Role Summary
This position provides key support for the policy and research functions of the charity, in addition to collaborating on campaigns and public affairs work. You will be responsible for carrying out primary research relevant to the charity’s policy and research functions. You’ll be monitoring and collating new policy and research materials and contributing to public communications including report-writing, blog posts and social media activity. You’ll be providing input into strategic planning regarding policy and research activities. You’ll connect with researchers and policy people from other charities and from universities. Finally, you’ll be attending conferences and meetings on behalf of the charity.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Policy

Support the P&RM, DR&PA and CEO in responding to public consultations, advising policymakers and working with national policy and research bodies as appropriate.

Represent the charity in meetings with policy partners where appropriate.

Attend policy and research conferences on behalf of the charity, providing feedback to the team on key learning and opportunities that arise.

Work with the SC&PA and DR&PA to draw up influencing strategies to target key stakeholders on policy priorities.

Monitor external research that helps our policy work and opportunities for collaboration.

Work with the SC&PA to engage campaigners in our policy work.
Research

Work with the P&RM to carry out research activities relevant to the policy and research functions of the charity; including collating and analysing data, and co-authoring reports for both internal and public purposes.

Work with the P&RM and the Communications and Marketing teams to produce engaging and accessible communication of research findings for a range of audiences.

Monitor and collate new policy and research materials, including research reports, policy documents and media activity. Work with the P&RM to produce internal reports where appropriate and to ensure the charity’s activities reflect and respond to the wider policy and research environment.

Work with the P&RM on external research projects funded by the charity, including support with assessing the quality of bids by external researchers.
Across both areas

Produce social media communications where relevant to policy and research. Work with colleagues across the Research and Public Affairs and Communications and Marketing teams to develop strategies for maximising impact, especially in digital communications.

Contribute to strategic planning by contributing to staff meetings, producing supporting materials and providing feedback on public affairs.

RSTMH is a charity and membership society for those working or interested in tropical medicine and global health, and currently have almost 1,800 members from more than 90 countries, with a network of more than 10,000 involved with our work in some way. We are looking for an experienced Membership Manager who will help us manage all aspects of our membership programme. This involves maintaining high levels of retention and developing and delivering new recruitment strategies for members across the world.
The role will also focus on developing membership journey programmes to ensure our members receive top quality service from the Society and that all membership processes are undertaken with efficiency, energy and effectiveness.
The Membership Manager will also play a crucial role in ensuring that we are promoting RSTMH, and its membership offer, to our members and supporters. This person would be the first point of contact for our members and so must be professional, a sound communicator and efficient.
Part of this role involves creating policies and processes to ensure members feel valued at each stage of their journey with RSTMH, developing new marketing products and materials for recruiting and retaining members where necessary.
The successful applicant will have Membership management experience within a relevant charity or learned society setting and will relish the opportunity to take on a new challenge, working on their own initiative for much of the time.
The role
- To lead on developing and implementing current strategies to increase members of RSTMH, including monitoring and evaluating performance against plans and KPIs
- To analyse, identify and develop plans to optimize member journeys
- Manage enquiries from current/prospective members in a professional, timely manner, to agreed service targets
- To cultivate strong relationships with members and understand their specific needs so that RSTMH can support them most effectively via targeted communications
- Establish and maintain systems to report and evaluate RSTMH’s membership retention and recruitment success
- Deliver reports to keep the team, CEO and Board up to date with progress on membership activities and strategy

- To be a member of the International Members Committee and help utilize the group to support membership goals

- Establish systems that monitor updates within the membership effectively and ensure that they are communicated to the CEO and Board of Trustees regularly

Person specification
- At least 3 years' experience of working in a membership role, with experience of recruitment and retention campaigns
- Experience of working in a learned society or membership organization
- Working in international development or global health is desirable
- Passion and commitment to the work of the Society
- Experience of developing and delivering successful membership programmes, that have increased recruitment and demonstrably reduced attrition
- Experience of account management of suppliers is desirable
- Experience of creating compelling messages to different audiences
- Highly organised, with ability to self-plan and prioritise workloads
- Ability to communicate technical details to non-technical people
- Experience of using social media in a professional capacity Knowledge of how to use and optimize a CRM system for membership retention and recruitment

The role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a lively, dynamic and driven fundraising events team. Over the last decade, Breast Cancer Now has built up a strong events function, with community and events currently accounting for nearly a quarter of the charity’s overall voluntary income.
We are now looking for an experienced and passionate events manager to lead a team and help us to continue to deliver our targets and identify new opportunities for our challenge events portfolio. This currently comprises of running events, triathlons, cycling events, overseas and UK challenges. You’ll support the creation and delivery of the events strategy, developing a varied and impactful portfolio which positions Breast Cancer Now as the go-to charity for events.
With the support of the senior events manager, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the Great North Run and Women V Cancer partnership. The post holder will also have their own budget areas working to agreed targets, maximising income, and minimising expenditure through innovative stewardship and strong budget management to maintain engagement and retention of supporters. They will also have line management (not all direct) for 1 event officer, 1 event executive and 1 event assistant.
About you
We’re looking for someone with experience of successfully delivering events programmes, including recruitment of participants, development of supporter journeys and stewardship communications to meet net income and supporter retention targets.
You’ll be an excellent relationship builder, with knowledge of the charity events sector. You’ll be an experienced line manager able to develop your line reports. You’ll also have demonstrable knowledge of setting and meeting financial targets to ensure a good return of investment for the charity.
As well as leading a high performing team we are looking for someone with experience of successfully delivering marketing and recruitment plans, developing supporter journeys and stewardship communications. You’ll be experienced in delivering charity events and possess outstanding organisational, communication and marketing skills. You’ll need to have built excellent relationships with third party event organisers, tour operators and suppliers to the overall benefit of your organisation.

The Charity
The Youth Adventure Trust is a youth development charity working with vulnerable young people aged 11 to 16 years old from Wiltshire and Swindon. Our outdoor activity based YAT Adventure Programme enables young people to challenge themselves, experience success, learn to go beyond their own expectations and grow in confidence. Through a series of residential camps and day activities they are able to build resilience, self esteem and develop social and life skills. The YAT Resilience Programme works to the same outcomes through a year long programme of monthly activities, home-based challenges and reflective practice. Our Mentoring Programme works with those young people in need of some additional individualised support at the end of our other programmes. The Trust’s Bursary Programme is open to all those young people who have completed an initial programme, in order to assist their next steps into further activities. Our aim is to make a lasting improvement to the lives of vulnerable young people. All our services are provided completely free of charge to the young people who are nominated by schools and other youth organisations to take part.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and motivated Adventure Programme Support Manager to support both young people and volunteers on our Adventure Programme. Working alongside the Programme Managers you will act in a support function across the activity days and camps, and be involved in direct one to one support for young people. You will also work alongside the Volunteering Lead to recruit, manage and support the volunteers who are front and centre of ensuring our young people’s positive experiences and outcomes. This is a diverse role with the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people both through direct work and supporting the wider team.
Programme Support
This aspect of the role includes;

Attending residential camps and activity days throughout the year, assisting with organising and delivering the Adventure Programme.

Ensuring the highest standards of support, safety and safeguarding across the programme and all aspects of the Youth Adventure Trust’s work.

Carrying out direct work with young people to help support their needs and fulfil the Youth Adventure Trust’s aims.

Supporting work with the young people’s families to promote full attendance, effective participation and ensure they have all the information they require.

Supporting work with our referral partners to ensure they have an excellent understanding, relationship and experience with the Youth Adventure Trust.

Contributing to ongoing feedback to young people, parents, carers and schools.

Supporting the effective monitoring of the programme and measurement of young people’s developmental outcomes.

Working with the Programme Managers to support young people moving on to the Mentoring Programme, and promoting take up of the Bursary Programme.

Supporting the development of further opportunities for young people both during and after their YAT journey.

Assisting the day-to-day administration and management of the programme. This may include maintaining a database, producing written communications and reports, information leaflets, website updates, budget monitoring, booking and negotiating with providers, and an array of detailed record keeping.

Creating website and social media content to highlight and promote YAT’s work.
Volunteer Management
Volunteers are critical to the success of our programme for vulnerable young people; recruiting, supporting and developing capable, skilled, empathetic, engaging and committed volunteers is essential to the impact of our work.
This aspect of the role includes;

Promoting volunteering opportunities and recruiting new volunteers to the organisation to ensure needs are met.

Acting as a key point of contact for volunteers, maintaining communication and engagement with the charity.

Administering all aspects of a volunteer’s involvement with the Trust, including completing the relevant checks and references, record keeping and database maintenance.

Organising, preparing and information sharing with volunteers to ensure they are ready to fulfil their role.

Supporting volunteers in their role on our Adventure Programme, facilitating opportunities for informal supervision and debriefing. Our volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the young people get as much as possible from their time with the Youth Adventure Trust, and often deal with challenging and impactful situations.

Developing and coaching volunteers in their role through working alongside them as they support young people on our Adventure Programme residential camps and day activities.

Creating and delivering training opportunities for new and existing volunteers.

Creating website, newsletter and social media content to promote volunteering and engagement with the charity.

Supporting our Volunteer Committee in their functions which include organising awareness raising and social events.

Developing opportunities for a diverse portfolio of volunteering roles within the organisation.

Supporting the fundraising team through providing feedback, reports or event support.
Across the role you will;

Be involved in sector networking and awareness raising on behalf of the Trust.

Act as an ambassador for the Youth Adventure Trust at all times.
The post is subject to a six months’ probationary period.
The Candidate
To be up to the challenge you’ll need an excellent understanding and a proven track record of relevant experience working with vulnerable and challenging young people. You’ll need demonstrable skills at building effective relationships with young people, parents/carers, and professional organisations. In addition, you’ll need an excellent understanding of volunteering and relevant experience working with and managing volunteers. You’ll need strong influencing and motivational skills; the capacity to get the best out of people and confidently deal with issues. You’ll be an excellent communicator, planner and problem solver, a strong team player and an exemplary role model.
