The Community Support Officer will manage the ‘Hear to Meet’ – hearing aid support services in North East Essex, as well as raising awareness of the NHS Accessible Information Standard to health professionals and people who are deaf or have hearing loss in the borough.
The Hear to Meet service provides practical hearing aid support and information for people who wear NHS hearing aids. Working with the other part-time Community Support Officer you will support existing hearing aid support sessions and set up new ones in the community where people drop-in. You will also provide support in sheltered accommodation and refer or provide home visits for people who are less mobile where needed.
The Community Support Officer will also raise awareness of the NHS Accessible Information Standard to health professionals and service users by delivering talks, attending events, participating in focus groups and distributing information through drop-ins.
Communication is a basic human need. Yet most of us know someone who struggles to communicate through hearing loss. It can cause substantial harm to friendships, family relationships, confidence, employability, mental health and life chances.
Action on Hearing Loss (formerly the RNID) is the UK’s largest charity for the 11 million people in the UK who confront deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss every day. Established in 1911, we help people to take control of their lives and live the life they choose, removing the barriers standing in their way. We give people support and care, develop technology and treatments, and campaign for equality.
