Medico Legal Team Leader

AvMA is currently recruiting for a Medico-Legal Team Leader. You will have line management responsibility for the day-to-day work carried out by medico-legal caseworkers specialising in inquest work, written casework and requests from solicitors for medico-legal experts from AvMA’s database. There are currently four medico-legal caseworkers (1 full time and 3 part time). This is a demanding role which would suit someone with a legal background and practical experience in clinical negligence litigation or a sound understanding of the legal principles as they relate to clinical negligence.

As well as line management responsibilities, the successful applicant will be expected to run their own caseload of inquest, written advice and information work and respond to requests for experts received from our Lawyer Service members. Caseloads will reflect the demands of line management and involvement in AvMA Panel work including junior certification scheme.

AvMA operates as a team and encourages staff to put forward and develop new ideas. Caseworkers in the Medico-Legal department are expected to make suggestions and become involved in the planning of the annual conference and other activities.

The work is varied with opportunities to consolidate and use existing skills and develop new ones.
