Job description

A confident, inspiring and ambitious Director needed to develop a rapidly growing radiotherapy charity into a hub of knowledge and expertise, connecting constituencies/stakeholders towards a common goal with clear outcomes.

Action Radiotherapy is the champion for improved radiotherapy services to cancer patients in the UK. We are a small charity with a big mission, to transform radiotherapy services with the potential to increase access to radiotherapy in the UK from the current 27% of cancer patients to the international standard of at least 53%, thus increasing survival in cancer patients. We campaign on behalf of patients to build a national network that optimises new technology and builds capacity.

Action Radiotherapy supports patients and front-line professionals. The charity also acts as the secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Radiotherapy and is running the high profile #Catchup With Cancer Campaign. The charity was founded by Professor Pat Price, a leading cancer expert at Imperial College in London with a lifelong mission to give patients the best cancer therapy, wherever they live. She also leads a medical advisory practice which gives her a unique perspective, where deep scientific knowledge meets patient care and treatment options.

Your role will be to develop the charity and support Professor Price in her mission to build a national radiotherapy strategy which will reduce inconsistencies and complexity, so that patients are able to avail of the most up to date technology and treatment options, nationwide. You will provide the leadership and infrastructure to create and maintain the charity, as the voice of the patient, connecting patients’ needs to policy development and service modernisation. The role involves building our capacity to improve public awareness of the benefits of modern radiotherapy, to lobby Government to invest in modernising the service, to equip healthcare organisations with the best technology and training in the world and to deliver the best outcomes for millions of cancer patients.

The successful applicant will have highly developed communication skills and be excited by the opportunity to work with a wide range of people, ranging from politicians to medical leaders, front line staff and patients, bringing them together in a joint ambition to save thousands of lives through a modern radiotherapy strategy and delivery model. The role is home working with a face-to-face meeting in Wilmslow or London (depending on your location) once a quarter – to start as soon as possible.
