About London Transport Museum

About the role

As Development Executive you will work within the Museum’s Fundraising team to proactively cultivate a range of funding relationships, delivering a high level of service and maintaining the credibility of the Museum as an excellent organisation with which to partner.

You will be responsible for managing the delivery of events and projects including the Museum’s flagship industry fundraising dinner and Interchange: thought leadership programme. You will also support the delivery of the Corporate Membership programme, the Museum’s corporate sponsorships and provide support across a range of Museum projects and programmes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with the Marketing & Development team, the Museum Director, the Board and external consultants, advisers and advocates to achieve targets for income generation from Corporate Membership and sponsorship, trusts and foundations in support of capital campaigns, exhibitions, education and Museum public programme events
  • Research new funding prospects
  • Manage the delivery of Development team events including Interchange: thought leadership, the London Transport dinner and auction, Patrons Circle and exhibition private views, working with the Development team to identify opportunities to strengthen existing stakeholder and funder relationships
  • Maintain relationships with existing and potential funders, sponsors, members and stakeholders
  • Develop and produce a range of communications materials to support the delivery of the Development strategy
  • Maintain the departmental database
  • Regularly review and update the content of the Museum’s website and supporters screen to ensure messaging is consistent with brand and strategic objectives
  • Provide administrative support to a wide range of Development projects and initiatives

Key Stakeholders

  • Development Manager – to work closely with the Development Manager to prioritise workload and objectives, delivering work as directed
  • Partnerships Manager – to work closely with the Partnerships Manager on the delivery of the London Transport dinner and auction
  • Corporate Membership Development Manager – to work closely with the Corporate Membership Development Manager on the delivery of Interchange events and Membership support
  • Development team – to deliver the Development strategy
  • Managing Director, Senior Management Team, and Museum Board - to provide appropriate information on Members, stakeholders and supporters and other appropriate Development team activities as directed
  • Corporate Members, stakeholders and other supporters – assist, develop and manage relationships with a range of Museum Members, stakeholders and supporters
  • Development team – to leverage additional funding from existing supporters identifying new opportunities for support


  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of fundraising strategy and practice (Essential)
  • An understanding of how to research and approach potential incomes sources (Essential)
  • Good database management skills and working knowledge of at least one relevant database package (Essential)
  • An understanding of the design, print and production process (Essential)
  • Interest and knowledge of the transport, museums and heritage sectors and the issues affecting it (Desirable)


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Post holder must present themselves well in a range of situations, including one-to-one meetings with funders and stakeholders, in email communication and promotional copy writing (Essential)
  • Excellent relationship management skills (Essential)
  • Excellent administrative, planning and organisational skills (Essential)
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines (Essential)
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with strong editing and proofreading skills (Essential)
  • A flexible approach, able to adapt to a range of social and work situations (Essential)
  • Diplomatic and sensitive to the balance between a range of organisational objectives and priorities (Essential)
  • Committed to working with the team to meet income targets
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion, as the demands on the team require


  • Experience of working in a fundraising team and experience of contributing to the development of fundraising strategy (Essential)
  • Experience of building and managing relationships with a range of supporters (Essential)
  • Experience of supervising and influencing others for whom you do not have line management responsibility
  • Experience of event management and project delivery in a similar environment
  • Experience of providing administrative support to a team
