Reporting directly to a dedicated and passionate Chief Executive Officer, and playing a key role within the leadership team, the Director of Finance & Company Secretary role represents an excellent opportunity to create and deliver long term financial strategies that supports the services and causes championed by the Society. The Director of Finance will be a first-class communicator who can work in collaboration with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be a strong advocate for a finance team that offers a best-in-class delivery of customer focused financial services. You must enjoy hands-on management and oversee the Head of Finance and the Finance team, ensuring that they continue to provide robust financial governance and control. This will all be conjunction with growing their knowledge and capacity with the Dynamic 365 platform to meet the ever-evolving needs and strategy of the Society. The post holder will also safeguard the financial integrity of the Society, its governance, and ensure it is fully compliant with all statutory requirements. This purpose extends to the Society’s subsidiaries.
This rewarding and varied role will see you will have full participation in the formulation and presentation of the Society’s strategic and operational plans and work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees to make the British Horse Society the best it can be.
The Society's Head Office is based near Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. Hybrid working is in place with 2-3 days per week required onsite.
Essential Criteria
- Fully Qualified Accountant
- Proven experience at a senior level in a finance role with responsibility across the whole finance function.
- Experience at a senior level as Company Secretary or equivalent
- Experienced in delivering finance system and/or ERP transformation
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop team members to their full potential.
- Demonstrated aptitude for strategic thinking, planning and analysis.
- Excellent financial planning, annual budgeting and forecasting skills
Desirable Criteria
- Charity sector experience particularly the nature of unrestricted, designated and restricted funds, VAT Partial Exemption, Gift Aid and the Charity SORP
- An understanding of education and qualification regulation and compliance
- Experience of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central

The Head of Finance and Procurement will report to and work closely with the Director of Enabling Services leading the Finance Team. The key responsibilities of the Head of Finance and Procurement will be:
- Engage, build and influence relationships with internal and external stakeholders providing strategic vision, leadership and accountability. - Lead financial and procurement strategies and planning for the organisation, making appropriate and timely recommendations to the Executive and College Board
- Lead the overall management of day-to-day internal financial controls and assets including the detection and monitoring of fraud, and financial risk management
- Identify, analyse and manage strategic risks proactively, reporting, escalating and putting in place mitigation as appropriate and ensuring all risk assessment is timely, proportionate and balanced with the operational realities and requirements of policing
- Develop, lead and performance manage individuals through line management and/or matrix management arrangements as required, ensuring adequate resourcing is planned to meet objectives and that project and programme management disciplines support the delivery of key initiatives
The successful Head of Finance and Procurement will have:
- You must be ACCA, CIMA or ACA fully qualified finance professional

JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Finance will be active in preparing monthly management accounts and commentary for the Senior Management Team.
The Head of Finance will be responsible for the ongoing development of the financial systems, processes and procedures, monthly accounts, cash flow, as well as budgeting and forecasting.
BUDGETING & REPORTING
- Preparation of annual income and expenditure budgets for the Charity, working collaboratively with Heads of Department and members of SMT.
- Review and collate all Head office service costs and professional fees and calculate cross company charging for financial reporting.
- Provision of income and expenditure reports, variance analysis and reconciliation of fundraising activities.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including balance sheet, metrics, and commentary.

- Formulate monthly rolling forecast cashflow for the Charity and Trading Company including phased income budget and planned expenditure.
FINANCIAL SYSTEMS CONTROL
- Ensure the organisation operates robust accounting procedures and systems of internal financial control in line with current good practice and legislation.
- Oversee and facilitate the annual external audit but effective liaison with the auditors and preparation of accounts ready for inspection.
- Regular review of access rights and permissions for accounting, banking & HR software systems

I am recruiting an interim Head of Finance for one of my very well known London based not for profit clients in the Arts sector.
They are looking for someone who can sit between the Director of Finance and the rest of the division, managing the finance team and overseeing day to day operations across the Finance function.

The finance team are on site two days a week and the role is offered for six to nine months on an interim basis – they use Oracle as a system, but will be moving to SAP next year.

About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and versatile finance professional to play a leading strategic role in the continuing development of our North London schools.
The Regional Finance Director will provide the overall leadership and management for all aspects of finance to Ark Schools in the North London region. - To ensure that effective credit controls are in place in respect of income, i.e. catering, lettings, etc.
- To work with the HR Business Partner to oversee all matters relating to payroll, including Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs queries, National Insurance, benefits in lieu of pay (travel loans etc.), Give as You Earn scheme, and to ensure that appropriate controls are in place and robust checks are made in relation to the monthly payroll however noting that the administration or payroll and pensions is outsourced and led by HR.
Key Requirements:
· Professional accountancy qualification, including significant post-qualifying experience
· A record of Continuing Professional Development activities
· Experience and/or knowledge of schools or education finance & administration would be desirable, but not essential
· Knowledge and experience of financial management systems and processes
· Experience of strategic financial planning and supporting decision-making
· Experience of preparing and presenting financial reports and presentations for various stakeholders

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be a highly competent, diligent, and compassionate individual with prior expertise in a senior finance position in either the charity sector, the NHS or similar organisation. You will lead the Finance Team, managing all accounting and financial activities within the charity, and ensuring ongoing financial viability. You will be a confident people manager with a proven ability to provide inspirational leadership and to contribute to the daily running and future strategic direction of the charity as a member of the Executive Leadership Team.
The role will have a shared corporate responsibility for leadership, strategic planning and financial management and will be involved in liaising with and influencing external stakeholders as required.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with current membership of a recognised accountancy body, and will be educated to degree-level, or possess equivalent financial qualifications.
You will have extensive management experience, including substantial participation at Board level, and will be experienced in business planning and budget setting at a senior level. You will be competent in developing and implementing financial strategy and will possess a sound knowledge of understanding of accounting and taxation.

We are praying for a talented Director of Finance, Property and IT to join our Leadership Team. You will be inheriting a skilled and diverse team across the finance, property and IT functions, with the possibility to grow this team, as needed, to fulfil your responsibilities.
- Salary: £84,000 depending on experience + 13.8% employer contribution to pension, 30 days holiday plus Bank Holidays and 3 days ex-gracia during Christmas and New year + other benefits.

What will ideally support your success?

In addition, you’ll have experience of working with and advising a diverse range of boards and external stakeholders. It’s important that you also have experience of current financial reporting requirements and financial management practices, including consolidated financial reporting. Strong IT skills as well as an appreciation and understanding of key HR and ICT challenges in the charity sector are desirable. We’re looking for someone possibly, but not exclusively, working in homelessness and/or international development who shows personal integrity in all they do and have a commitment and respect for our aims, objectives and values.

For a progressive, forward-thinking university in southeast London, we are recruiting a Deputy Financial Controller. This is a new role, reporting to the Financial Controller, which will lead a high-performing team of 4, and manage the statutory returns, external financial audits, financial reporting, and the balance sheet. The Deputy Financial Controller will produce high-quality financial, management, and regulatory reports, and insightful financial control analysis and information essential for strategic decision-making. Millions of fans watch or attend British horseracing’s 10,000 races per year at 59 racecourses, making it the second highest spectator sport in GB. Funding from the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) supports almost every aspect of the sport – such as regulation and integrity, marketing and promotion, veterinary science, equine welfare, people development, community engagement and prize money for participants.
HBLB is an Arm’s Length Body of Government, responsible to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Unlike some NDPBs, HBLB receives no central Government grant-in-aid and no National Lottery funding. Instead, it is required by the Act to collect a statutory levy from the horseracing business of bookmakers (c.£100 million p.a.). HBLB applies those Levy funds to a wide range of schemes in direct support of horseracing and in line with statutory objectives:
- The improvement of breeds of horses
- The advancement or encouragement of veterinary science or veterinary education
- The improvement of horseracing
The Financial Controller (FC) will report to and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) leading the Finance Team with line management responsibility for all four members. This team is highly competent, reliable, and experienced in what they do. The Financial Controller has responsibility for leading activity across the team, driving high levels of professionalism, integrity and continuous improvement in designing and running effective and efficient operational activity and analysis.
The key responsibilities of the Financial Controller will be:
- Assist the CFO in developing and maintaining a framework of performance and risk management including the HBLB three-year business plan.
- Manage and control the framework of bank accounts including assisting the CFO in decision-making on all treasury matters.
- Lead on the maintenance of an accurate, rolling, three-year forward look financial model.
- Assist the CFO and Chief Executive with all Board papers as required
- Lead the process for opening and running HBLB Loan windows for applications as to timing and affordability including convening the Investment Committee.
- Lead the relationship with the National Audit Office (external auditors), coordinating all visits and enquiries, liaising with the NAO throughout the year to effectively plan necessary activity and the annual audit. Anticipate or proactively address issues as they arise.
- Coordinate the issuing of new Levy Guidance Notes and annual Levy Assessments, including reviewing the Levy paperwork to match any statutory updates and making changes.
- Assure the monthly payroll process and act as the business continuity process manager for the preparation of payroll and pension submissions in case of the FM being unavailable.
The successful candidate will have:
- You must be ACCA, CIMA or ACA fully qualified with at least three years’ PQE.
- You will have led a team or teams during your career
- You will have experience of managing budgets and forecasts, dealing with external stakeholders (such as internal and external audit), and have been involved in risk management and performance management.
- Practical experience of IFRS accounting standards and ideally public sector Annual Accounts and Report production.
- Ideally you will have experience of working in both the private sector and public sector.
