As the Major Gifts Fundraiser, you will play a pivotal role in developing and sustaining fundraising relationships, working closely with the Director of Development, Chief Executive and Senior Management Team. You will be an integral member of the Development Team and work across other teams, particularly the Communications and Policy Teams to maximise fundraising and engagement opportunities and to deliver a first-class giving experience to every major individual donor.
The JUSTICE team currently work in a hybrid manner. Staff members have access to office space in London, however, attendance is currently optional. Our staff enjoy flexible working conditions, 27 days annual leave, plus the week between Christmas and the New Year, 8% employer pension contribution and access to an Employee Assistance Programme.

As Major Gift Development Manager, you’ll:
- Manage a portfolio of existing major donors and prospects and ensure a first-class cultivation and stewardship journey with Dogs Trust to secure five and six figure gifts.
- Attend meetings with existing and new donors, developing bespoke, personalised written communications and proposals that fit with Dogs Trust’s brand.

ROLE
Stella Maris is growing as a charity, in terms of income generation and new programmes of activity around the world. To help support this development, we have created this new important role. The Fundraising & Communications team at Stella Maris comprises about 12 staff members (some full time; some part time). The team and the charity have now reached the point in their evolution where we need to appoint a Major Donor Manager. This post holder will offer excellent stewardship to our existing Major Donors. He/she will also help to identify and cultivate new potential Major Donors from within and outside our existing pool of individual donors. MAIN PURPOSE
The Major Donor Manager, reporting into the Director of Development and working with some guidance from the Head of Major Gifts, will maintain and grow a stable pipeline of income from Major Donors. He/she will secure unrestricted and restricted income from a portfolio of Major Donors to support the activities of the Stella Maris network in the UK and overseas. He/she will produce cultivation plans for individual Major Donors, meet them, craft tailored applications and reports for them.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Manage relationships with a portfolio of Major Donors in accordance with the Charities fundraising strategy and giving programme activity.
2 Establish individual donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship strategies, ensuring each prospect and existing donor has an appropriate communications and cultivation programme in place.
3 Ensure that donor profiling and research activity is undertaken on existing and potential Major Donors (within data protection regulation guidelines) in order to enhance and develop relations.
4 Identify potential Major Donors from within the Mid-Value Donor portfolio and help graduate them up to Major Donor giving levels.
5 Working with the Governance and Executive team, conduct meetings and visits with individual Major Donors around the UK.
6 Accompany Major Donors on port visits within the UK and possibly abroad.
7 Craft carefully tailored applications, thank you letters and reports for Major Donors.
8 Support other senior staff and stakeholders, such as Trustees, in cultivating relationships with Major Donors by providing research and other information as required, and bringing them to meetings with Major Donors when appropriate.
9 Build and cultivate relationships with intermediaries, e.g. wealth advisers, lawyers.
10 Arrange events for Major Donors.
11 Ensure that all activity is recorded accurately on the charity’s Customer Relationship Management database, and that actions are undertaken in a timely and professional manner.
12 Extract monthly reports on activity levels with Major Donors, e.g. number of contacts, meetings, asks, etc., and circulate this internally to selected senior staff members.

Education should be the means to break the link between demographics and destiny. Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.
By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.
The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.
The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.
Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. This is an exciting time for the trusts and case for support team at Sue Ryder. Following a highly successful year, the team has grown its pool of supporters and is now enlarging in size, ready to engage more trusts who can help us achieve our new organisational, five-year strategy. Building on an existing base of warm supporters, this new role will focus on raising additional grants in the region of £10,000 - £30,000 as well as helping refresh case for support materials for fundraising colleagues across Sue Ryder.
About you:
A passionate and proactive fundraiser, with experience of cultivating and securing gifts over £10,000 and the ability to create fruitful relationships in order to collect information and collate persuasive case for support briefs. You will have excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal skills and a talent for establishing rapport. You will relish connecting trust donors to brilliant projects that require funding and be motivated by the opportunity to make tailored fundraising approaches to them.
About the role:
This role plays an integral part in building and maintaining relationships both within Sue Ryder’s own service teams and a variety of external trust and foundation supporters, at all levels. It offers the role holder the chance to increase their knowledge and experience through working on a wide range of local and national fundraising propositions. With a new five-year Sue Ryder strategy in place, innovative services launching and supported by a friendly team, the role provides considerable scope for a fundraiser to develop in a successful and expanding national team.

We are seeking a brilliant major donor fundraiser to play a crucial role in generating funds from HNWIs through major gifts and legacies. As Senior Philanthropy Manager you will step into a newly created position in the team that will focus on creating and implementing a compelling major donor programme.
Your focus will be to inspire giving for investment in the Hall, including initiatives to improve accessibility and sustainability, as well as the Hall’s pioneering community engagement programme. You will be a creative, driven and strategic individual who has a track record of developing engaging supporter journeys and soliciting transformational gifts.
As Senior Philanthropy Manager you will:
- create and deliver the major donor strategy focused on driving growth and income from HNWIs;
- personally manage a portfolio of philanthropists giving 5, 6 and 7-figure gifts;
- oversee and develop the prospect pipeline, proactively researching potential supporters and utilising networks from senior stakeholders involved in the Hall;
- consistently deliver exceptional stewardship journeys, knowing how to capitalise on the incredible array of events at the Hall as powerful engagement tools;
- produce and present compelling cases for support to secure transformational restricted and unrestricted donations;
- provide leadership and support to the Philanthropy Coordinator;
- work closely with the rest of the Philanthropy team to identify and maximise the lifetime support of donors.
Ideal skills and experience:
- Demonstrable experience of managing and securing 5- and 6-figure+ gifts from HNWIs
- Proven track record of delivering a strong major donor strategy/programme
- Experience identifying major giving opportunities, building a pipeline and being proactive with prospect research
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders of all levels
- Line management experience, and keen interest in motivating and developing direct reports
- A creative flare, team player, proactive and ambitious
- Passion for the arts, sciences and the work of the Royal Albert Hall
Hybrid working, 3-4dpw in Royal Albert Hall, Kensington office. This role will require occasional evening and weekend work in line with the Hall’s events programme, in particular those attended by your donors and prospects.
