Accounts Manager

2 days per week

£23-£25,000 (pro rata) Based: Hornchurch, Essex

The Organisation

WaveLength is an 80-year-old national charity dedicated to relieving loneliness and isolation through the provision of media technology.  We give TVs, radios, tablet computers and other equipment to lonely and isolated individuals living in poverty, both directly and through working with partner organisations.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive the Accounts Manager has responsibility for delivering an effective and sustainable financial framework for the organisation.  This will include liaising with the Auditors, maintaining full accounting records, processing payments, receipts and donations, and producing budgets and Balance Sheets.

Key Tasks

  • Produce Accounts, Balance Sheets, Budgets and Forecasts as requested;
  • Maintain control over income and expenditure via budgets and business planning;
  • Post Income & Expenditure on Sage 50;
  • Weekly Bank Reconciliation;
  • Process Accounts payable, and keep track of travel and other expenses;
  • Produce accounts and information for Board papers;
  • Produce quarterly and end of year final accounts for approval; and liaising with auditors;
  • Liaise with payroll providers including oversight of pension arrangements;
  • Track legacies, income, and donations;
  • Record share portfolio losses and gains;
  • Preparation of Tax payments and claims, including Gift Aid
  • Liaise with and review suppliers;
  • Help with general office duties such as answering the phone and dealing with enquiries.

Key Skills

  • Accountancy Qualification or certificate;
  • Experience with charity accounts, including Tax;
  • Good working knowledge of Sage 50 and the ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and preferably Access or FileMaker;
  • Must be prepared to work flexibly as part of a team, sharing responsibility for routine tasks.
