About Us

The National Literacy Trust is a national charity dedicated to raising literacy levels in the UK. One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school, and as an adult they could be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood that, by the age of five, a child’s literacy skills will be below average.

We run projects in the poorest communities, campaign to make literacy a priority for politicians and parents, and support schools. Our mission is to give young people the literacy skills they need to get a job and lead a successful life.

We are now seeking a Senior Project Officer to join our team for a two year contract and co-ordinate our National Literacy Trust Hub delivery in Doncaster.

The Benefits

- Salary of £27,000 per annum
- A generous annual leave allowance totalling 39 days’ (including Bank Holidays and office closure between Christmas and New Year)
- Cycle to Work scheme
- Season ticket travel loans
- Access to other health and wellbeing benefits including discounted gym membership, dental plans and health assessments

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced project co-ordinator to join our compelling organisation and support the growth of our vital Hubs programme.

A Hub is a place-based response to the challenges of intergenerational low literacy. Working with a range of partners to shape and deliver activity as part of a local strategy, each Hub has a different approach to tackling low literacy based on the assets and needs in the area and runs for at least 10 years.

In this exciting role, you will have the chance to help us transform lives through literacy and make a real difference to people within Doncaster and the local region.

The Role

As the Senior Project Officer, you will join the communities and local areas team and support the delivery and co-ordination of our new Hub in Doncaster.

Using a community-based approach, you will initially focus on targeting primary age children through a city-wide campaign. Your role will also involve:

- Co-ordinating contracts related to the programme
- Supporting campaigns with the on-the-ground underpinning activity
- Producing and distributing resources/materials as required
